SIOP Tag The Sophomore GRAD cohort has teamed up with an EL Inclusion English 10 class in a SIOP-inspired endeavor. The first step took place last week when the two classes held a “Meet and Greet.” The content objective was to get to know each other through casual con- versations. The ultimate goal is for EL students to build relationships and friendships and be matched with tutors who will mentor them as they learn a new language. The biggest focus will be helping EL students with their under- standing of English vocabulary and writing skills. Students will also help each other in subjects such as Chemistry, Algebra, Speech, etc. Best Practices prove that if students teach someone else, then they themselves will more likely master the material. This will benefit the GRAD students tremendously, and in turn will provide a scaffold for Mr. Auger’s students who are mastering a new language. Kudos to Mrs. Worley and Mr. Auger for creating opportuni- ties for students to talk to each other about ac- ademics. This is SIOP in action at SHS. Athletics Congratulations to Zoey Freese who won regionals last week with a score of 77. If she qualifies in the top 9 or is within 4 strokes of the winner this Friday at Legends Golf Club, she will tee off in the Finals on Saturday. Good luck, Zoey! Join us on Friday as we host Operation Football. We are not only the Game of the Week, but also Marching Band of the Week. We take on the Lawrence Central Bears.
