Dear Families,

Thank you for supporting ‘Sports Relief’ – everyone looked super sporty on Friday. We

were so impressed with some of our older pupils for organising, refereeing and coaching

others. Well done, all! We raised £96! This money will go towards improving the lives of

vulnerable people.

Awards: Our Inspiring awards went to Elia, Zach and Abby. Our Caring awards went to Joss,

Harry and Jack. Our Excelling awards to Chloe W, Alice and Harry. Our Enjoying awards to

Elsie, Caitlin and Amelia. We are all very proud of you - Thank you for making Bolton PRIMARY a

great place to be.

The raffle ticket winner this week, for going the extra mile is Sophie. Well done,

Sophie!

Reading – strive for five certificate – raffle ticket winners – Sean, Lily and Oliver A.

Coronavirus - The health and well-being of our children is really important to us. We ask that parents

help to contain and minimise the spread of the virus by not coming into school unless it is urgent and

class 1 parents, bring younger children to the classroom door. Please phone or email any messages. In

school, we are continuously reminding children about handwashing; it would be helpful if this

could be encouraged at home and after trips out.

If there is a confirmed case at school then PHE will advise us on the appropriate steps. If you have

been in contact with a confirmed case you should self-isolate.

If your child has a fever, dry cough or is displaying a shortness of breath please DO NOT bring them

to school and contact NHS 111. Notify us, at school, about the action you have been asked to take.

Local schools are all taking the same procedures and only ‘core business’ is happening in school so until

further notification ALL school sporting fixtures will be cancelled.

The poster attached provides really useful information from Public Health England. Please see link

below also for the Dfe advice page which is continuously changing day by day.

PLEASE NOTE THAT EVERYTHING MENTIONED IN THIS LETTER IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS

THE WE MONITOR THE SITUATION AND TAKE ADVICE.

It is likely that we may have to move to teaching the children remotely. Teachers are holding a

meeting tonight to talk about how we could set tasks for pupils if there is a long period of closure. It

is probable that we would use email and the website to let you know what teaching and learning tasks

that we would require the children to do. Please could you let us know by contacting the school, if the

accessing the website or receiving emails would be a problem for you and you would require another

method of communication? Also please inform us if you have changed your email address recently.

Thank you. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-educational-settings-about-covid-19/guidance-to-

educational-settings-about-covid-19 Attendance Letter – the staff and governors have introduced an attendance letter for any pupil whose attendance falls below 90%. The headteacher is required to report on attendance termly to the governors. Please understand that this is like ‘holiday letter’ (or letter for an unauthorised absence). We do accept that there are many genuine reasons why people are absent form school e.g. illness. We are just trying to draw attention to good attendance and minimise any loss of teaching and learning time. Thank you.

Reading – We are delighted with the number of children that have taken up the challenge and done

five reads since we launched STRIVE for FIVE!. It was great to see so many children receiving the

Strive for Five Awards.

Some parents have asked for further information on the recording in the children’s reading logs.

Class 1 – we would like you to date and make a comment about reading at home with your child.

Class 2 – we would like both children, parents/carers and buddies to record comments in the log – all

of which count towards the Strive for Five.

Class 3 - we expect that mainly the children will record their own reading; we ask that you will

monitor your child’s reading and check that they are completing their logs and reading regularly.

For reluctant readers, why not do alternate page reading?

Remember to keep it positive – reading should be pleasurable. For KS2 pupils encourage regular longer

sessions so that they can follow and understand the plot rather than large gaps in time in between

reads and short sessions.

Please note that each child now should have a banded reading book apart from children in class 3. All

children are given guidance on choosing books.

Swimming – Please note that there are still two sessions of swimming left at the pool.

We expect high standards of behaviour at the pool. A massive thank you to Helen

Austin, Lisa Wilson and Charlotte Ashley who have helped us with our swimming

sessions. Thanks for your time!

This Friday - REMINDER - Race for Life! – On Friday 20th March we are holding a Race for Life

Event at Bolton Primary School. It’s a great chance to launch our new running track. Due to

the coronavirus we are asking parents not to join us. The sponsor form explains easy ways of

returning your money. Please remember NOT to send money into school – you can send a

cheque payable to Cancer Research UK and post to The Race for Life, PO Box 1579, Oxford

OX4 9HX, alternatively by calling 0300 123 0770 or online at

raceforlife.org/returnsponsorship

The money that we raise through Race for Life will help fund life-saving research to find

cures for over 200 types of Cancer. The race will start on the school field at 2.30 pm and

finish at 3 pm. The children will be encouraged to run for 30 minutes and can they keep track

of their laps if they like. Each child will receive a Race for Life medal for participation.

Our Positive Behaviour Theme this week is ‘ACTS of KINDNESS.’ Remember that we will be looking

for good examples of these behaviours this week.
