on full display at Stouffville Starlight Gala on Thursday, May 21, 2020.

Presented by a group of like-minded community and business leaders

and long-time Stouffville residents, this spring evening of socializing and

friend-raising will benefit Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) – our

community hospital. Through the Stouffville Starlight Gala these local

luminaires will inspire a spirit of generosity that makes a real impact

on MSH and the lives of its patients.

As MSH moves into the future, it is responding to the ever-changing

landscape of community healthcare and its rapidly expanding and aging

populations. Government can’t fund all equipment and other priority

needs. Markham Stouffville Hospital must rely on community support

to drive innovation and enable growth.

Your support will ensure the healthcare needs of your community – your

loved ones, friends and neighbours – continue to be met close to home

at our hospital for generations to come.

YOUR SPONSORSHIP PLAYS A CRUCIAL ROLE

The Hybrid OR — Bringing Innovation to MSHWith 28 surgeons performing over 20,200 surgeries at MSH every year, including preventative and diagnostic procedures such as biopsy, colonoscopy and endoscopy, new surgical equipment and technology is an ongoing need. It is imperative to keep up with demand as well as keep pace with medical advances.

To meet the increasing demand and optimize health outcomes, the time has come for MSH to outfit a new fluoroscopy-equipped hybrid Operating Room (OR). A fluoroscopy-equipped OR will immediately benefit the urology program as well as enable future growth opportunities for cardiac and stroke interventions, our orthopaedic program and spinal surgeries.

You can enable the growth of MSH’s surgical program by helping fund the new hybrid OR renovation project including:

• Installation of fluoroscopy-equipped table and GreenLight Laser

• Acquisition of anaesthetic machine, multiple movable booms, light sources,electro surgery machine and additional scopes, all to support patient safetyand shorter wait times

• Additional infrastructure requirements including a new dedicated airhandling unit and modifications to existing heating and cooling capabilities

• Additional power and electrical and data communication

FLUOROSCOPYBest described as an ‘x-ray’ movie, fluoroscopy is an imaging tool that uses x-rays to obtain real-time moving images, giving a very detailed look at areas of the body including bones, organs, muscles and joints.

GREENLIGHT LASER THERAPYGreenLight Laser Therapy uses a laser beam to remove prostate tissue for patients with an enlarged prostate (BPH). It offers shorter hospital stay and a faster recovery than traditional surgical options.

Building on the success of our 2018 Planting Seeds – Growing Friends Gala, funds raised from the Stouffville Starlight Gala will support the new hybrid OR at MSH. The Hybrid OR, will increase the surgical capacity, reduce wait times, and enhance patient safety and efficiency. For both the surgeon and the patients, less pain, a quicker recovery and shorter wait times are mutual goals.
