Soybean Update June 17, 2015
Crop Conditions The IP soybean crop is looking good, with healthy plants and even crop stands. Insect and disease pressure is low in all fields. Some root rots are beginning to show up as result of the saturated soils and some septoria leaf spot was seen in a few northern fields. Slug feeding has been seen in a few fields in the South. Some water ponding in the North is starting to cause some yellowing and stunting associated with nitrogen deficiency.
Crop Staging The crop was planted earlier than normal as a result of a dry spring and are well advanced for this time of year. Fields range in development from the first to the third trifoliate.
Weather The weather over the past week has been hot and humid with rain over a number of days. There has been a significant amount of rainfall over the past couple of weeks, especially in the North. Some fields have water laying in them while others are drying up nicely. Some dry weather would be very welcome at this point. The forecast over the next two weeks calls for mainly sunny weather with scattered showers possible over a few days and temperatures around 24°C.
