MM Aqua's SPECTRA DrirEliminators provide outs, tandingperformance in both crossflow ancounterflow applications. Since firstintroduced in 1979, a number 0':

Removing liquid droplets tromcooling tower exhaust air while usingas little fan energy as possible is whatefficient drift removal is all about:

(Figure 1). One look at the bladedesign of SPECTRA DtiftEliminators will tell you why they aresuperior in virtually eliminatingcooling tower drift in an energyefficient way.

All drift eliminator designs rely onrapid changes in velocity anddirection of air-droplet mixtures toremove drift by impaction oneliminator passage surfaces. Thiprinciple applies to both cellular andblade type designs. Sinusoidal passagefotms are widely acknowledged as the

capability. Once SPECTRA DriftEliminator panels are installed, novoids or discontinuities exist in theeliminator section. This means that

with SPECTRA blow-by and carryover become virtually nonexistent.

Superior Material

SPECTRA PYC is speciallyformulated for its superior physicalproperties. It includes TitaniumDioxide as a UV inhibitor to provideexceptional resistance to ultravioletradiation in outdoor weather

exposures. SPECTRA PYC stands upwell to temperature variations, aircontamination and biological attack.SPECTRA Drift Eliminators aremade of PYC that meets or exceeds

ide plates are designed with selflocking flanges that provide quick, positiye panel end seals. SPECTRA'Sside plate also has a built-in drainchannel to drain collected drift liquidto non-critical areas outside the main

gas stream. This is particularlyimportant because competitivecellular desi!?:ns lack this drain

and once they plug there is no way topressure wash them because they arefragile. SPECfRA'S rugged, doublewall construction allows pressurewashing without damage to eliminateany efficiency loss due to biomassbuild-up.

Glue-Free Assembly, EasyInstallation

SPECTRA blades and side plates are, easily assembled into panels at the job

site. No thermal shock-sensitive

bonding agents are used. Assembly isquick and easy'without special labor, tools or ancillary fasteners. Panels areinstalled in any' opening with supportmembers on twO opposing sides andcan span 3 metres withoutintermediate supports. Most in-placewood or concrete cooling towersrrucrural members may be used forSPECTR -\ Drift Eliminator paneluppon without additional framing.

design. And SPECTRA provides auseful air velocity operating rangethat is well beyond the limits of otherproducts.

Exceptional Strength, WideSpans

MMAqua's unique SPECTRA bladedesign provides superior beamstrength allowing spans of upto 3metres without intermediate

supports. This exceptional spancapability is a big advantage for drifteliminator replacements in naturaldraft cooling towers. The ruggeddesign of SPECfRA DriftEliminators means they can bepressure washed, if necessary, withoutdamage.

restrictions in cooling rowers, biological fouling is becoming anincreasingly important concern.Cellular designs are much moresusceptible to fouling and plugging

specifications for Type 1 rigidpolyvinylchloride compounds. Type 1PVC compounds have the higheststrength and chemical resistanceproperties of all the rigid PVCcompounds. (Table 1). In theserespects PVC is considered superior toother plastics. PVC retains highimpact and tensile strength and resistsheat distortion over a wide range oftemperatl~re conditions. Theseproperties, coupled with the higltlystable double-wall blade construction

and low working stresses, assure stableblade dimensions and structural

integrity of the SPECTRA designeven under severe thermal shockconditions.

Long Operating LifeSPECTRA PVC is highly imperviousto chemical and biologicaldegradation. Strong acids, alkalies andsalt solutions have minimal effects on

both its strength and durability (Table2). The exceptional resistance ofSPECTRA's PVC compound tochemical and biological attack providea notably longer operating lifecompared to wood or other plastics.

Lower Fire Risk

As the result of extensive testing,SPECTRA Drift Eliminators have

been assigned a Class 1 fire retardantrating. Tunnel tests conducted bySouthwest Research Institute, inaccordance with ASTM- E-84-70 test

Economical Shipment andStorageThe unique design of SPECTRADrift Eliminators allows shipmentand storage in a compact, low volumenest form. In comparison to highvolume cellular type designs,SPECTRA provides significantlylower shipping, handling and in-plantstorage COSts.

LightweightThe SPECTRA Drift Eliminator

weighs only 6.59 kg/cu.meter. This is1/2 to 1/3 lighter than most wood

eliminator designs and reducesloads on tower structures.
