Dear JCC Members and Friends,You have probably noticed a flurry of activity around the JCC…both inside and out! We are thrilled to have begun the site work for the dome over the outdoor pool. The outdoor work is being done in advance of the summer swim club and camp season and the dome itself will be in place after the summer. In addition, we have a new gymnasium roof. We want to thank our lay leadership for all of the time and effort they have devoted to expanding and maintaining our JCC. We also thank everyone who has contributed to the Swim & Trim Campaign.

After a very mild winter, we are all enjoying an early Spring and the exciting activities and celebrations the next few months hold. The JCC is holding a Yom Ha’atzmaut Family celebration on April 26 featuring a sing-along with Yossi and arts & crafts. The event in celebration of Israel’s Independence Day is free to all! Come celebrate Israel with your friends at the JCC! Our holiday celebrations continue with Lag B’Omer and Shavuot (please see details on all of these events on Page 7 of this Guide.) We hope you will be part of the community delegation to the Israel Day Parade on Sunday, June 3. (More details to come!)

In addition to our extensive lineup of Fitness Classes and Aquatics offerings, there are a host of educational and enrichment classes for everyone! Please take the time to look through our Spring Guide so that you can participate in the wide variety of offerings.

There are a number of special events coming up, including our first Mah Jongg Tournament (April 22), Texas Hold’em in Hunterdon County (April 26 in Oldwick) and our 11th Annual Golf Outing (June 18 at Raritan Valley Country Club). Our Big Raffle is on sale and winners will be drawn at the Golf Outing. Please purchase a ticket…you can be a winner of three fabulous prizes! The JCC enjoys planning our fundraising activities and events for proceeds that benefit The JCC Scholarship Fund. By supporting the Scholarship Fund you help send a child to our preschool or camp and to enable a child with special needs to be served in these programs as well. The Scholarship Fund also supports our Senior Nutritional Program, which services hundreds of seniors throughout the year.

Thank you for being part of our JCC!

AQUATICS

INFANT/TODDLER COURSES

Aquatots IAges 6 months-18 months

A fun introduction to the water for infants beyond the bathtub! Songs and activities help to develop basic arm and leg movements as well as learning to be comfortable getting their faces and bodies wet. Water safety and fun is also stressed. A swim diaper and rubber pants are required under the child’s swimsuit.

Aquatots IIAges 18 months to 3 years old

For those little swimmers who are already comfortable in the water! Songs and activities help infants and toddlers further gain confidence and practice their budding basic swimming skills. Starfish skills are introduced and children begin to work more with the instructor to get prepared to move to the next level of swimming and rely less on Mommy and Daddy’s help. A swim diaper and rubber pants are required under a child’s swimsuit.

Little StarfishAges 2 and a half-3 and a half

This course is for those little ones who can’t wait to put their faces in the water and splash around but aren’t quite ready to leave Mommy and Daddy and move onto Starfish. This course will teach all of the Starfish skills with the comfort of their parents or adult friend in the water to help them explore the fun world of the pool. Emphasis will be placed on transitioning toddlers from parents to instructor and gaining confidence with their independence in the water.

Proper Supervision...is more than the lifeguards’ responsibility:

Children ages 4 and younger MUST have an adult within arm’s length of them at all times. Children ages 7-11 are permitted in the pool provided that a parent remains in the pool area. Children ages 12 and up are permitted to be alone in the facility. Thank you for helping us keep our pools safe and secure.

Choosing the Right Swim Class/LevelIf you are unsure of a child’s level, you can bring your swimmer in to be tested or contact the Aquatics Director for questions. An in-person evaluation will ensure that your child will be in the correct class. It only takes a few minutes for an instructor to evaluate a swimmer’s level. Call the Aquatics office for more information or to schedule an appointment to start your swimmer off with the correct class this session.

Observation of LessonsWhile we recognize that parents are as thrilled about the progress of their children as the students are, we respectfully ask that parents remain seated on the 6 foot side of the pool bleachers for the duration of your child’s lesson. Unless specified (such as a parent/child swim class) parents are not permitted in the water with their children as this is a distraction to the group as a whole. Thank you for your cooperation.

Make Up PolicyGroup swim classes at the Bridgewater JCC enjoy a limited four student to one instructor ratio. Because of this ratio classes fill up quickly leaving not much option for a makeup class. In order to be considered for a make up class, a doctor’s note must be given to the Aquatics Office. The Aquatics Department cannot guarantee that a makeup class will be available, however every effort will be made to accommodate the need of the individual and that there is space in the class desired.
