Benefits & Features Non-modular Industrial Product Line We offer a standard line of non-modular environmental systems as well. They are designed for vertical thru-the-wall applications. They are typically used in refineries / petrochemical / hazardous areas. They are available in sizes ranging from 2 ton thru 30 tons. Purge and pressurization controls are available on all non-modular systems. All of our systems that are 3 ton and larger, feature dual refrigeration circuits for redundancy. A variety of low ambient controls are also available including flooded condenser and constant run compressors. These systems also offer the option of auxiliary evaporator fans to provide additional airflow (cfm) and serve as an automatic backup in the event the main fan should fail.

Benefits & Features Special Applications Certain applications do not lend themselves to the use of our standard non-modular or our modular lines. In these cases we respond with our twenty plus years of design experience.

We answered the challenge of designing and manufacturing two 10 ton systems to be used by NASA to meet their needs in transporting the U.S. Space Shuttle to the launch pad. (Shown to the left). These systems utilized PLC controls with touch screen monitoring from local and remote locations. As well as numerous monitoring devices to track air pressures thru the filtering matrix. Various transducers were employed to monitor refrigerant and electrical conditions. All monitoring was held in logic to warn of potential alarm conditions.

Specific Systems has the experience and technology available to design a system to meet even the most unusual needs; most of the time with a turn-around of less than four months

Alumina (AL2O3) that has been impregnated with precise quantities of potassium permanganate (KMNO4). This is formed into uniformly sized 1/16 “ or 1/8” spheres that are non-toxic, non-flammable and inorganic. The alumina, being hygroscopic, provides the essential moisture needed to dissolve portions of the impregnated oxidant potassium permanganate. When gases flow through the bed of spheres, they are differentially consumed. The unified processes of adsorption/absorption and oxidation work together to destroy the contaminates yielding them into non-toxic odorless by-products. Unsaturated hydrocarbons produce CO2 and water. Sulfur compounds produce potassium sulfide or manganese sulfide (salts). Esters and alcohols will produce acetic acid (vinegar).

Industrial modular and non-modular options:

Humidification Dehumidification Visual/audible alarm pkg. Phase monitors Smoke detectors Remote control panels

Our electrical assemblies are top of the line in the environmental control industry. These assemblies feature ‘off the shelf components’ that are designed to exceed the demands caused by the harsh and constant usage that is common in many applications. The components are mounted with stainless steel fasteners into threaded holes to allow for easy removal of the component. All of the relays contain a red pilot lamp which allows for easier trouble shooting of the electrical system. The wiring is neatly loomed and each end of each wire is marked with an individual shrink mark number that correlates with the provided wiring diagram. The evaporator and condenser motor contactors each have an overload relay to provide over amperage protection and may be set to either automatic reset or manual reset. The function testing and inspection of each system includes wire pulling and terminal inspection of each wire located within the panel. Each terminal strip that is to be interfaced by the end user is marked with a plasitized strip, to eliminate confusion while hooking up any alarms or peripheral devices that is remote to the unit. The systems that contain pressurization controls have separate circuitry for the pressurization controls. This allows for a dual power source, which is often required when a UPS is provided. This same system may be easily adapted for a single power source, as well. All of the electrical schemes for our modular / non- modular / special application products are designed as a basic format that fits all unit types. A large list of electrical options and combinations of options has been developed into this format, to allow for quick inclusion into the design. This allows for quick design time, even for some of the most unusual design request.

Benefits & Features

Our modular and non-modular systems feature direct drive fan assemblies. The direct drive feature eliminates the possibilities of belt and bearing failures that would accompany a system that operates in harsh climates for extended lengths of time; or remote sites where routine maintenance is not practical.

Our rugged condenser fan assembly features an oversized TEFC motor for operation in the most extreme conditions. Division I rated units are equipped with explosion proof motors. Also featured as a standard on all of our products is the multi-wing polypropylene condenser fan. This fan produces a greater static pressure than the less expensive conventional three or four blade aluminum fan. These fans also have no deflection during operation and resist weathering, to provide a longer and more reliable life span.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION STANDARD OPERATION

The Specific Systems MAC-62 conditioning unit is designed to supply conditioned air

through a wide range of ambient temperatures. All components were selected to provide

long, trouble free service and to require minimal maintenance. The unit is constructed of

separate evaporator, condenser and control modules.

Modular design means standard modules can be used to build up various unit

configurations such as vertical, horizontal and split systems. Lightweight subassemblies

can be easily handled and serviced. Down time due to repair can be virtually eliminated

due to the ability to rapidly replace a modular subassembly with a spare module. The

defective module can then be sent to a repair depot where more reliable repair and testing

can be performed than would not be possible in the field.

OPERATION

The remote control panel controls the operation of the ECU. This panel contains the

following control devices:

1. Control Circuit ON/OFF switch - energizes the evaporator fan and allows

ECU operation. This switch is also a control power circuit breaker that will

trip to the 'OFF' position in the event of a control power short or overload.

This switch may be reset by setting the switch to 'OFF' then 'ON'. Should

there be a compressor fault, the ECU may be reset by performing the same

reset procedure. A fault lamp or a tripped 'OFF/ON' switch should be

investigated to determine the cause of the problem.

2. Mode selector switch HEAT/VENT/COOL - allows heat only / ventilation

only / cooling only to operate

3. Thermostat - adjust the set point for heating/cooling

4. Lamps

a. Power on Lamp - indicates ECU is energized

b. Heat on Lamp - indicates the heat stage is operating

c. Cooling on Lamp - indicates the compressor is in the cooling mode as

opposed to the bypass mode as described in the 'Refrigeration Cycle'

located in section 1.

d. Evaporator fan - indicates the fan is operating

e. Condenser fan - indicates the fan is operating

f. Compressor fault lamp - indicates the compressor has failed due to a

high/low refrigerant condition

Because of possible disturbances of cardiac rhythm, catecholamine drugs, such as epinephrine, should only be used with special caution in situations of emergency life support. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES _______________________________________________________________________ Flammable Properties Flash Point : Will not burn Auto decomposition : 632 C (1170 F) Other burning materials may cause “FREON” 22 to burn weakly. Chlorodifluoromethane is not flammable at ambient temperatures and atmospheric pressure. However, chlorodifluoromethane has been shown in tests to be combustible at pressures as low as 60 psig at ambient temperature when mixed with air at concentrations of 65-volume % air. Experimental data have also been reported which indicate combustibility of “FREON” 22 in the presence of certain concentrations of chlorine. Fire and Explosion Hazards : Cylinders may rupture under fire conditions. Decomposition may occur. Extinguishing Media As appropriate for combustibles in area. Extinguishing for other burning material in area is sufficient to stop burning. Fire Fighting Instructions Use water spray or fog to cool containers. Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) is required if cylinders rupture or contents are released under fire conditions. Water runoff should be contained and neutralized prior to release. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES ________________________________________________________________________ Safeguards (Personnel) NOTE: Review FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES and HANDLING (PERSONNEL) sections before proceeding with clean up. Use appropriate PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT during clean up. Accidental Release Measures Ventilate area, especially low or enclosed places where heavy vapors might collect. Remove open flames. Use self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for large spills or releases. HANDLING AND STORAGE

STABILITY AND REACTIVITY ______________________________________________________________________ Chemical Stability

Material is stable. However, avoid flames and high temperatures.

Incompatibility With Other Materials Incompatible with alkali or alkaline earth metals –powdered A1, Zn, Be, etc. Decomposition

Decomposition products are hazardous. “FREON” 22 can be decomposed by high temperatures (open flames, glowing metal surfaces, etc.) forming hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids, and possibly carbonyl halides. These materials are toxic and irritating. Contact should be avoided.

Polymerization Polymerization will not occur. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION ________________________________________________________________________ Animal Date

INHALATION: 4 hour, LC50, rat: 220,000 ppm. The compound is a skin irritant and a slight eye irritant, but is not a skin sensitizer in animals. Effects from single high exposures include central nervous system depression, anesthesia, rapid breathing, lung congestion and microscopic liver changes. Cardiac sensitization occurred in dogs at 50,000 ppm or greater from the action of exogenous epinephrine. No toxic effects or abnormal histopathological observations occurred in rats repeatedly exposed to concentrations ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 ppm (v/v). Long-term exposures to 50,000ppm (v/v) of vapors produced organ weight increases and a decrease in body weight gain, but no increased mortality or adverse hematological effects. In chronic inhalation studies, “FREON” 22, at a concentration of 50,000 ppm (v/v), produced a small, but statistically significant increase of late-occurring tumors involving salivary glands in male rats, but not female rats or male or female mice. In the same studies, no increased incidence of tumors was seen in either species at concentrations of 10,000 ppm or 1,000 ppm (v/v). Long-term administration in corn oil produced no effects on body weight or mortality. “FREON” 22 was mutagenic in some strains of bacteria in bacterial cell cultures, but not mammalian cell cultures or animals. It did not cause heritable genetic damage in mammals. A slight, but significant increase in developmental toxicity was observed at high

Page 50: SPECIFIC SYSTEMS - ImageEventphotos.imageevent.com/qdf_files/technicalgoodies... · 2009-12-31 · All of the electrical schemes for our modular / non- modular / special application

concentrations (50,000 ppm) of “FREON” 22, a concentration which also produced toxic effects in the adult animal. Based on these findings, and other negative developmental studies, “FREON” 22 is not considered a unique hazard to the conceptus. Studies of the effects of “FREON” 22 on a male reproductive performance have been negative. Specific studies to evaluate the effect on female reproductive performance have not been conducted, however, limited information obtained from studies on developmental toxicity do not indicate adverse effects on female reproductive performance at concentrations up to 50,000 ppm. PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE GUIDE

The operating life of this air conditioning unit can be extended by following a definite

maintenance schedule. It is the responsibility of the ultimate operator to provide this

service. A regular schedule will reduce the possibility of premature failure of the

components leading to air conditioner failure. Although the service technicians must be

thoroughly familiar with the special design features before attempting any service or

repair, an inexperienced operator can perform certain maintenance functions to assure

normal trouble-free operation. These functions are listed as follows:

AIR FILTER Replace whenever it is visually dirty. In high dust areas, the filters should be checked every two weeks. CONDENSER Regularly check the condenser coil (outdoor) and condenser air inlet grills for obstructions and clean as necessary. DRAINS Regularly check the condensate drains to insure proper drainage. CABINET The cabinet may be wiped down with a sponge and warm soapy water to keep the finish looking new.
