We are honest intermediaries: Yashwant SinhaSrinagar, Dec 14: Former foreign minister, Yashwant Sinha candidly admitted that anti-India sentiments were running very deep in Kashmir. He was interacting with a group of journalists Tuesday.
‘Let me tell me you we are honest intermediaries. Our task is a difficult but we are confident our efforts will yield positive results. Let people of Kashmir ini-tially start a dialogue minus Pakistan with India. I don’t think it is an impossible task. Something positive may defi-nitely emerge,” he said.
He said that on way to Baramulla in North
Kashmir his team saw bold painted slogans on a wall: ‘Indian dogs go back, ’ but that didn’t discourage us from meet-ing people and I tell you the meeting with people was a wonderful expe-rience. A lot of people termed our visit a futile exercise keeping in view the bitter experiences of past. But I told them we shouldn’t give up just because we have failed in past.”
“During a meeting with a group of people, they asked us to leave as they equivo-cally said that people of Kashmir demand freedom
from India. Despite that we talked to them and appreci-ated their approach. We are conscious of the fact that it (Kashmir) is a difficult task after all it is a 70 year old problem,” Sinha said.
When Sinha said that Pak-istan has been continuously using its soil for terror activi-ties and is not respecting the commitments this country has made with India, a jour-nalist intervened and asked Sinha to flip the question and tell us why India has not been respecting the commit-ments it has made with the people of Kashmir.
Sinha said that possibil-ity of final resolution is
there provided we talk. “Let us start a dialogue based on facts. You present your evi-dences and documents and we will do the same. We will definitely arrive at a solu-tion,” he said. Sinha admit-ted that he met a number of government functionaries in New Delhi after the cul-mination of his first visit but didn’t divulge the informa-tion.
Responding to a query, Yashwant Sinha said that in their report they have under-lined the sentence in brack-ets that ‘Syed Ali Geelani is ready for unconditional dia-logue.’ “We are thinking on that terms and we will and
want that dialogue between Kashmir and India should be unconditional.
Journalists complained that the essence of dialogue vanishes once Indian Par-liamentarians claim that any dialogue is possible only within the four walls of Indian constitution. “We must understand that Indian Constitution is flex-ible and not rigid and it can be changed. There is every possibility of a solution to Kashmir problem,” the member of the delegation Bharat Bhushan said and lamented that Kashmir is not having its own voice in Indian media. CNS
SGEJAC delegation calls on Finance Minister
‘Keep it free from politics’ Srinagar, Dec 14: Employees’ Joint Action Committee (EJAC) president and Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF) chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani today stressed the need for overhauling the school education department and keeping it free from politics as otherwise ‘the whole department will derail forever’
Criticizing the education minis-ter and his OSD for ‘victimizing’ the leaders and activists of the Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF)
only to ‘hide all misdeeds, failures and anti- teacher activities’, Qayoom Wani, in a statement today, said, “The last two years of the education department are a black period for it. The teachers and students were made to suffer during this period.
“The education minister and his lieutenants are hell bent upon to weaken the JKTF but I want to tell them that JKTF is a movement and every teacher in the department is its well-wisher and nobody on earth can weaken or crush this movement.
“The Minister and his agents always tried to disrespect teach-ing fraternity in the name of exam drama, screening test, transfer
melas, super-fifty, tution ban, involvement of NGOs with nefari-ous designs, assigning chowkidari duty to teachers and inducting KAS officers as Joint Directors in the department to kill and disrespect the promotional chances of officers in the department,” Wani said.
He said, “All these dramas proved total failure and both government and private education sectors suf-fered badly. The higher ups of the department are only working on the wrong policies.”
“If the dictatorial attitude of min-isters and his lieutenants could not stop their anti teacher policies, the whole teaching community will hit
the roads and responsibility shall lie on the shoulders of the government,” Wani said, appealing to the chief min-ister to look into these sensitive issues.
Meanwhile, Wani asked the teach-ing community to be ready for any challenge and gear up their units to fight against the conspiracies.
He said, “It is shame for the people at the helm of affairs that teachers under SSA, RMSA, NPS and other schemes are without salaries for last six months.
Wani said, “The private staff of edu-cation minister are functioning like bosses and are humiliating the officers and lecturers in the department only for their petty interests and to weaken teachers moment.”
Jammu, Dec 14: A deputation of State Government Employees Joint Action Committee (SGEJAC) called on Minister for Finance, Labour Employment and Culture, Dr Haseeb Drabu here today and sought implementation of seventh pay commission recommendations.
Besides seeking pay commission recommendations, the delegation also sought removal of pay anomalies, regularization of all daily wagers in all the
departments, release of dislocation allowance, increase in medical allowance, medi-claim policy for non-gazetted employees, restructuring of PSUs, issues related to State Forest Corporation (SFC) and others.
While interacting with the deputation, Dr Drabu assured them that their genuine demands and grievances would be looked into and redressed accordingly. He said the Government is aware of the problems being faced by the employees and these
would be solved in a time bound manner.
The members of the delegation complimented the Minister for ensuring zero pendency of the GP Fund claims and streamlining the functioning of the Funds Department.
The SGEJAC delegation was represented by Spokesperson, Suresh Sharma along with other members including Sushil Sudan, Subhash Verma, Mohammad Farooq, KC Dubey, Yash Magotra, Vijay Gupta and others.

‘Rare nasal surgery at Budgam hospital’Srinagar, Dec 14: The Department of ENT dis-trict hospital Budgam performed a total Septal Reconstruction in a pre-viously operated patient with a total collapse of nasal Dorsum. The recon-struction was done from autologous rib cartilage graft and is the first of its kind in the state, said a statement issued by the
department today. The sur-gery was performed by Dr Shafqat Islam, consultant ENT and Dr Diladhan con-sultant anesthetist.
“The significance of this surgery, which is the ulti-mate in septo-rhinoplasty reconstruction, lies in the fact that virtually any nasal cosmetic deformity and nasal obstruction can be corrected by this proce-
dure,” said the statement. “This is besides more than 250 septo-rhinoplasties which have been conduct-ed in this hospital.”
“For the purposes of patient education and aware-ness among medical col-leagues the procedures have been uploaded on YouTube and can be searched as “Neo-Nose technique”,” said the statement.
