WHAT’S THE BIG STORY THIS YEAR AND WHY?Heida: Copson St. A group of laid back, loose styles—with roots inskateboarding. David: The seed was planted when team rider and skateboarder Maria Falbo joined the FW09-10 Nikita Streetwear photoshoot in Berlin. Later during fashion studies at university she interned at Nikita in Reykjavik and since living in London, created the Copson Street blog in 2009.

HOW IS NIKITA DIFFERENT FROM FAST FASHION BRANDS?H: We spend every moment on the Nikita Girl. We love her…(smiles) And we think quirky is sexy. D: The Nikita Girl has our absolute and undivided attention, that’s a totally different design space than filling racks with disposable clothes.

WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION FOR THE COLLECTION? H: To feel what summer is all about wherever you are; optimistic and ready for the flow. D: It’s Jucier…(laughs).

WHAT OTHER STORIES ARE WITHIN THIS YEARS’ COLLECTION?H: Sand City – Which has a nice little hit of edgy, grunge.D: And then there’s Drift – which is sort of young, fresh and bright. Secondarily, to tie everything together between all the collections, we’ve created the Essentials, which are pieces that kind of live everywhere in your wardrobe.H: The final Collection is something completely new for us, Nikita Life. One day we looked around and thought, “Why does our Girl need to change her brand, when she changes her activity?”D: Nikita Life is a new line and new way of thinking about the Nikita Girl. In our daily lives we are all practicing life, being healthy in mind and body and taking care of ourselves. We want our girl to have everything she needs for going from surfing, skating or snowboarding and into Yoga, being active and staying healthy.

A two part photoshoot took us on a journey from cityscape to coast, encompassing the feel and spirit of the Nikita collection. In London we met Copson Streetcollaborator Maria Falbo to shoot the capsule collection with Icelandic photographer Saga Sig, before soaring through the skies to France to join our other Icelandic snapper Esther Ír and the rest of the crew, some of who travelled with us between countries. Thanks to old friends and new faces.
