Fifty Years! How we have changed! How we have matured! We are indeed golden. Our history is important, but our future is more important. It is time to engage younger generations in our membership. Right now in our country there is a “Me Too” revolution. However, “Me Too” isn’t just a plea for inclusion, equality, and personal safety. It also implies that women be participants equally in all facets of our society, in all conversations about issues, in all political and social actions. We must listen well, be informed, understand our own biases, develop logical positions, and then speak up. And we must use our experience, our knowledge, and our wisdom to engage the next generation and the one after that. We need to remember the women on whose shoulders we stand, who built our roads and bridges so that our journey will be easier than theirs. Then, of course, we must clear paths for those who hopefully will stand on our shoulders in the future.

Break These Chains Live Free Art Contest The theme, Human Trafficking - The Ugly Truth, reflects, through art, the dehumanizing of one’s body and soul. The panel of judges narrowed down, from 53 entries, the top choices in each category (Category 1: ages 14-15 and Category 2: ages 16-18). Final voting took place on Break These Chains Live Free Facebook page. The contest finalists become part of a traveling exhibit. Currently, last year’s art exhibit is
finishing up its traveling exhibit in Carson City .
WOW Moments!
. Wow, after weeks in a monster neck brace 24/7, Kim has graduated to part time use. Its been 7 weeks since surgery and she returns to work on Thursday. What a long road to recovery, A huge shout out to SIGLV for the very successful Sweet Fantasy event held at the beautiful Hard Rock on the Strip. And a super shout out to Teens Helping Teens who brought 30 volunteers to help with everything from parking directions, to raffle donations and tickets, to
helping guests. They were awesome! The Sad news is the loss of Kim’s and everyone’s favorite Pup, Gigi. She had a full and happy life. Sad.

How Mentoring Transforms Teens Lives
The BENEFITS: For both the mentor and mentee,
mentoring establishes a positive and close-knit relationship
that provides benefits to both parties.
For the mentee, it’s a chance to learn valuable knowledge,
develop strategies for overcoming challenges and learn the
confidence to ask for help. Mentoring programs are especially
fundamental for teenagers who frequently face educational
challenges, uncertainty about their futures, peer pressure and
questions around self-worth. Having a mentor in these
situations gives teens an alternate perspective and a source of
wisdom and reassurance.
Other long-term benefits of being mentored include:
healthier lifestyle choices
improvements in academic achievement
increased self confidence and self esteem
better behavior
more secure relationships with adults
optimism about their own abilities
Mentoring offers benefits for the mentors as well. It’s an
opportunity to share their experience and advice, develop their
interpersonal skills, and build up their confidence in advising
others. Mentoring also provides a high sense of fulfillment from
making a positive difference in someone’s life.
Components of Mentorship
Youth mentorship contains four main components. The first component is imparting decision-making skills. The mentor aids the mentee in making decisions by providing new strategies and advice that the mentee is unaware of as a result of having less experience of the world. The second component of mentoring is the establishment of positive, trust-based relationships. The mentor is thinking in the best interests of the mentee, and the mentee trusts the mentor to share their current challenges. The third, poignant element is comprehending and building upon individual strengths in order to put them to better use in the mentee’s life. The final element of mentoring is the development of life and social skills, whereby the better outcomes based on improved concepts instill a sense of confidence. This builds more secure foundations for the mentee’s life and their future. As someone that has had experience of mentoring, I have to
say that it is one of the most rewarding things I have done. I
was involved in a yearlong peer-mentoring scheme at school,
which involved mentoring a younger student in academics and
school life. Throughout the duration of the year, the student I
was mentoring had shown a clear improvement in their
attitude towards studying, and subsequently was achieving
