glow? There may be several reasons why the ovenlight does not glow. Perhaps:Door is not closed and locked. Push firmly tobe sure that door is locked properly. The light bulb has burned out.

Why is steam coming out of the air exhaustvent?Steam is normally produced during cooking. The microwave oven has been made to ventthis steam.

Can the microwave oven be damaged if itoperates empty?Yes. Never operate while empty or without theturntable positioned correctly on the roller rest.

When the oven is plugged into a wall outlet forthe first time, it might not work properly. Whatis wrong? When the oven is plugged in for the first timeor when power resumes after a powerinterruption, the microcomputer used in theoven control may temporarily becomescrambled and fail to function as programmed.Unplug the oven from the wall outlet and thenplug it back in. The microcomputer will thenreset for proper functioning.

Why do I see light reflection around the outercase? This light is from the oven light located outsidethe oven cavity.

Why is there noise coming from the turntablewhen the oven is turned on?This noise occurs when the turntable roller restand cavity bottom are dirty. Frequent cleaningDf these parts should eliminate or reduce theIoise.

What is wrong when baked foods have a hard, dry brown spot? This is caused by overcooking. Shortencooking or reheating time.

Why do eggs sometimes pop?The egg yolk may pop because of steambuild-up inside the membrane. To prevent this, simply pierce the membrane with a toothpickbefore cooking it.CAUTION: Never microwave eggs in the shellsince they may explode.

W’hy are scrambled eggs sometimes a little dryafter cooking?Eggs d~ out if they are overcooked. You mayneed to vary the cooking time for one of these ‘reasons:Eggs vary in size.Eggs are at room temperature one time and atrefrigerator temperature another time. The shapes of utensils vary, which makes itnecessary to va~ cooking time.Eggs continue cooking during standing time.

What is wrong when three potatoes bakethoroughly and the fourth one is still notcooked? The fourth potato may be slightly heavier thanthe others and should be cooked 30 to 60seconds longer. Remember to allow 2.5 cmaround each potato when baking. For moreeven cooking, place potatoes in a circle..Why do baked apples sometimes burst duringcooking? The peel has not been removed from the tophalf of each apple to allow for expansion of theinterior of the apple during cooking. As inregular cooking methods, the interior of theapple expands during the cooking process.

How are boil-overs avoided?Use a farger ~tensil than usual for cooking. Ifyou open the oven door or touch STOP/CLEAR,the food will stop boiling.

Why does the dish become hot whenlmicrowave food in it?As the food becomes hot it will conduct theheat into the dish. Use oven mitts to removefood after cooking.

Wipe the oven inside and outside with a soft clothand a mild detergent solution. Then rinse and wipedry, This should be done on a weekly basis —more often if needed. Never use cleaning powdersor rough pads. Excessive oil splatters on theinside top will be difficult to remove if left formany days. Wipe spatters with a wet paper towel, especially after cooking chicken%r bacon.

REMOVABLE PARTSThe following parts may be removed as described. They should be washed in warm (not hot) waterwith a mild detergent and a soft cloth. Once theyare clean, rinse them well and dry with a soft cloth.Never use cleaning powders, steel wool or roughpads.

● The turntable maybe cleaned at the sink. Becareful not to chip or scratch the edges as thismay cause the turntable to break during use.

Advantages of microwave cooking are speedand efficiency. For warming, heating, anddefrosting, nothing compares. There are a few Ttips that will make microwaving easier andmore enjoyable.

Microwave Cooking Principles “Because microwave cooking requires onlyone-quarter to one-third the time ofconventional cooking, the same cookingprinciples become even more important.

QuantityThe more food being choked, the longer youwill have to cook it. As a general rule, whendoubling a recipe, increase the cooking timeby about 50 percent. When cutting a recipe inhalf, reduce the time by about 40 percent.

Dens-hyDense foods, such as potatoes, roasts andcarrots, absorb microwave energy less quicklythan porous foods such as ground beef ormashed potatoes. Therefore, denser foods takelonger to cook.

Shape and SizeSmall pieces cook faster than large ones. Foreven cooking, it is important to have all thepieces the same size. Evenly shaped pieces, round or doughnut shaped, microwave best. When cooking items of varying thickness, arrange the thick portion near the outer edgeof the dish.

Moisture, Sugar and FatFood high in moisture, sugar or fat cook fasterthan foods that are low in these substances.Add a minimum of liquid to moist foods. Anexcess amount of water slows cooking.

Starting TemperatureFrozen or refrigerated foods take longer tomicrowave than food at room temperature.

Delicate IngredientsSome foods require special attention whencooked in the microwave oven. Delicate foodssuch as eggs, cheese, mayonnaise, etc. cookso quickly, they should be watched carefully.

.

Microwave Cooking TechniquesArranging: Arrange foods in a circular pattern, when possible. cPiercing: Pierce the membrane of foods suchas eggs, oysters, snails, sausages, livers, clams and whole vegetables, so they do notburst.Covering: Covering speeds heating andprevents spattering.Stirring: To help food cook more quickly andevenly.Turning Over: To help larger foods such asroasts or whole chickens cook more evenly.Reheating: Place food that is denser/larger/thicker to the outer edge and thesmal{er/thinner or more porous food to thecentre.Shielding: To prevent overcooking, thin orbony areas can be protected with small stripsof aluminium foil.Standing Time: Foods continue cooking evenafter removal from the oven. Standing time isnecessary to allow foods to complete cooking.

DefrostingThq microwave’s ability to defrost is one of itsmost appreciated features. Many of the sameprinciples and techniques that apply tomicrowave cooking also apply to microwavedefrosting.

Converting RecipesMicrowave recipes will likely call for less liquidand cooking time.

Microwave ThermometersFor best results, a microwave-safethermometer can be carefully and properlyinserted into the food. The guide tointernaltemperatures gives suggested thermometerreadings for meat and poultry. Keep in mindthat standing time is essential for most food toreach its proper sewing temperature.
