Letter To .

The Editor Dear Editor:

on this 2nd biggest holiday of the year for Uncoln County, and the biggest boUday of the year for Capitan? It is my \Dlderstanding that he is taking an lDltimely vacation In Colorado or Is he discreetly shirking duty as chief law enforcement officer ol the county.

Are the taxpaying citizens of Lincoln County aware that there is no sheriff or undersheriff available during this potentially critical holiday and that operations of the sheriff's department are being run by the judgement of e(lch individual deputy?

Are the taxpayers a ware tba t Sheriff Elliot! is seemingly doing what he does best -avoiding any problems or confrontations which might arise in the line of duty or might not 'be politically advantageous?

I find it almost unbelleveable that • h . .

Sheriff Elliott would make himself \DlavaUable on a holiday weekend of thlil magnitude In light o£ the pasl ·occurences on major liolidays. Will he be conveniently on vacation, in the hospital or out of town on Labor Day weekend If and when outlaw motorcycle gangs or other unfortunate circumstances besiege us?

I Sincerely hOpe your readers will consider the credibility of the above as one citizen to another not as a political oJam from one candidate to another.

In Jet Deck Stakes RUIDOSO DOWNS,N.M.-Go Go

Qlokle, a 1:1-1 outsider, made It look easy while upsettuig her competition in Saturday's renewal of the •-Jet Deck States at Ruidoso Downs.

The filly, ridden by Jerry Nicodemus out of the rail post, broke alertly In· the 440-yard "dash and was near the lead In the early going.

The 2-1 favorite, Loma Vista Man, also packed a Jot of early zip and looked like a strong threat as he Dashed over the first 100 yards. But at the mid-way point, he began to tire under his stiff load of 124 pounda and slumped Into the pack.
