Sport for Development (S4D): Approach & Method Magic Bus is a not-for-profit organization in India that has worked with children living in some of the most marginalized circumstances in India for the past 12 years. Using sport and outdoors as a medium, the organization helps children play, reflect and learn from and with each other. Beginning in Mumbai with less than fifty children from impoverished areas in the South of the city, the programme today reaches across 10 states in India, touching the lives of more than 213,000 children. In doing so it has equipped 8000 young people as Community Youth Leaders, who conduct weekly sessions with these children, thus emerging as role models in their communities. The organization has conducted numerous trainings of Physical Education teachers, NGO staff and youth interested in sport and development. Under the International Inspiration project funded by UNICEF, Magic Bus trained more than two hundred Physical Education teachers from seven wards in Mumbai; two trainings each were conducted with Physical Education teachers in Chandrapur and Delhi and two in Andhra Pradesh. Each of these was a residential training of twenty days that built the capacity of the teachers to develop as mentors for their students, explore various ways in which sport can enable self awareness, empathy, as well as achieve development goals related to Education, Health and Gender Equity. Magic Bus has trained students of M.P.Ed, M.P.Ed, MSW’s from various universities, across India, for e.g. LNUPE (Gwalior),Banasthali University(Rajasthan); introducing them to sports for Development, facilitation methods and techniques, approaches to learning and ways of measuring the impacts of their programmes. ‘Sports for Development’ (S4D) – A residential workshop organized in batches of 30 students each, by Magic Bus will demonstrate ‘sport as a powerful medium for development’. The workshop will apply experiential learning techniques to help you use sport effectively in a range of development related work, whether in schools, colleges, NGOs or communities. Duration: 8 days (Residential) Resource Persons: The lead trainer has twelve years of experience in delivering developmental issues by using Sport and adventure sports as the medium. The training teams have vast experience in conducting training workshops with teachers from Mizoram, Master trainers of PYKKA, Sport volunteers from Afghanistan and various countries of Africa and running Sport for Development courses in academic institutions.
