Protestors assembled under the banner of J&K Casual Daily Wagers Forum at PHE subdivi- sion Kothibagh here. Under the leadership of EJAC President Abdul Qayoom Wani and Presi- dent of Daily Wagers Forum Sajad Ahmad Parray they marched towards civil secretar- iat here to press for their demand. However, police contingent deployed at MA Road near Exchange here didn’t allow them to proceed. “After the minor scuffle between police and agi- tating daily wagers, police lathi charged the marchers to dis- perse them,” said eye witnesses. The injured have been iden- tified as Ajaz Ahmad Ahangar, Muzaffar Ahmad, Shabir Ahmad, Latief Ahmad, Sarvar Ahmad, Rizwan Ahmad, Zahoor Ahmad. Gulzar Ahmad, one of the protestors was reportedly critically injured and hospi- talized in SHMS hospital here. Some protestors gave a slip to the police and reached Press Enclave here. Some of them sat on dharna on the MA Road. Chaos and confusion prevailed for some time in the busy residency Road and traffic movement also remained disrupted for a while. Talking to media persons, Wani said that the authorities should regularize the services of daily wagers without any further delay. He said that more than 56000 families are suffering due to the delay caused by authorities. “The promise was made by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah regarding the regularization of Daily Wagers, Casual and Temporary Employees, whose time frame had ended before August, 2014. Till now no deci- sion has been taken by the gov- ernment on the issue,” he said. Expressing resentment over the silence of government, he said that the poor, helpless and starv- ing employees have been repeat- edly lathi charged and detained to deny them their genuine rights. Parray said that they would continue to fight for their right. “The policy was already framed. Sham Lal Sharma was sincere in fulfilling his prom- ise. However some ministers scuttle it,” he said adding that non-regular employees have spent the precious years of their life in serving the government. Later, the protesters sat on a dharna at police sub-division Kothibagh while Wani and Parray rushed to civil secretariat to meet senior government func- tionaries to apprise them about their grievances and the demand. New Delhi, Oct 25: Social activist and Hindu religious scholar Swami Agnivesh today said that the prolonged Amarnath yatra had a role in the unprecedented flood that recently hit the Valley. He said the yatra had adversely impacted the fragile environ- ment in the upper reaches of Valley leading to the melting of the glaciers. Relating Kashmir’s dev- astating floods with the long duration of Amarnath Yatra, social activist and Hindu religious scholar Swami Agnivesh Saturday said that floods hit Kashmir as the Val- ley’s fragile environment was badly affected due to the long duration of Amarnath Yatra. Talking to CNS, Agnivesh said that nobody can deny this fact that Amarnath Yatra has been disturbing the environment of Kashmir and this disruption is one of the reasons for recent floods that ravaged Kashmir valley and hit its economy badly. “Nobody will dare to tell you this, but I am telling you and you must admit this fact that the Amarnath Yatra whose duration was stretched in a planned way is the source of catastrophe for the people of Kashmir,” he said. Agnivesh said the Yatra had no essence and that it had been given importance just to ensure that there is Hindu presence in Kashmir. “Amarnath yatra is a cock- tail. It is the combination of religion and tourism and both the Hindu zealot groups and tourism department want to reap maximum benefits out of it,” he said. He said that if the dura- tion and the number of pil- grims are not reduced, then surely in future the yatra will prove disastrous for Kashmir. He said that lakhs of people are visiting the cave. “The increased human traf- fic is threatening the environ- ment in this fragile ecosys- tem, a major source of water for the Indus River. Scientists are now grappling with how to protect the headwaters of Kashmir Valley,” he said. He said that with lax restrictions on pilgrims, their numbers and with it the trash and contamination. “The snow-capped mountains along the trail are now black with the pollution generated from hundreds of thousands of people. To reach the cave, pilgrims litter the path with piles of garbage, water bottles, gas cylinders, human faeces, and occasional horse car- casses. The increased traffic should worry the conscious citizens of India. Thousands of pilgrims emit radiation at 37 degrees Celsius, whether it is a pilgrim or anybody else. All this encourages the melting of snow and glacier resources in the region,” Agnivesh told CNS. Responding to a question, Agnivesh told CNS that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not allowing international aid for the flood affected people as he feels that India can manage the calamity. “It is the ques- tion of self-respect that bars Modi to disallow interna- tional agencies to aid people of Kashmir,” he said adding that the international aid should be allowed in Kash- mir so that this beautiful valley could be re-build. We must shun politics of hatred and come forward to extend helping hand to our Kashmir brothers and sisters who need help at this critical juncture”.
