Our philosophyWhether you’re aiming to increase the efficiency of bakery operations, to improve hygiene, to increase the quality and quality consistency or the nutritional value of baked goods, Teflon™ branded coatings make a significant contribution. We have been actively involved in the global industrial bakeware market for more than 30 years as a developer and producer of fluoropolymer-based coating systems. During this time, we have gained a deep knowledge and understanding of the needs of bakery professionals. We are using this to continuously develop new and cutting edge solutions.

For instance, in 2018, we are launching a new range of primers made without the addition of NMP (n-Methyl Pyrrolidone) that at the same time brings an improvement in corrosion resistance.

Our offering to the industrial bakeware industryWe offer high quality coatings, applied through a network of qualified coaters for trays and moulds of carbon steel, aluminium, aluminized steel and stainless steel. The applied coatings offer excellent resistance to bread ingredients during continuous baking cycles, combined with reliable de-panning.

The sustainable performance of our offering is a major contributor to longer lasting tray or mould service life-spans, an increased bakery productivity and the elimination of oil, greases and other secondary release agents. Product appearance is enhanced and bakeries operate with lower maintenance and cleaning costs.

Our fully integrated production facilitiesChemours is producing both the fluoropolymers that are the active ingredients in nonstick coatings AND the coatings themselves. This gives us the advantage of being able to work on the backbone of our coatings and to control the entire production process from key ingredients to formulated product. Quality control and quality assurance along the value chain are the key operating principles. Customers appreciate the reliable batch-to-batch consistent deliveries from all our production facilities.

The Teflon™ nonstick coating programmeWhether you service customers in the Americas, Asia or Europe, you will find us globally active with the same product standards. Our coatings are categorised into four groups for:

Flat trays or trays with small indentations, such as croissants and bun trays

Deep-drawn moulds for, e.g., sandwich bread

Perforated, flat or corrugated trays, such as baguette trays

Special products, such as pretzel moulds, pizza trays, etc.

In-house made fluoropolymers and selected reinforcements are used to formulate products tailored to perform well under the specific conditions of each baking process. Examples of this in our product line are coatings aimed at the baguette production process, where a high abrasion resistance is required, and coatings with higher temperature resistance designed to cope with increased throughputs at higher baking temperatures.

New PFA formulationsbetter processing, better performing, more sustainable

NEW PFA powders Improved application properties and reduced processing time

The two new PFA powders, 532G-7411 and 532G-9410, result in a smoother coating compared to the incumbent 532G-7410. Even after 15 minutes of baking, the roughness of both new coatings is less than 532G-7410 after 45 minutes. This means that the application time can be significantly shortened.

Fig. 1 Roughness comparison at various curing times.

In order to help you select the right product for your needs, please see Fig. 2. In this table, a comparison of the processability and key coating properties is given.

NEW PFA powder primer A step forward in sustainability and efficiency

The new PFA powder primer, 532G-42331 (black), has been designed as an alternative to liquid-based primers. It is compatible for use in combination with PFA- and FEP-based mid- and topcoats. With zero Volatile Organic Compounds, this primer has a smaller footprint compared to liquid-based primers, and high application yields can be achieved. The primer can be applied and cured at a DFT of 80 micron in one single step, making the application an efficient process. During the design phase, the product has been successfully used and tested in an industrial bakery for over 12 months. The product can be used on all substrates; for stainless steel, we recommend a light grit-blast prior to application.

NEW PFA topcoat Featuring significantly improved permeation resistanceAqueous PFA 858G-112 is an addition to our liquid PFA product range designed to have both an improved abrasion and permeation resistance. This makes the applied coating better suited to be in contact with frozen dough. 858G-110 remains an excellent option for moulds in contact with non-frozen dough.

In Fig. 3, we can see the improvement in permeation resistance offered by 858G-112 and in Fig. 4, we demonstrate that an equal level of abrasion is reached after many more cycles when an 858G-112 topcoat is applied versus the standard 858G-110.

Fig. 3 Visual demonstration of improvement in permeation resistance when exposed to a standard hydrochloric acid solution.

Fig. 4 Visual demonstration of abrasion resistance.

NEW PFA midcoat Highest permeation resistance in the rangeRuby Red 858G-116 is a reinforced midcoat using PFA as an active ingredient. It provides the best permeation resistance in combination with a primer and topcoat, making it an essential component of a system used to coat pretzel moulds, for example. In Fig. 5, we have compared the permeation resistance of a non-reinforced PFA midcoat versus Ruby Red. The system containing the unfilled PFA shows blisters and fails after as little as two weeks, whereas the Ruby Red-containing system still performs well after an astonishing two years.

Teflon™ always leading introducing special solutions

NEW Water-based NMP-free primers Improved corrosion resistanceWe are introducing a water-based NMP-free primer in black and green colour, 459G-643 (black) and 459G-644 (green), respectively. These two primers are compatible with PTFE-, PFA- and FEP-based mid-and topcoat. Both products have shown an improvement in corrosion resistance versus the incumbent NMP-based 420G-713 coating. In Fig. 6, it is demonstrated that the 459G-643 primer when combined with both an FEP-based mid/topcoat and a PFA-based mid/topcoat yields an enhanced protection against corrosion when exposed to a standard hydrochloric acid solution.

NEW Solvent-based NMP-free primers State-of-the-art formulationThe 470G-713 (black) and 470G-714 (green) products are great additions to our product line, offering the same performance as the incumbent 420G-713 primer.

NEW Solvent-based pre-primer Improved corrosion resistance When applying coatings on carbon steel substrates or when re-coating moulds that are not in optimal condition, the new pre-primer 457-310 provides additional corrosion resistance.

NEW FEP topcoat Superior release propertiesIn response to market needs for equipment that operates longer at high efficiency, our researchers have developed a revolutionary new product. The product 856G-420 is based on a newly designed FEP polymer.

The smoothness and low porosity are the main factors creating the excellent release properties once applied.Like the 856G-40X products, 856G-420 is a high-build FEP, making processing easier and more robust versus existing products. The customers that have tested samples during the development phase have all reacted enthusiastically.

NEW FEP midcoat Lower processing timeThis additional product 856G-404 has been designed so that more DFT per spray-on application can be applied (30 to 40 micron per spray), leading to less layers, and, thus, a more efficient application process. The performance is the same as the incumbent 856G-3XX when applied at the same DFT.
