SRIVAISHNAVISM Weekly Magazine 10th Anniversary Issue :

    Dear Sri Parthasarathy Swamin,

The 10th year inaugural issue has come with a bang, that means a colourful articles from several leading vidwans and writers. This is very important input to different yahoo group members and reading the same in the net is as good as reading from a printed book itself. I will keep Srimath Andavan also informed, if possible by taking out a print out itself. H.H also will be very much pleased on looking into that. Daasan, R Srinivasan.

    Dear Swamin,

When the First issue was released ,there was no doubt ,this is a well conceived idea.

Also Sri Parthasarathi Swamin ,took the internnet route to publish the same. This enabled ,in the

present day world of I Pad, Smartphone ,Anytime Anywhere available.

Swamin also took pains to spread the birth of Srivaishnavism E Weekly ,in all possible manners

,by Personal e mails,in sampradaya Grups ,Face Book & so on.He is doing this week after week

    since a decade now.

The contents were always balanced with a variety to please all ,keeping their subjects they are

    interested.

The Tenth Annual issue ,which i have just read ,is one that is as interesting as the previous

    issues.

This issue carries the Anugraham H H Srimad Andavan & appreciation by scholars of

    Srivaishnava Sampradayam.

It is to the credit of Sri. Partahasarathy Swamin, has always brought in new Authors regularly

and ensured variety in subjects coverage. One that does not improve periodically, gets decayed is

    a famous saying.

I am very much used to look for articles to improve my knowledge of samparadayam and

benefited in reading the Magazine regularly.

I Wish Sri Parthasarathy Swamin more success in the years to come.

doing a really amazing kaInkaryam. I loved the line where Andavan Swamigal has mentioned that Poigai

adiyan Swami is encouraging youth and next generation by motivating us to write for the magazine.

    Sharadha Srinivasan,

This Magazine has become something of a personal journey for me. The tone of the whole Magazine is

The Srivaishnavam magazine is like a bright lamp which spreads auspiciousness to dispel the

darkness cast by ignorance. We pray to Lord Malolan for the magazine to continue to grow in

order to spread auspiciousness for many many more years to come by casting its divine glow.

We also pray to Lord Malolan to bless Sri Poigaiadian Swami who nurtures and maintains the

magazine with great care for the benefit of people like us.

    Acharyan Thiruvadigale Saranam.

    Namo Narayanaya.

Smt Vijayalakshmi Sundaram and Srinivasan Sundaram.

    Nadi, Nadi Hi Geethmala,

Saw your article in the Magazine and the letter written by you to the Editor. I am a living

example of your article as each and every incident you write has been witnessed/discussed

by/with me. My true wish is that person will come back to you with a sorry, till such time do not

feel for anything let your noble work continue.

    Raji

    Akshaya Thrithi.

Akshaya means never diminishing. Many things happened on this day: Draupadi was given Akshaya

Patra (bowl) by Krishna which supplied unlimited food; Kubera, treasurer of gods, prayed to Lakshmi,

goddess of wealth, to fill his treasury; Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu, was born; Satya

yuga ended and Treta yuga began; the Ganga descended from Heaven; Ved Vyasa and Ganesha began

writing the epic Mahabharata; and Sudama, the poor friend of Krishna, came to Dwarka to ask for help.

In return for a handful of beaten rice, Krishna gave immense wealth to Sudama. Gates of the

Badrinarayana temple open on this day. Construction of chariots for the Jagannath rath yatra at Puri

commences. Jains observe fast and break it with sugarcane juice as king-turned-monk Rishabhdeva was

offered sugarcane juice after an year-long fast. So the belief is that worshipping Lakshmi-Kubera, buying

gold and silver ornaments, investing money in shares and real estate, buying household things,

ploughing land, writing new account books will all bring prosperity.

Each second of Akshaya Tritiya is auspicious. This is the time to put in our best to get eternal benefits. It

is also believed that the birth of universe, the earth, the birth of bramha vishnu n shiva n their marriage

is believed to be on this day. So guys a very happy Akhshya Thiritiya to all of you .

    SRIVAISHNAVISM

    From the Desk of Dr.Sadagopan.

    || A Tribute to NammAzhwAr on His VaikAsi VisAkam birthday ||

Sriman MadhavakkaNNan's wonderful article today on the ThiruvenakatamudayAn's Paasuram , AhalahillEn --, is the most fitting tribute to the glories of the Lord of Seven Hills on our Kulapathi's birthday . What a coincidence or AzhwAr's sankEtham for Sri MadhavakkaNNan that this special paaasuram dealing with Dvaya Manthram moved onto the Center stage on the day of days , AzhwAr's birthday ! The sincere Kaimkaryam performed by our Sri MadhavakkaNNan seems to have its own rewards. It is wonderful to read these soulful postings from Simhapuri.

Sri Murali Rangaswamy's tribute to AzhwAr and Saama Vedam transforming into Thiruvaimozhi added to today's special celebrations.

I would like to share with you the PurvAchAryA's commentary on this most important paasuram on ThiruvenakatamudayAn and add some additional thoughts . The two Saranagathi pasurams addressed to Sri Oppiliappan (Yennappan yenakkAiyuhuLAi--) and Sri VenkatEsan ( AhalahillEn --) are the two most important paasurams to me in the entire Thiruvaimozhi .

I will summarize what I have learnt from the commentaries of PurvAchAryAs , the Navaneetham Family ( Navaneetham Sri KrishnamAcchAr Swamy , Dr. VedAntha Desikan , Sri Gopala Desikan ) , UttamUr Swamy and PrathivAthi Bhayankaram AnnamAcchAr Swamy . One can not write enough about these great paasurams of NammAzhwAr .Naatha Muni was initiated by NammAzhwAr Himself into this Paasuram. His grandson, ALavandAr captured the essence of this Paasuram in his SthOthra Rathnam slOkams. His great grand disciple, AchArya RaamAnujA enshrined the spirit of this paasuram in his SaraNAgathi Gadhyam. Swami Desikan and other AchAryAs elaborated on this paasuram to offer their tributes to our Sri VaishNava SampradhAyam in an endearing/enduring manner.

  • 12

    AhalahillEn Paasuram ********************

In the first decad of Thiruvaimozhi , AzhwAr points out that Sriman NaarAyaNan is upAyam ; the second decad focuses on the athibhOgyam (most delectable) aspects of the Lord ; the third decad shows that the Lord has divya mangaLa Vigraham ; the fourth decad asserts that the Lord is the most superior means for moksham ; in the sixth decad , AzhwAr performs SaraNAgathi to ThiruvenaktamudayAN with his AhalahillEn paasuram :

ahalahillEn iRayum yenRalarmEl MangaiuRai maarbA ! niharil puhazhAi ! ulahamUnrudayAi ! yennai aLvAnE ! niharil amarar munikkaNangaL virumbhum ThiruvEnkatatthAnE puhalonRillA adiyEn unn adikkeezhamarnthu puhunthEnE

The above paasuram is the tenth in this decad. Through the preceding nine paasurmas, NammAzhwAr completed the five angAs of SaraNAgathi and in the tenth, he performed the actual SaraNAgathi at the Lotus feet of the SarvalOka SaraNyan at Thirumalai. In the earlier decad, he cried soulfully: koovikkoLLum kaalam innam kuruhAthO ? ( Will not that time to call me to Your sacred feet come very soon ? ) . He had great aarthi (longing) for reaching the cool shade of Lord's holy feet to escape from the scorching heat of SamsAram . He had no patience for krama prApthi . He introduced himself as " terithal ninaithal yeNNalAhAt thirumAlukku uriya thondar thondar thondan SatakOpan " ( that he is the servant of the servant of the servant of Sriya: pathi, whose glories are beyond the comprehension through either acquired knowledge , manthra japam or dhyaanam ).

AzhwAr had great dvarai ( urgency ) and acute longing to rest at the Lord's cool feet . He recognized that it was not enough just to have the longing . He had to perform an anushtAnam to realize the fruit of that longing . He chose the UpAyam of Prapatthi . He recognized that Prapatthi to the ArchA murthy is the better upAyam than Prapatthi to other forms of the Lord such as Param , VyUham , Vibhavam and AntharyAmi . He concluded next the performance of Prapatthi to the ArchAmUrthy standing on top of Venakata Giri. This is the sequence of happenings starting from the first paasuram ," Ulahamunda peruvAyA --" to " ahalahillEn --" .

Swami Desikan's description of the ten paasurams **********************************************

In Taatparya RathnAvaLi, Swami Desikan captures in his inimitable style the essence of these 10 paasurams dealing with SaraNAgathi at the sacred feet of the Lord of the seven hills . He concludes that Azhwar assessed that Sri VenkatEsan is the most appropriate one to receive his saraNAgathi and then performed it.

The last two lines of this summary of Swami Desikan is as follows:

prApyA prApyathva yogAth svajana vijanayO: sath prapatthavya bhaavAth uchE naatham SaraNyam sruthisatha vidhitham VenkatEsam SatAri :

The last line describes NammAzhwAr performing SaraNAgathi to his Lord VenakatEsan , who is understood well by the VedAs . The first line refers to his being near to His BhakthAs and AsrithAs ( svajana prApyathvAth ) and being far away from bhaktha dhvEshis ( vijana aprApyathvAth ). References here are to the Paasura vAkyams: vandhAy pOl vArAyi and vandhAyi polE vArAthAi "

Finally , Swami Desikan connects " AhalahillEn " part of the paasurem with "Sath prapatthavya bhAvAth ". He salutes the Vaatsalya , SwAmithva, Souseelya , SoulabhyAdhi guNams of Periya Piratti that are shared by Her Lord equally and Her purushaakAram ( merciful intercession quality/sipArsu to Her Lord ) and performs the SaraNAgathi to the Sruthi satha vidhitha VenkatEsan , who is prapadhana sulabhan (easy of access for Prapatthi ) . We started this series of postings on the Isvara Vaikaasi Visaakam day, which has been celebrated by Sri MaaNavALa MaamunigaL as " Vedam Tamizh seytha meyyan yezhil Kuruhai Naathan avatharittha nALL " . VaikAsi VisAkam day is indeed the day devoted to saluting the Master of the beautiful Thirukkuruhai , who transformed the rigorous Sanskritic VedAs in to DrAvida BhAshai . It is very appropriate that MaNavALa MaamunigaL goes on to wonder:

  • 13

uNdO vaikAsi VisAkatthuk koppuru nALL ? ( Is there any auspicious day that matches the glory of the VaikAsi VisAkam day ? No.)

uNdO SatakOparkkopporuvAr ? ( Is there anyone that can match the illustrious glory of our Kulapathi, NammAzhwAr ? No. )

uNdO ThiruvAimozhikkoppu ? ( is there any divya prabhandham that can match the magnificience of ThiruvAimozhi ? None )

tenn KuruhaikkundO oru paar tanil okkumUr ? ( are there any divya desams that match the auspiciousness of ThirukkuruhUr that gave birth to our Kulapathi ? No ).

These rhetorical inquiry and the answers implicit in these questions soundly establish the utter sacredness and the extraordinary bhakthi yogam of NammAzhwAr that culminated in the performance of his SaraNAgathi at the lotus feet of ThiruvenkatamudayAn , which are covered up to His ankles with the most fragrant flowers used by the DevAs during their aarAdhanams . At this divya desam linked with the charama SlOkam and saraNAgathi , AzhwAr elected appropriately to perform his SaraNAgathi .

At the Thirumalai divyadesam , AzhwAr showed us what is hEyam ( that to be detested and pushes aside ) and what is upAdhEyam ( that to be desired and welcomed ) . He had been discussing earlier as to what is thyAjyam ( to be abandoned ) and what is upAdhEyam( to be acquired) . He repeatedly explained to us that being engaged in worldly pleasures and siRRinbam is paramAvathi dukkham ( the limit of sorrows ).

He instructed us that the engagement in kshudhra vishaya laabham (gains realized from engagement in lowly and alpa vishayams) only produces klEsam (anxiety and loss of tranquility). The arrogance that comes from pursuit of paltry activities leads to a state (gharvam) that stands in the way of enjoying "anthamil pErinbham " , which is the charamAvathi Sukham ( end limit of aanandham ) arising from being part of a bhAgavatha ghOshti engaged in bhagavad guNAnubhavam. That is niradhisayAnandha hEthu , which is just the opposite of anantha klEsa hEthu .

As a result of the ascendance of the RajO and TamO guNams , the samsAri develops the five fold ajn~Anam that NammAzhwAr instructed us to stay away from:

    " maranthEn unnai munnam " --ParasvarUpa ajn~Anam

" yAnE yennai aRihilAthE "-- aathma svarUpa ajn~Anam

" Odiyum uzhanRum uyirkaLE konREn uNarvilEn "--VirOdhi vishaya ajn~Anam

" piRavi nOy aRuppAnEaNilEn irunthEn " --upAya Vishaya ajn~Anam

" aazhiangankai ammAnai yEtthaathu ayartthu " -- PurushArtha vishaya ajn~Anam

    These five ajn~Anams ( Jn~Athavya pancha ajn~nams ) made the aathmA forget the Lord ( maRanthEn ) .

After overcoming this five fold ajn~Anam thru the development of Jn~Athavya panchaka jn~Anam as instructed by the seeker of mOksham , one attains nirasthAdhisaya aahlAdha sukha bhAvam ( anthamil pErinbham or limitless joy and tranquliity ) . AzhwAr himself alludes to the acquisition of the five types of Jn~Anams this way in his paasurams :

" ninnai nenjil uyuum vahai uNarnthEn "-- Para svarUpa JN~Anam

" ninRa onRai uNarnthEnukku " --aathma svarUpa jn~nam

  • 14

" ahaRRa nee vaittha mAyavallai eimpulangaLAmavai nankaRinthanan "-- VirOdhi Vishaya Jn~Anam

" avanatharuLAlural poruttu yenn uNarvin uLLE irutthinEn "-- upAya Vishaya Jn~Anam

" aam parisu aRinthukondu "-- PurushArtha vishaya Jn~Anam

The acquisition of these pentad of Jn~Anam led to the niradhisAyanandham . As Azhagiya MaNavALa PerumAL NaayanAr summarized for our benefit in his AchArya Hrudhaya Saara sUthram , " karma krupA bheejam poy ninRa aruL purintha yenkira avidyA souhArthangaL " . Karma bheejam is the avidhyai ( poy ninRa-rooted in untruth); KrupA bheejam is the souhArtham ( aruL purintha blessings resulting from the Lord's grace) .Our Lord is the mUlam for both the karma and krupA bheejams .When the aathmA realizes and declares its ancient and timeless NaarAyaNa sambhandham ("adiyEn adainthEn muthal munnamE"), the krupA bheejam and the SouhArtham come into play. This NaarAyaNa sambhandham is the opposite of achith sambhandham that immerses one in avidhyA and samsAram with anAthi klEsam . Artha panchaka jn~Anam leads to satthva guNa pUrthi (perfection of satthva guNam ) and ends up in the anubhavam of mOksha sukham .

NammAzhwAr was like the thousand-rayed Aadithyan thru his thiruvAimozhi upadEsam . His avathAram has been saluted as the VakuLa bhUshaNa bhaskarOdhayam ( the Sun rise with the fragrance of VakuLA blossoms adorning him ). He is the BhAskaran and yet differs from the regular DivAkara-Bhaskaran in that the latter can only remove the external darkness ; the VakuLa BhUshaNa bhAskaran however removes both the inner and the outter darkness ( ajn~Anam).

His love for the SaraNyan was sahajam (natural) as he himself pointed out :" tazhuvi ninRa kaathal tannAl " . It has been compared to the inseparable parimaLam of thirut thuzhAi . His bhakthi was not one that was earned or granted as a boon . It was of the sahajaa variety or that was intrinsic to him from the jaayamAna katAksham . This is the krishi palam ( the fruit of the harvest of the Lord ) of BhagavAn . That is the entire outcome of the nirhEthuka krupA of the Lord ( ThirumAlirum chOlai malai yenRennat ThirumAlvandhu yenn nenju niRayap puhunthAn ). The most merciful Lord ( " aaRa nalvahai kAttum ammAn " ) grew the Jn~Anam of the AzhwAr by union with him and increased the bhakthi of the AzhwAr by separation from him ( samslEsham-VislEsham: kalavi and pirivu ) . The experience of the AzhwAr thru these avasthAs (modalities of anubhavams of union and separation) has been compared by the AchArya Hrudhaya suthrakAraar as being similar to the experience of SithAp Piraatti in Srimadh RaamAyaNam .

Experiencing the heights of aanandham during the Union with the Lord and suffering profoundly from the separation from Him , AzhwAr celebrated the guNa pUrthi of the Lord blessing him at each of the divya desams . He pointed out to us that Archaavatharam witnesses the guNa pUrthi ( the perfection of the auspicous atributes of the Lord reaches its pinnacle in Archai in contrast to the other four states of His existence ) . He arrived at Thirumalai and declared that ThiruvEnkata KshEthram is the treasure for both the humans and the celestials ( TaNNaruvi VEnkatamE vAnOrkkum MaNNOrkkum vaippu ) . He saluted the Lord as " niharil puhazhAi " with great vaatsalyam .He revealedthat the DayAsindhu at Thirumalai is the father , mother and the sustaining force for times past , present and future (pOhinRa kaalangaL pOya kaalangaL pOhu kaalangaL thAi Tanthai uyir aahinRaai). He gratefully acknowledged the unique vaathsalyam of the Lord of Thirumalai and saluted Him as " Yenkat paasam vaittha Paramsudar chothi "and " Niharil puhazhAi ThiruvEnakatatthu EmperumAnE " .

AzhwAr then performed his dheerga SaraNAgathi at Thirumalai in his "ahalahillEn" paasuram. SaraNAgathi has been described as the ealboration (vivaraNam) of the essence of dhvayam (DhvyArtha VivaraNam) by Sri PiLLai LOkAcchAr in his work revered as "Saara sangraham " . This SaraNAgathi led to the state of " avidhyA nivarthaka, jn~Ana pUrthi pratha , Bhagaavth prasAdhOthitha Moksha lAbham ". In the next posting , we will go deeper into the word by word meaning of the AhalahillEn Paasuram as per our pUrvAchAryAs .

    DHARMA STHOTHRAM

    Part 210.

Paanah,Pranadah,Pranavah In srimad Bagavad Geetha , Sri Krishna suggests eight directions to hold our mind in meditation. When the mind is held in these directions, it is in meditation ready for the descent of the experience divine fully alert to receive intimations from the Supreme consciousness divine. In 8.89 and 8.10 slokas, Sri Krishna says for all these eight aspects as one should meditate upon the Supreme person They are 1.He is one who knows everything ,2. He is one who is the oldest,3. He is one who is the controller, 4. He is one who is smaller than the smallest,5 He is one who is maintainer of everything,6 He is one who is beyond all material conception ,7. He is one who is inconceivable, and 8. He is one who is always a Supreme person. Hence Sriman Narayana is said as omniscient, most ancient, over ruler, subtler than subtlest, sustainer, inconceivable form, self-luminous, and beyond all Maya. In order to be meditation in perfect and efficient six needed activities are also said in Gita 8.12 and 8.13 slokas. They are controlling all sense organs, confining the mind in the heart, drawing the prana into head occupied in concentration, uttering OM Namo Narayana and constantly remembering Him. Uttering OM is said to be a steady exercise in contemplation to the intellect .the continuous rememberance of Sriman Narayana in Nama sankeerthanam is an engaging exercise for the mind and its emotions. Thus divine namas are ever praised right from Gita. Now on Dharma Sthothram which has pranavah nama OHMkara in 409 and other earlier two namas in this part.

  • 39

    In 407th

nama Paanah it is meant as One who is in the form of Praana exits in the body, propels all sense organs to act in their appointed fields, In Sri Vishnu Purana it is said Sriman Narayana activates the body as the 5 praanas and acts as Life breath and life giver. He is in the form of Kshetragna, who functions as vital force called prana. He bestows all with a life. In Thiruvaimozhi 6.10.1 Ulagamunda peruvaya , Nammazhwar says as Adiyen aaruyire .Adiyen , is a humble word of Sri Vaishnavites indicating all jeevathmas and AAruyire is indicating Sriman Narayana paramathma, who is life breathe of jeevathmas. While worshiping Sri Srinivasa in Tirumala hills ,Azhwar says HE is having a big mouth to eat the entire universe during deluge period, and He is with everlasting fame and is prana for all beings. In 8.1 5 pasuram as aar uyireyo also informs that He is one who creates all, and save all in the days of deluge and ever present as life breathe. Hence this nama paanah is vital one for all. In 408

th nama Praanadah, it is meant as one who gives Praana or as one who takes away

Praana. As said in above Thiruvaimozhi pasuram ,Sriman Narayana is the supreme who gives Praana to all creatures in the beginning of the creation, and He alone is again the one who destroys all the Praanaas (movements) at the time of the dissolution. It is said during Sri Ramas leaving from Ayodhya, all the trees wilted. Also as He was possessing all good qualities and characters, He moved the hearts of all the people whenever He leaves any particular place. In Srimad Ramayanam we observe Sri Rama showing His human qualities in a degree which so far from interfering with our adoration and worship of Him. This only make us love him the more dearly regard him as closely bound with us, as also one through whose example we may be enabled in ever so humble a measure to rise above ourselves. Thus Sriman Narayana in all incarnations save us in many forms and impart a moral by creating some jeevathmas and then taking away from us .Thus He is called as Praanadah . In 409 th nama Pranavah it is meant as one which is praised ,adorned and prayed Sriman Narayana. In Vedas Pranavah is said as the symbol OM. The supreme soul Paramathma is said as Omkaara and sriman Narayana. Pranava manthram is said to be OMthe most powerful word ,also as a symbol of the supreme God. Pravanava is meant as one which pervades life. In meditation this is used before uttering divine namas, as Om Achyutaya, om Anathayaa, Om Kesavaya ,Om Narayanaya. Om is also considered as highly natural, highly potential, because in chanting one can identify special effect. The sound from this OM causes peace and harmony throughout. The words we assign for Sriman Narayana as omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent are all starting with this OM only. Among the sacred mantras or holy words, the monosyllabic word OM is the most ancient and the most followed important one. This holy syllable signifying Sriman Narayana has been frequently quoted in all vedas and other puranas. OM or AUM stands for three activities of Creation, preservation and destruction. This pranva symbol suits Sriman Narayana as He does all the three jobs with Brahma, Vishnu, and Siva as organisers in three lokas Swarga, martya, pathala (heaven, Earth, nether world ). Similar to this pranavah nama, there are namas as prana in 66,320,407 Pranajeevana in 962, prananilaya in 321, pranabruth in 961, pranadah in 65,321,408,956.Hence this pranavah is ever praiseworthy.

Ladies I am on your side now, said Nappinnai Piratti as she opened the doors. I will represent you and

lead you along the right path to attain Lord Krishna. To start with dont call Him as Krishna or as the

Supreme Being. Eulogize Him as the son of Nanda Gopan.

Why is it better to call Him as the son of Nanda Gopan?

After the Ramayana war when Sita Piratti entered the fire, Lord Agni returned with Sita Piratti and asked

lord Rama to accept her. All the celestials gathered in the court. Kubera the King of Yakshas, Yama the

lord of death together with the deceased ancestors, Indra the lord of celestials, Varuna the lord of waters,

  • 47

the illustrious Lord Shiva with three eyes and a bull on his banner, Brahma the creator of all the worlds

and the best among the knowers of sacred knowledge approached Lord Rama. Lord Brahma as the

foremost among all the jeevatmas represented all the Celestial Beings and addressed the Lord. Lord

Brahma said that, Lord Rama you are the maker of the entire cosmos, the foremost among those

endowed with knowledge. You are the most capable person. You are the foremost among the troop of

gods. You are the Vasu, named Ritadhama (one whose abode is Truth or the Divine Law) among the

Vasus (a class of gods, eight in number), You are the self-constituted ruler, the first creator of all the

worlds, you are the lord of all beings, You are the eighth Rudra among (eleven) Rudras and the fifth

Sadhya called as Viryavan among the Sadhyas (a particular class of celestials belonging to Gana

    Devata).

The twin Aswini devathas are your ears. The sun and the moon constitute your eyes. O the destroyer of

the adversaries, You are seen (to exist) at the beginning and at the end of creation. You are the Supreme

Being and yet you ignore Sita Piratti just like a common man."

As soon as Lord Rama listened to Lord Brahmas words , He replied that, aatmaanam maanuSham

manye raamam dasharathaatmajam. saH aham yasya tat yashcha aham bhagavaan braviitu me if you

must eulogize me, eulogize me as the son of Dasaratha!

Ladies, why do you think the Lord said so? asked Piratti.

Was it because He forgot that He is Perumal?

How can Perumal suffer from forgetfulness? asked Nappinnai Piratti, dont forget that He as Lord Rama

granted Moksham to Jatayu. He couldnt have done this if He had forgotten His true nature. Sage

Vishwamithra also saw Him reclined on Adisesha in the forest!

Then why did He make such a statement?

  • 48

He asked Lord Brahma to praise Him as the son of Dasaratha as these words glorify Him for coming

down to earth for the sake of saving the Celestial Beings! Lord Rama said that , I have come down to

earth as the son of Dasaratha for your sake hence start eulogizing me by calling me as the son of

Dasaratha! If you have understood that I have incarnated for your sake, you would have praised me as

the son of Dasaratha. I keep incarnating to uplift everyone to moksham. If I never incarnated, you will

never know me. You see me now because I have come down as Rama. As my swaroopam is spread

everywhere and I have countless number of divine qualities you are unable to see me unless I incarnate.

Every incarnation I take increases my glories while every birth you take decreases your glory. Therefore

start praising me for incarnating as the son of Dasaratha for your benefit!

Now do you understand why we should praise Lord Krishna as the son of Nanda Gopan?

Yes we understand now, answered the girls, we see Him as Krishna because He has incarnated as

Nanda Gopans son Krishna in order to interact with us and uplift us to moksham!

Piratti represented the girls and addressed Lord Krishna, Oh son of Nanda Gopalan, your father Nanda

Gopalan is a very rich man. He owns countless number of cows just like you have countless number of

divine qualities and like us having countless number of flaws. Each of your fathers cows showers milk

without even being milked. As soon as a vessel is placed under their udder, they rain milk to fill the

vessel. Why havent you learnt to shower your compassionate grace on us like your fathers cows? You

should shower your grace on us without us having to plead for it but instead you make us wait outside

your door crying to have your grace fall on us!

Nappinnai Pirattis next few words provide us with the instruction to approach Perumal. She said, Like

your enemies who fall at your feet seeking your pardon, we have fallen at your feet! We are similar to

your enemies because we were overcome by false ego. We have now realized that our wish will be

fulfilled only if it is per your sankalpam. We wandered everywhere seeking refuge until we realized that

you are the only refuge. We realize your glory and supremacy therefore please accept us! We have

abandoned our ahamkaram and mamakaram and have finally realized that we depend on you. We are

not independent as we are supported by you at all times.

    Alternate Meaning:

This pasuram describes a sadacharyan. A sadacharyan has many well trained disciples. Swami

Ramanujar had 74 disciples who became the 74 simhasapadhis and Swami was always followed

everywhere by 700 Sanyasis. A sadacharyan clears doubts immediately. If a disciple asked one doubt, a

sadacharyan clears that doubt while also clearing many such doubts that the disciple hasnt asked yet. A

sadacharyan instructs a disciple without expecting any sambhavanai from the disciple. A sadacharyan is

    dedicated to uplift us.

Thus this pasuram also shows us how to approach a sadacharyan for instruction after we have

    abandoned our false ego.

T.NARSIPUR TWENTY SIXTH VERSE OF PEY AZHWAAR SIRANDAVEN CHINTAIYUM SENKANARAVUM NIRAINDHA SEER NEEL KACCHIYULLUM--URAINDHATHUVUM VENKATAMUM VEHAAVUM VELUKKAIPAATIYUMEH TAANKATAVAAR TANDHUZHAAYAAR Here Pey Azhwaar continues to describe his supremely delectable experience of Paripurna Saakshatkaram of the divine couple, which blossomed forth from his supreme Para Jnanam and focuses on his anubhavam of the Archa Murthys. He identifies the three divya desams -- Attigiri (Kanchi), Thiruvenkatam and ThiruvELukkai-- as the sacred places, which the Lord wearing the cool Tulasi garlands blesses by His presence. The Azhwaar says that the Archa Murthys of these three divya desams have not moved away from his mind or from the proximity of the red-eyed Adiseshan even for a moment. The azhwaar says my mind like the bed of Adisesha is an eternal place of residence for the Lord of ThiruvELukkai Paadi. The word Paadi that we see at the end of ThirukkavaLampaadi and ThiruvELukkai Paadi as in this pasuram refers to a town. Courtesy : http://www.sundarasimham.org/ebooks/ebook8.htm Sri KaamAseekAshtaka StOtram The Parapethagar of the temple Sri Narayan Iyengar told the Stala puranam. Gunja Narasimha Swamy is Udbhava murthy . In those days there was no temple , He says temple is more than 1000 years old. It was a jungle. The river Cauvery , Kapila and gupta vahini flows. Hence it is It is known as Thirumalakoodu Narasipur (in short T.Narsipur). A washer man had a dream and Lord Lakshmin narasimhan appeared in dream and told that he is in a Ant hill and asked the washer man to take him out and build a temple for him. Then our washer man tells Lord that He is poor man who washes everybody's clothes and leads a contended life, and for building the temple he requires a huge amount of money. How he will construct the temple,For that our Karuna murthy tells that please go and look beneath the washing stone you will find the large amount of treasure.

A View of Gunjanarasimhaswamy temple from the confluence point of the Kaveri and Kabini

    Rivers,T.Narsipur

Then our washer man goes and lifts the stone and behold he gets a Hidden treasure. Then with that money as instructed by the perumal he builds a temple Garbhagudi, Then Swami asks what he wants in return for having built the temples. Then our Washer man tells in those days after taking birth as human being it is one life time ambition to visit Kashi. Then Swami tells this Kshetram will be known as Daskshina Kashi and the Puniya will be one Gunji ( a measurement in olden days) more than Uttara Kashi ( Since Swami told this Kshetram is having Puniya of One Gunji More hence he got the name GUNJA NARASIMHA SWAMI). How Ganga Yamuna And Saraswathi flows in North here in south at Thirumalakoodu Narasipur Kaveri Kapila and Spatika Sarovara flows and like Saraswathi in north Spatika Sarovara is Gupta Gamini the River which is in flowing in front of temple is Kapila it comes from Kerala, Then on the other side is Kaveri which comes from Tala Kaveri in the middle is Spatika Sarovara and since the river bed is closed the Idekam is Spatika Sarovara flows beneath and all the three river join here hence this is known as Thirumalakoodu. Then the Washer man asked for Moksha Pradhana , and since Lord Maha Vishnu is only giver of Moksha , the washer man get it. In the Nelapadi of Main Sacred Santorum the figure of Washer man and his wife is carved because he prayed Sriman Narayana that all the Bhaktha s legs dust should fall on him. Then later on the Mogur Pallegara did Perumal Kainkaryam. Then Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar built Praharam etc.

    RIVAISHNAVISM

    Ivargal Ti ruvaakku.

Greatness of Truth The very first verse of the Bhagavata Purana hails the greatness of Truth. The Almighty is Truth and the message is that God and the values of life are synonymous. The only Truth is the Supreme Brahman, who incarnates time and again to protect those who are truthful, establishes the eternal value of Truth against all misconceptions and wrong assumptions on the values of life.

In the Ramayana, Lord Rama gives a sermon on Truth as a sharp repartee to the atheistic views of Jabali couched in specious arguments that sound seemingly rational, pointed out Srimati Prema Pandurang in a lecture. Jabali had made it appear that Rama's going back to Ayodhya to rule would be the most apt thing to do now since Dasaratha, who banished Rama to the forest, is himself no more. Rama affirms that Truth is God and all virtues follow Truth. The essence of kingship is Truth and, in fact, the world is established in Truth, He says. Rama being committed to Truth is keen to fulfil the command of his father who is a devotee of Truth.

In the case of Prahlada, the child is so realised that he experiences the Truth of God as the very reality. This is not easily attained by even those in the spiritual path. The child did not doubt the truth in the saying that the Supreme Lord is all-pervading, all-knowing and all-powerful and with this steadfast faith withstood all the threats and dangers that were thrust on him by his own father. The Lord made true the words of His Bhakta and incarnated in the most astonishing of forms, one that was neither a man nor a lion.

Harishchandra could have escaped those traumatic moments in his life and lived happily with his wife and child if only he did not have such respect for Truth which he felt he was bound to uphold at all costs. He never went back on his word and never uttered a lie in his lifetime. He stood as a picture of duty at the crematorium before his wife and dead son. He became a symbol of courage.

The celestials praised the Lord in the womb of Devaki as the very essence of Truth. You are the source of all Truth, you pervade all Truth and we offer our surrender to You.
