With a lean technical organi-zation, the customer turned to DNV to write the outlinespecification and draw theoutline Ga for a multi purposeship. in addition DNV offered a contract cost estimate,

shipyard assessment, bid evaluation and finally assis-tance in technical, legal and commercial negotiations with the yard and its subsuppliers. in the aftermath of contractsigning, DNV has been provid-

ing assistance to the customerregarding interpretations ontechnical and legal matters.DNV engaged a diversifiedproject team of naval archi-tects, engineers, electriciansand ship officers for the

During the development phase of a pipe layer vessel new-building, the customer needed advice on issues not covered by classification including design, capabilities and capac-ities, the stinger arrangement and the stinger strength.

DNV utilized its competence and experience on pipe layer ships and its systems and guidelines for drawing appraisal, specification review and verification work.

brm maritime evaluated the ship's design, arrangement and equipment against the building specification looking at functionality, maintainabil-ity and best practice, assuring that the customer's newbuild-ing was fit for purpose.

the stinger strength verifica-tion was carried out according to the customer's require-ments and DNV's recom-mended standards.

appraisal according to SOLaS 2010, required repairs and refurbishment, and life exten-sion prediction. the work consisted of a desktop study and an onboard assessment.
