s Kays Medical is firmly established as one of the UK’s leading providers of first aid training, and now amongst the first to be OFQUAL approved. Now that the HSE will no longer be approving First Aid at Work training providers, they have released guidance for employers on the selection of competent providers. The employer must now show that due diligence (reasonable investigation) in selecting a provider has been carried out.

For companies offering OFQUAL, SQA or Welsh Government approved training, such as Kays Medical, no due diligence is required. The HSE accept that this training is a nationally accredited and a regulated qualification.

That means you can be sure the best value, best quality and most up to date training is exactly what your staff will be receiving when training with Kays Medical.

More than 100,000 people have undertaken our approved and high quality first aid training courses. At workplaces across the UK we have equipped people with the skills and confidence to respond effectively in emergencies.

Understanding your obligations, legal or otherwise, may be daunting when it comes to first aid provision in the workplace.

As your dedicated training partner we can work with you in assessing your needs and delivering the solutions that best suit you and your budget.

The process is simple, let us get you from A to B. You tell us your story, who you are, who your team is, what you do. We will explain what your first aid needs are likely to involve and provide the courses needed to make your organisation safer.

From number of first aiders, level of training required, specialist needs and any requalification requirements, your training will then be delivered to a timetable that suits you, at your preferred location and to the highest possible standards.

Which qualification is right for me, my team, my organisation?

How are first aid courses delivered? Our training courses have a strong focus on practical exercises to ensure our trainees have hands-on knowledge.

Each course is delivered by an expert and, more importantly, a professional instructor. This is an important distinction as many first aid courses are delivered by volunteers and part time trainers who may lack the expertise and experience of a full time instructor.

During the course each topic will be introduced at a manageable and enjoyable pace, building on earlier foundations and inviting trainees to interact and test their understanding of key concepts. Throughout, the instructor will, where appropriate, demonstrate principles and invite trainees to engage in exercises to ensure a thorough understanding.

Courses proceed in a way that ensures everyone is happy and confident in their understanding; and that nobody gets left behind.

We provide access to open courses, which are run weekly, at our Liverpool based training centre. We also offer group courses, which can be specially arranged for up to 12 persons at our centre or your premises anywhere in the UK.

Best-in-class, OFQUAL approved first aid instruction featuring hands-on

practical tuition.

Workplace First Aid course contents are prescribed by the Health & Safety Executive for which all our courses adhere; ensuring candidates cover all the areas essential for effective workplace first aid.

To offer some insight, the list above gives some examples of topics which are likely to be covered in our first aid training courses (course dependent).

First Aid is subject to constant evaluation and evolution as the medical science which underpins it moves on. Throughout this evolution Kays constantly undertake to improve every aspect of our courses to ensure the very latest and best techniques are being presented to our students.

Students can be confident that when attending a Kays course they will be instructed on the most up to date techniques available, in addition to challenging any previous incorrect or outdated knowledge which they may have.

Where do first aid courses take place?Throughout our 30 years we have delivered first aid training at our Liverpool based training centre, and at customer sites across mainland UK.

In February 2008 we completed a million pound refurbishment of our head office and training facilities and now boast a selection of state-of-the-art training rooms with a variety of amenities for students. In addition we are now capable of providing training from our dedicated Aberdeen based centre. All of our individual courses are available at Liverpool and Aberdeen training centres. Group courses can be arranged either at our premises or your own site anywhere in mainland UK and Northern Ireland.

Group courses booked at your own premises require a suitable environment for training to take place (details available on request).

Our larger customers require training of many hundreds of individuals a year at many different locations. We manage this entire process for them, providing value and flexibility, fitting entirely within their timetable for staff availability.

“As real as it gets... in the classroom”Practical sessions involving Wound Simulation are extremely popular and well received aspects of Bespoke Course delivery.

A little bit of fun but with a very real, and useful, component that delivers ‘as real as it gets’ training - Casualty Simulation.

Borrowing a few techniques from special effects production our instructors produce highly realistic wounds which allow trainees to understand exactly how certain injuries might be presented.

Our instructors also run scenario training where delegates are split into groups; go off and discuss, before returning and presenting to receive valuable feedback from the instructors.

This emphasis on scenario based training and practical examples featuring wound simulation provide the candidate with a strong sense of what to expect in actual first aid situations.

Such experience can help first aiders remain calm and think straight, ensuring correct and efficient administration of life saving first aid when it's needed most.

Sudden cardiac arrest kills 100,000 per year in the UKThe majority of these are caused by heart rhythm problems which can be treated by immediate application of a defibrillator.

The chances of surviving a sudden cardiac arrest drop between 7 and 10% for every minute the victim remains untreated. Fortunately we are beginning to see much broader installation of automatic defibrillation devices in public places and high risk areas (e.g. sports facilities).

Automatic external defibrillators are designed to allow non-medical professionals to deliver life-saving treatment to a victim of cardiac arrest. When individuals also have the knowledge and confidence gained from undertaking a specific AED training course, vital seconds can be gained which can further dramatically improve patient outcome.

Kays Medical have been delivering defibrillation courses for over fifteen years using best-in-class equipment and techniques, ensuring your life-savers have the best possible chances of administering effective first aid.

Courses include:

» Understanding cardiac arrest

» Types of cardiac arrest

» Assessing patients

» Understand an AED

» Administering an AED

» Monitoring patients

» Testing an AED

Rapid decontamination is vital when dealing with hydrofluoric acidThe Health & Safety Executive (HSE), Chemical Industries Association (CIA) and National Poisons Information Service (NPIS) advise that for responsive patients, immediate decontamination is the priority for individuals exposed to hydrofluoric acid.

Hydrofluoric acid, even comparatively low strengths, is toxic and has the potential to cause serious tissue damage and death when contaminated individuals are not treated swiftly and properly.

We have been delivering advanced HF acid treatment courses for a number of years based on our detailed knowledge of industry usage and applicable treatment protocols.

Whether your organisation's HF acid treatment protocol is Calcium Gluconate Gel or Hexafluorine we have courses for both; and can offer detailed insight into the different protocols.

Since we also supply decontamination products our courses are practical and example-led to ensure trainees have benefited from first hand experience with products such as Calcium Gluconate Gel.

Trainees will undertake practical exercises and benefit from hands-on experience with our range of decontamination products and kits.

Courses include:

» Understanding chemicals and risks

Candidates will benefit from practical, hands-on training so as best to prepare them for real life situations. As part of the oxygen administration syllabus trainees will:

» Assess casualty and suitability of oxygen

» Learn technical aspects of administration
