Well, another year lies ahead of us I hope you have all enjoyed the various meetings, activities and events through 2016. The newsletter captures a great summary of these from a variety of contributors. If you haven’t put pen to paper, key to board or sent in a photo then please add a line to your New Year’s resolutions to do so in 2017. Our Editor, Karen, has completed her first year looking after the newsletter and we congratulate her on a job well done and look forward to her tenure for the year, or even years ahead!! We say congratulations to Fiona for being voted as Member of the Year for 2016, a well-deserved award for her hard work in supporting the club. Photos are also included of our Member of the Year along with the second winner of Sned’s Spoon. I wonder how many will own up to an unfortunate time with their MG in 2017! Photos of the Christmas Dinner evening are now on the website in the gallery. Hopefully opportunities will be taken to get those jobs done on the car before we start the events cycle in mid-March at the Winchester MGOC Cobweb Spin. See later. Soon after the Christmas Dinner we bade farewell to Andrew and Jane Kettle who have moved back to Pembrokeshire. We have been invited to call in at any time and we wish Andrew and Jane the very best for the future. They are keeping their membership of our club active so we will be able to let them know through the newsletter what they are missing! A Happy New Year to all.
Editors Notes:
Annual General Meeting Wednesday 11th January 2017 Our AGM will be held in the upper room of The Empress of Blandings with commencement of proceedings at 2000hrs. All paid up members are welcome to attend. The papers have been sent out and will be available in the Members Area of the website. There is a password but if you have forgotten it please ask Fiona or myself and we will send it to you directly.
January Mid-monthly
This will be held on Wednesday 18th January at The Elm Tree near Ringwood.
Happy New Year Everybody!! Wishing you all a Healthy and Prosperous 2017. I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and received all you were wishing for, thanks to Mike Short for letting us know what it is, his heart really desired! I wonder if Santa delivered? My sincere Congratulations go to Fiona on receiving the Member of the Year award, fabulous choice! I have included a note from Fiona to us all regarding her thoughts on this and also thank you for the Results of the 2016 Photo Competition. I have also included a letter we received from Pat (Fiona’s Mum). There are lots of events to look forward to in 2017 and I hope to keep you informed and updated on all the events members are, and can be involved in, with your help on information, reports etc. that you kindly send to me. Thank you to Robin for his report on the Christmas Dinner.
Most of you will recall, in last Month’s Newsletter I included a Quiz and I have supplied you with the Answers further down in this Newsletter. As for the winners, I only received nine entries, which was a little disappointing, however the entries I did receive scored between 31 to 34 out of 35. Therefore, as no member got the full 35, and I received three entries that tied on 34, I decided it was only fair to give all these three entrants the winner’s prize of a bottle of wine. I am pleased to inform you that the three winning members were Mike Short, Ian & Collette Galloway and Andrew and Jane Kettle, whom I did manage to catch just before they left for Pembroke to give them their prize. Thank you to everyone that entered. Good luck to Andrew and Jane in their new adventure and glad they managed to get into their new home by ‘the skin of their teeth’, just in time for Christmas Day. I sincerely hope you will be very happy and that you keep in touch.
Karen
Christmas Dinner 2016
Fifty-six members, guests and friends along with another group of ten enjoyed the hospitality and entertainment of the Moorhill House Hotel at Burley on Saturday 10th December. Following pre-dinner drinks, we sat down to a three course dinner followed by coffee and mince pies. Opportunity was taken to thank all attendees and highlight the work of our club officers before presenting the prizes of Sned’s Spoon and the award for Member of the Year before handing over to the DJ for the disco. The dance floor was well populated for most of the evening until closing at midnight. Unfortunately, it would seem a misunderstanding of licensing rules meant the hotel staff shut the bar so our usual winding down quiet drink before bedtime did not happen this year. A hearty breakfast in the morning sent us all on our way for various activities on Sunday. A provisional booking has been made with New Forest Hotels for Friday 15th December 2017 and The South Lawn Hotel for Saturday 16th December 2017. I did circulate an email about this a couple of weeks ago and have had just a few responses.

Robin
Dear All, I was absolutely delighted to have been voted Club Member of the Year 2016 – thank you all very much. It was genuinely a surprise; if you look back over the year we have as a Club done a tremendous amount on and off the road. Drive it Day, Hamptworth Day, theatre trips, holiday in France, RAT, getting together to go on other Clubs runs, Cotswold Caper and Tamar Run but most importantly the New Forest Run – not just the day but all the work running up to the big day and beyond. All of these events and outings just don’t happen on their own, there is somewhere in the background, a 1009 Member co-ordinating. I am fortunate that I really do enjoy what I do for the Club and this award has just been ‘icing on the cake’ and very much appreciated, so thank you all very much. Fiona
New Forest Run - Sunday 4th June 2017 The 1009 webpage has entry forms and information for this year’s run and Fiona has already received entries and requests for Cream Teas for the New Forest Run. There is a monthly advert in Enjoying MG for the next four months as well as an entry in their Events Section in the magazine and on the website. As previously indicated, the start will again be from the War Memorial Village Hall at East Boldre with a new finish at The South Lawn Hotel near Milford-on-Sea. On the evening of Saturday 3rd June we will be meeting up at The Huntsman of Brockenhurst (formerly the Rose and Crown) for a skittles evening. Please remember we are always looking for volunteers at the start and finish to assist with marshalling, receiving entrants and issuing route books and rally plaques as well as assisting with the supply of tea, coffee and bacon butties at the start. If you haven’t joined us for the run before you will still have the opportunity to help and take part in the run.
Update: As of 29th
December 2016 we have 8 entries
Happy to announce the winners:
3rd Place – Tamar Winners – Robin Plumley
2nd Place – MGB Mont St Michel – Ian Calloway
1st Place – MGVA gets a makeover – Mike Short
Prizes awarded at the next Monthly meeting – thank you to all who
submitted photos and all who voted. There were some very worthy
runners up (too many to mention) but I hope that you will keep the
photos coming in throughout next year.
Rules for the 2017 photo completion will be available soon!
Dear Robin, Karen & All, Thank you so much for the lovely flowers as belated Birthday and Christmas wishes. They seem to last for ages and were very enjoyable. I was sorry not to have made it to the Christmas Dinner however I hear that my replacement did his homework. He sent an email to some Classic Car friends to find out what the ' MG chat' was over dinner and the reply was 'Electrical faults, tyre pressure and the price of tickets for Goodwood' - perhaps he was better prepared than I could ever be! Best wishes to all for a very happy 2017 and hopefully I will be able to get out for a run or two. Best wishes Pat Sommerville

Mid monthly meetings are on the third Wednesday of the month and are held at a different pub
within the Southampton & New Forest Area. There is no format, just an evening to catch up with
other members, perhaps enjoy a meal together and chat.
Details of the different venues can be found on the 1009 Web Site Calendar.
Colette asked if this could be included as a helpful reminder to all new members as where we can get our MG garments embroidered etc.
