The Official Newsletter of the Musik -Stadt
Region Porsche Car Club of America
Message from our President For those of you who did not attend the 30th Anniversary Banquet, you missed the biggest and best one ever! We had 107 members and guests who filled up the banquet room at Brentwood Country Club. We had Porsche Platz (separate parking lot for Porsche’s) and two brand new 991 911’s out front to envy over. We had soothing guitar music before and during dinner, excellent food and service, and Domenic Calkins, our Regional PCNA Manager, to enlighten us on the new PCNA customer service center and PCNA HQ in Atlanta. After a number of awards, we passed out LOTS of door prizes! I would like to give a special thanks to all of our sponsors who provided our door prizes, especially EJ Sain for that beautiful watch. All in all, I believe everyone had a great time and hope we can exceed your expectations next year. At the banquet, we recognized our 30 year charter members present with special plaques recognizing them for chartering our region. We also recognized Robert Hartman, General Manager of Porsche of Nashville, with a special plaque for their continued support to our club and its members. Robert and his team run an excellent dealership and we are fortunate to have them in Nashville. We also recognized Rick Arnemann for Enthusiast of the Year for his attendance and support at more club events than any other non-board member. Finally, I recognized our Musik-Stadt leadership team with leadership awards for their ongoing support to our club. Vic, Mike, Bill, Gina, Kent, Dan and our newest members, Rick Arnemann and Brent Knolls will manage our 2012 activities. We have an excellent team who work hard to keep you informed on events in town and the and the southeast, as well as planning our meetings and tours. I can’t say enough about Robert Hartman and his Porsche of Nashville team.
Not only did they attend our banquet in style in new 2012 911’s (991) but also parked them out front so we could check them out. You can check them out again at the dealership on February 9th from 6 – 8pm during their official launch. They are taking orders for new 911’s for 2nd half of this year so sales are brisk. They are not only gorgeous but an engineering marvel. Lots of changes, some more obvious than others. Our next meeting with be at the Lane Motor Museum on MONDAY, February 13th. We didn’t have the nerve to schedule a club meeting on Valentine’s Day! Cost will be $5 to cover the room rental and the club will provide BBQ again. Dan Martin has lots of events planned for this year so please come out and join us. Check our calendar for club meetings, DE’s and other fun stuff. If you haven’t tried a DE yet, you don’t know what you are missing. Many of us will be at Barber on March 3-4 so come join us and see what the excitement is all about.
Hope to see you at our next meeting at the Lane Motor Museum on February 13, 2012.

991 Reveal at
Porsche of Nashville RSVP to [email protected]
Musik-Stadt Region was organized as a result of a chance meeting between Chuck Elderd and John Hudson at a gas station in Brentwood in 1981. At that time, John was driving a 1973 911T with a Jim Watson engine and Chuck had a 1974 turbo-look 911. Both agreed Nashville needed it own PCA region so they decided to work together to make it happen. Chuck handled the publicity and John took care of the administrative duties. With their work and Vaughn Motor Company/Porsche dealer’s help, they held their first organizational meeting at the old Nashville City Bank downtown and tried to select a name for the new region. After discounting Music City USA, Cumberland, Harpeth River, and Volunteer State, they chose Musik Stadt. They held a number of events including a concourse at Bell Meade Mansion and auto-crossing at MTSU. After gathering enough money for expenses, they completed the process and got their charter in November 1982. Pictured above is Len Turner, PCA Zone 3 representative presenting the charter to Chuck and John. Also pictured above are David Bloodworth, Andrew Heath, Mike Gillespie, John Hudson, Jud Scott, David Scott and Robert Sharp with recognition awards presented at our recent banquet. Not pictured who could not attend are Ray May, Ralph McCracken and Brian Bell. Thanks to all these guys and the original 55 who made Musik Stadt a reality.

Musik Stadt Region welcomed PCA members
and industry guests to celebrate its 30th
anniversary at the Brentwood Country Club on
January 28. Region president Mike Moody
played host to the best attended annual
banquet in region history where 107 members
and guests enjoyed an evening filled with
special awards, music, a wonderful dinner,
cocktails, fantastic door prizes and Porsche
conversation.
Altogether, a perfect evening.
Awards were presented in
appreciation to current region board
members and founding Charter
members of Musik Stadt. Nashville
Porsche received a special award in
appreciation for its tremendous
support of our region not only for this
banquet but throughout the year. Rick
Arnemann received special recognition
winning the award for being Musik
Stadt’s Porsche Enthusiast of the Year
for 2011. Congratulations Rick!

This year proved to be a special year for Musik
Stadt’s banquet with nearly one-third of the
banquet-goers receiving a door prize. There were
over 35 door prizes donated by local business in
support of our club. Prizes included dinners
donated by local restaurants, framed photos from
Rennsport, golf for four from Brentwood Country
Club, tire mounting and balancing services,
custom artwork, gourmet wines and a Swiss
watch valued at $2,500. Say you’re ready to RSVP
for next year’s banquet now?
A number of special guests were also in
attendance. Charter members attending the
banquet included John Hudson, Jud Scott,
Andrew Heath, David Smith, Mike Gillespie, David
Bloodworth and Robert Sharp. Charter members
unable to attend was Ralph McCracken, Ray May
and Brian Bell. All were recognized for their
invaluable contribution to founding Musik Stadt.
The keynote address and a Q&A session was
delivered by Domenic Calkins, Regional Manager
Area South for PCNA. Thanks to Domenic for a
very informative presentation. Local dealership
Nashville Porsche was also well represented by
its Porsche staff and received a rousing thank
you from the membership. The Nashville Porsche
staff also received special kudos for bringing two
unexpected special guests to the party. Two
brand new 991 Carrera S Porsches! Those two
400 bhp flat sixes revving in the parking lot drew
quite a crowd when dinner was over. It was like
a second dessert. On wheels no less!

What does 993, 996 and 991 mean? Aren’t they all 911’s? By Bill Wright
Page | 13
Page | 2
The Porsche 911 has been in production since Sept. 1964 (as a 1965 model
year). It stands to reason that there have been some significant changes
through the years and a 1965 911 is not going to be the same car as a
2012 vehicle. Even though all the cars have a model designation of 911, in
1990 Porsche used the term “Type” to designate the major changes to the
911 model.
I’m not going to go into all the variations of “S”, Turbo and GT models, I’m
just going to concentrate on the base 911 (Carrera).
Also please don’t take this as gospel, this is only intended to give you an
idea what we’re talking about when we refer to a 964, 993, 996 or a 997 in
conversation. Over 47 years there have been many changes to the 911 and
many books have been written about them, I’m not trying to write one
here.
1965 – 1977 : Pretty much just known by their model designations, 911T, E & S
Engine size started as 2.0L and increased to 2.2L, 2.7L and 3.0L
1978 – 1983 : Mostly known as the “SC” (Super Carrera) cars Engine size is 3.0L
1984 – 1986 : Mostly known as simply “Carreras”. Also known by the engine
(3.2L) and sometimes even the transmission (Type 915)
1987 – 1989 : Again known as the “Carrera” and the engine (3.2L) but now the
transmission is (Type G50)
1990 – 1993 : First use of the “Type” designation for car series, these were 964’s.
Engine size is 3.6L
1995 - 1998 : These are 993’s, started in 1994 but in the US as 1995 models.
Engine size 3.6L Also known as “last of the air cooled cars”.
The 993’s are the best 911’s produced
(Care to guess what I drive?)
1999 – 2004 : These are the 996’s. The biggest change is the engine is now water
cooled. Engine size is 3.4L increasing to 3.6L
2005 – 2011 : These are the 997’s. The return to round headlights. Engine size is
3.6L
2012 - ?: These are the new 991’s just now being introduced. (I’m not sure
they’re 2012’s) Base engine is 3.4L
100,000TH LATEST GEN CAYENNE ROLLS OFF PRODUCTION LINE
The
100,000th second generation Cayenne was assembled in Leipzig today. At the same time, this
production anniversary is the curtain raiser for an eventful anniversary year at Porsche’s Saxony
site. “Ten years ago the success story of Porsche Leipzig startet. What was a greenfield site, today
ranks among the most modern car plants in the world. In addition to the Cayenne, Leipzig is also
where Porsche produces the very successful Panamera luxury saloon, approximately 70,000 units of
which have now rolled off the production line. That is why more than 93,800 vehicles left the Porsche
plant in Leipzig in 2011, more than in any year before”, says Wolfgang Leimgruber, Member of the
Executive Board of Production and Logistics of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG.
Page | 14
The 100,000th Cayenne is being made ready this very day for shipping to Brazil, where the SUV in
“pure white” with a V8 engine will be handed over to its new owner. The Cayenne is being sold in
more than 124 markets in currently five model variants spanning a power range from 180 kW (245
hp) to 368 kW (500 hp) and an average fuel consumption ranging from 7.2 to 11.5 litres per 100
kilometres. The second generation of the Cayenne has been produced in Leipzig since 2009 with
the sports car manufacturer delivering over 360.00 units of the first generation to customers since
2002.
“Because of the consistently high demand for the Cayenne and Panamera we will be introducing a
third production shift in Leipzig at the end of January. With the new production sequence, 500
vehicles on average will be produced each day,” Leimgruber adds. The introduction of a three shift
operation is only one of many challenges in the near future. Building work for a major expansion of
the plant is currently underway. A paint shop and body assembly line for an entirely new model line
that will start to come off the Leipzig production line from the end of 2013 onward are among the
facilities being built on a 17 hectare site. Porsche is investing a total of 500 million euro in the
production site in Saxony for assembly of the Cajun, creating more than 1,000 new jobs.
Siegfried Bülow, President and Chief Executive Officer, explains: “2012 will therefore be an eventful
and exciting year in many respects. We are welcoming many new employees, holding topping-out
ceremonies on the new site, celebrating the 500,000th Porsche “Made in Leipzig” and last but not
least the tenth production anniversary.”

2013 BOXSTER UNVEILED:
FIRST OFFICIAL PHOTOS
The new Boxster generation – the mid-engine roadster from Porsche
Never before in the history of the Porsche Boxster was a change of generation so comprehensive.
The open-top two-seater car is being marketed with a completely new lightweight body and a
completely revamped chassis. Considerably lower weight, longer wheelbase, a wider track and
larger wheels significantly enhance yet further the mid-engine sports car’s driving dynamics, already
Page | 16
far and away the best in its class, supported by the new electro-mechanical power steering. The new
Boxsters boast superior performance and are also up to 15 per cent more fuel-efficient. Depending
on model, they get by with significantly less than eight litres of fuel per 100 kilometres.
The new Boxster thus delivers what the fundamentally changed styling with shorter overhangs,
significantly forward-shifted windscreen, flatter silhouette and expressive edges promises. The
passengers are enclosed by the completely redesigned, fully electric hood, which now dispenses
with a convertible top compartment lid. The interior concept offers the occupants more space and
reflects the new Porsche outline with the raked centre console, which, originating with the Carrera
GT, ensures further improved ergonomics in all models.
Page | 17
The new sports car generation makes its debut in the classic Porsche pairing of Boxster and Boxster
S. Both models are powered by flat-six engines with direct petrol injection, the efficiency of which is
further enhanced by electrical system recuperation, thermal management and start/stop function.
The base model’s new power unit delivers 265 hp (195 kW) from a 2.7 litre displacement – ten hp
more than its larger displacement predecessor. Technically, it is now based on the 3.4-litre engine of
the Boxster S. This now delivers 315 hp (232 kW), which is five hp more than before. Both models
feature a manual six-speed gearbox as standard with the seven-speed Porsche
Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) available as an option. Both sports cars achieve their best fuel
consumption and acceleration performance with the PDK. The Porsche Boxster’s fuel consumption
with PDK is 7.7 l/100 km and 8.0 l/100 km for the Boxster S. With gear changes without interruption
to the power flow, the Boxster sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, the Boxster S in 5.0
seconds.
To enhance driving dynamics yet further, Porsche offers the Sport Chrono Package as an optional
extra for the Boxster, featuring dynamic transmission mounts for the first time. Also new in the
Boxster is Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with mechanical rear axle differential lock.
The market launch of the new Boxster generation will be on 4.14.2012. Source: Porsche

PORSCHE REVEALS MORE DETAILS
ON 918 PRODUCTION VERSION
Porsche has recently revealed a handful of new details on the upcoming
production version of the 918, which it published in its own in-house magazine,
Christophorus.
Porsche says it will use a modified version of the new LMP MR6 4.6 liter V8 engine adapted for use
in the production 918. Initially, the 918 concept featured a 3.4 liter gas engine, and has increased the
displacement to 4.6 liters.
Only a few details of the new engine have been revealed, however to quote: “The 918 Spyder V8
will feature a central injector mounted directly adjacent to the spark plug, a central oil feed to the
crankshaft, a variable-pressure composite oil pump and scavenge pump, forged lightweight pistons
Page | 2
Page | 19
from a Formula 1 supplier, a very high compression ratio, and variable valve timing with intake and
exhaust phase stepper motors.”
It’s no surprise that power figures for the new engine have not been announced, although reports
point to around 550HP from the V8, along with the hybrid’s electric motors that should add a further
225HP.
The production 918 Spyder supercar is planned to makes its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt
Motor Show.
