    NEWCIS Coffee Morning

    Need someone to chat to?

Just want a bit of advice and guidance?

Carolyn will be holding a drop in coffee morning every Tuesday in our training room atMorfa Clwyd Business Centre from 10:00am 11:30am.

More Volunteers Needed....Can you spare two hours a week to help others?OR

if you want help just turn up and ask for a Shopping Buddy!

The very successful Shopping Buddies scheme co-ordinated by Denbighshire VoluntaryServices Council, in partnership with Rhyl Sainsburys, has just celebrated its First Birthday. The scheme has been so successful more volunteers are needed to help shoppers onadditional days. The scheme currently operates at the Rhyl Sainsburys Store from 11am to1pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Many people are able and keen to go to the supermarket but may need assistance with someaspects of their shopping. Shopping Buddies are a team of VOLUNTEERS who accompanyand assist people during their visit to the supermarket so that they can do their own shopping.

Gerry Frobisher, Shopping Buddies Co-ordinator for Denbighshire Voluntary Services saidThe scheme has been running now for 13 months and we are helping shoppers everytime. Shopping Buddies help by carrying bags for the individual; pushing the trolley;reaching for items on high or low shelves; bending into freezers; and assisting withreading labels. Shoppers who may feel daunted by the prospect of visiting thesupermarket, can rest assured in the knowledge of knowing that there will be someonewith them to lend a hand. The last shopper must request one of our volunteer ShoppingBuddies prior to 12.30pm.

Gerry Frobisher added Its really great news, just how well the scheme has been acceptedby both staff and shoppers. The uptake has been so good and very worth while. We wantto open the scheme up to more days so please contact us at DVSC if you would like to bea volunteer Shopping Buddy for just 2 hours a week.

If anyone is interested in becoming a Shopping Buddy or would like further information about

the Shopping Buddies Scheme call Gaynor Jones on 01824 702441 or Gerry Frobisher on01745 369973, or call at the Customer Service Counter at Rhyl Sainsburys.

Could the new Carers Credit help you?

The Carers Credit protects carers pensions to make sure when they reachretirement they dont face a reduced State pension.

In order to qualify for the new Carers Credit carers must be aged 18-64 and caringfor 20 hours a week for someone who gets Disability Living Allowance or AttendanceAllowance. If the person they care for does not get either of these benefits the carerwould need a health or social care professional to confirm the care they provide isappropriate.

There are a number of groups of carers who may benefit. These include carers whoare missing out on Carers Allowance because they:

dont care for 35 hours or more per weeklook after someone who isnt claiming disability benefitscare for a disabled or ill person where someone else is claiming Carers

Allowance for looking after themlook after several people but dont care for just one of them for 35 hours or

morecare for a person who has gone into hospital or a care home and whose

    disability benefits have therefore stopped

Carers who are claiming Jobseekers Allowance or Employment and SupportAllowance might also benefit from extra contributions to their pension if they claimCarers Credit.

    How to apply?

Visitwww.direct.gov.uk/carerscreditfor an application pack or call the CarersAllowance Unit on 0845 608 4321.
