Welcome Everyone!Kaleidoscope of Change – what a great description of the healthcare landscape these days! Making sure we are being compliant with ever changing regulations, learning about the latest quality program and how we can maintain our level of reimbursement not only this year, but for the next several years. Then let’s throw in patient satisfaction and employee engagement – is your mind spinning yet? Have you noticed the new MGMA logo and tag line? One of the fundamental principles of the SDMGMA is to provide you with knowledge, skills, and maybe even tools to help address these complex issues. Annual conferences are a wonderful venue and opportunity to learn, share, and connect.

Our education committee has once again risen to the challenge and found several topics and speakers that should help with understanding and facing the changes we are dealing with. Topics range from “Why People Do What They Do” and patient experience insights to HIPAA Security and the South Dakota Attorney General. Also, some of the best resources I have found at these conferences are through interaction with others who must deal with these same challenges – your fellow SDMGMA members.

The board has followed due diligence in exploring options for our SDMGMA website, decided to continue to work through the SDSMA vendor, and cannot wait to show you the end product – a much more robust, friendly, and useful website. Watch for the demonstration at the conference! A huge thanks to Justin Garry for taking on the bulk of this project. If you have any ideas for making the website more valuable to our members, please talk to any of the board members.

While attending the conference, please take the time to visit with our exhibitors and conference sponsors. Many of them have been long time supporters of your individual practices and of our educational conference. Without their generosity and support, these meetings simply would not be possible. Make sure you take the opportunity to thank all of them.

Please let one of the education committee or board members know if there is anything we can do to make the conference more enjoyable and rewarding for you. So enjoy the learning, reconnecting with friends and making new ones, and hopefully some leisure time, too.

“Only 50% of workers in the United States are committed to and engaged in their work” - State of the American Workforce report / Gallup 2013

Practices are changing at lightning speed. What if we looked internally to make it easier externally? In other words, what if we considered how to get our employees more engaged at what they do so that it will ultimately have an effect on the ‘patient’ experience? In his high-energy, high-humor and high-content style, Jeff walks audiences through the “Four Pillars of Engagement:” Creativity,Commitment, Accountability and Communication.
