Recent weeks have given us proof enough that the World isexperiencing climate change. The unprecedented flooding in theNorth of England during the Christmas period was even more

extreme than the flooding we saw less than two years ago along theThames Valley. Both were small beer when compared with the energyunleashed by the exceptional weather systems in the Southern USA,which at the turn of the year killed over 50 people. Clearly, what werepreviously classified as ‘once in a century’ situations now need to bethought of as ‘once in a decade’ (or less) situations.

But although the effect of climate change is clear and undeniable, its cause (orcauses?) remains contentious. Scientists appear to be divided into 2 camps: those who claim

that climate change is entirely man-made (probably themajority), and those who are not convinced and look forwider explanations. The divide is becoming increasinglyembittered as the former increasingly brand the latter as‘climate-change denyers’, echoing (intentionally one suspects)

a sort of ‘holocaust denyers’ accusation. Yet the ‘true believers’ in the man-made climatechange camp – the ‘climate crusaders’ if you will – have sometimes taken extreme steps tofurther their cause by distorting or misrepresenting the supporting science.

Although my earlier education was centred largely on science subjects, it has long beenapparent to me (as a keen student of history) that over the centuries scientists have thoughtthat they knew far more about the World than they actually did. From my perspective, claimsthat climate change is entirely man-made are not so much balanced appreciations of the truesituation, as attempts to situate a prior appreciation. In other words, ‘climate crusaders’ havebeen prone to search for the evidence that supports their preferred theory, discarding asirrelevant anything that does not. Moreover, they not only seek to enforce measures to haltclimate change, but also reverse the changes that have already taken place. Such attempts tore-engineer the planet’s climate seem to be not only very doubtful and dubious, but also verydangerous, given science’s imperfect understanding of the World.

But although the ‘climate-crusaders’’ rationale can be challenged, and their methods seemsometimes dubious and occasionally dangerous, they nevertheless have an important elementof right on their side. The planet needs to be looked after, if only on the grounds of ‘goodhousekeeping’. And on that basis we ought to do all we can to cut down waste and pollutionin all their many forms. And at heart, that means cutting down consumption: not an easy stepgiven our consumerist, capitalist society, which seems only able to survive on a diet of constantexpansion.

God has given us a wonderful world, and it would be the supreme folly not to take care ofit. So as Spring begins to break forth, and the beauty of nature is once again revealed to us inits full splendour, we need to act. At an individual level, our responses to climate changeshould be one of ‘moderation in all things’. Moderation in change: both the rate and theextent of change, so that people can adapt and don’t give up prematurely. Moderation in howwe treat the planet: so that we always ere to the careful, gentle and sympathetic. And –underpinning it all – moderation in consumption. ‘A little bit of what you fancy’ not only doesyou good but also does the planet good. In contrast, excess in any form (in theories and ideasincluded) is harmful, to ourselves, to each other and ultimately to the planet.

Ihave to admit that February is not my favourite month – give me May orJune any time. For me the key problem is that February comes right inthe heart of winter when the days are dark and the nights are long – it

can seem a very ‘raw’ time of year when the gloss and warmth of Christmashave become a distant memory and the joys of the New Year have passed.

I’m not alone in this viewpoint: February has been called the ‘Pluto of the months’ becauseit is so dark and dismal; others have pointed out it is the hardest to spell! Some have said thatthe only saving grace of February is that it is a short month (only 28 or 29 days long) leading tothe suggestion that it is removed from the calendar altogether, and January made 59 (or 60)days in length!

So, take a dark and gloomy time of year and add Lent and what do you get?Well, this year in our Churches we hope you will find comfort and inspiration for dealing

with the realities of life – whether that is in good times or the most challenging. For duringLent (from Sunday 14th February) we’ll be looking at the Bookof Psalms in our sermons and talks and finding strength fromthe wisdom and life experience we find there.

Jesus drew heavily on the Psalms in his teaching and, likehim, we can find all human emotions and every possible lifesituation reflected there.

When you read the Psalms you find people making sense oflife’s joys and difficulties, and throughout the chapters andverses there is the strong sense of God’s love and support. That love is there whether the Psalm writers are praising Godor calling on him in their difficulties and despair: they knowthat God is there and does really care for us and love us.

Once again, as we approach Lent, I’m reminded that ourpreparation for Easter is not just about giving up: it’s alsoabout finding time to review our lives, to think about the past, present and future in a realistic way, and to take stock. In Lentwe consider our relationships – how we love God, love oneanother and love ourselves. After all, Christianity is a faith builton relationship, as the pages of the Bible bear witness. The

Book of Psalms is a good place to start to see how this network of relationships works inpractice.

The hope and realism that the Psalms can bring to our lives make them a good resource forthe hard month of February and the demands of Lent. Come along to our churches for ourSunday worship and dip into this marvellous resource and be comforted.

With every blessing,

Revd Tracey Williams, Associate Vicar

Today I was given a box of Bunsenburners, magnets, assorted scientificglassware, litmus paper and spatulas and

it felt like Christmas all over again! It mightseem that I have a strange taste in presents, but my delight came from knowing that thiswas the first (we hope) of many donations ofscience equipment for the Revd J C FayeSchool in The Gambia. This equipment will beshipped out to the school in Banjul later thismonth along with four laptops, a printer andscanner, which have also been donated.

The parish work of supporting the Revd JC Faye School has gone from strength tostrength since our first visit to The Gambia inFebruary 2014. Since then we have deepenedour friendship with St Mary’s Cathedral andChrist Church, Serrekunda, and also with theprimary and secondary schools in Banjul. Wewere delighted when Dr Ralphina de Almeida(right; one of the Trustees of the School)visited Sunninghill and South Ascot Parish inOctober 2015; we were inspired by DrRalphina’s words and pleased to receive herthanks from staff and students alike.

We have tried to offer practical help to theschools and churches, and in the past yearwe have shipped three crates of goods toBanjul: one (very large crate) for the schoolcontaining computer equipment and

SCIENCE EQUIPMENT; COMPUTERS AND STATIONERY

BUILDING BLOCKS FOR A FRIENDSHIP

stationery; the other two crates for theChurch in Serrekunda with hymn books, bibles, two laptops, two printers and ascanner. Our hope is that, with the help ofdonations from local Secondary Schools, wewill now be able to equip a sciencelaboratory in the school and so support therange of subjects taught to the students.Local schools are showing an interest inoffering help and support – the project hasalso spread further afield, with students fromthe East Kent College in Dover gettinginvolved with fundraising projects for theschool.

It is an exciting time to be involved in TheGambia project, and with so much scope tomake a difference it is timely that a team of12 from the parish will be spending a week inBanjul from 15th to the 22nd February 2016.During the week, we will be helping in theschool (some of us working with the teachersto lead lessons while the two teachers in ourteam run teacher training sessions in theprimary school); we will also be able to seehow the new science teaching laboratory istaking shape and will spend time in theCathedral and churches. We hope there willbe other opportunities to get involved in local

projects (for example a micro-finance projectthat helps Gambian women start a smallbusiness). While in Banjul we intend to buy afridge/freezer for the school (for the newlaboratory) and also a photocopier, which isrequired by the school office. Two membersof the team are doctors and they will begiving lectures in the local medical school andoffering support in other ways. It won’t be allwork (we hope) and as we’ll be in Banjul forthe Independence Day celebrations (a publicholiday in The Gambia) we may also be ableto see a little of the country on our rest day.

We are very grateful to everyone who hassupported The Gambia project work in theparish in many different ways. If you wouldlike to get involved and make a difference,we would welcome donations of pencils, pens and stationery items that can be takenout for the school students and teachers: weplan to take as much as possible in our holdluggage. You can bring your donations to theAll Souls’ Café any week-day morning beforeSunday 14th February or to our Churches ona Sunday. Thank you and God bless.

What do you do in those dull daysafter Christmas, go back to work?Impose upon yourself a dry January

following recent Government “we make itup as we go along” drinking “health”guidelines. No, no, no! None of that! We goto the Cordes Hall, where the Quince Playerscapture the epitomy of village life, nay, of lifeitself with their very witty, joyful andfrolicsome panto! A warm and inviting spacepacked to the rafters with local people outto enjoy themselves and a troupe ofprofessional players and minstrels, determined to make that happen.

Hats off to the writersand producers whodreamed up thisproduction and toHeather King, thedirector, who pulledit off (that’s notmeant to be adouble entendre, although the scriptwas littered with them.My nearly 4 year-oldgrandson had to ask his Daddywhat a bap was). I liked whenPrince John asked (sneeringly played byStephen Johnson) during Marian’sinterrupted wedding ceremony, whetherthere was a vicar in the house and theBrownies at the front of the auditoriumexcitedly pointed out that he was it!

Lots of audience participation, lots oflaughter and lots of music pretty much madethe evening go with a swing. For audiencereaction and balance, my party’s age rangewas from 3+ to 73+, including 11+ and 30+,not to mention 60+ (but best not go there!).I can tell you that they ALL enjoyed it

Last year we had Snow White, withdwarfs living in the forest, this year it’s RobinHood with Merry Men living in the forest, so,as I live in Forest Park, I’m beginning to feelpretty special; there’s something about forestliving that brings out the best in us! Heather

King has brought out the best in the array oftalented thespians she has at her disposal, soit’s pretty difficult to single out any one ofthe Quinces for special mention, but I’mgoing to pick out a few who had a bigimpact on the younger ones in my party,

For me, Mark Holliday as the uber-evilSheriff of Nottingham was excellent, somuch in the part, that he only had to appearto attract a tirade of boos from the audience.Andrew Darling was larger than life as NurseGusset, and it takes a lot of stage presenceto carry off a Pantomime Dame part. He wasbig enough, loud enough and rude enough

to make us all roll about.Another of my 11 year-

old’s favourites wasDaisy the Cowplayed with studiedsang’froid by MollyMatthews

The Merry Menincluded Toby

Adamson, Toria Lander, and Julie Voice, who all

added to the fun in theirown way, but I have to single

out Toria as the comic Little John, who pleased my 11 year old the most,

and whose comic timing and expressionwas perfect, even if he was confused most ofthe time! And Claudia Hughes’ portrayal ofBenedicta Cumber-Thatch promises moreinvolvement in future Quince productions.

Angus Munro and Lucy Matthews were agreat duo as the Sheriff’s Guards whosehearts were really in the forest. Theyprovided a seamless continuum for theproceedings and their antics were the causeof much laughter. I especially liked theinterviews with Robin Hood when the appleskept falling from the tree. That was goodtiming and expertly executed!

On a more studied, but tongue-in-cheeklevel was Lauren Hayes as Ellen-A-Dale,reprising the renowned Alan-a Dale, who Ibelieve was the original minstrel of the

ROBIN HOOD – AND THE MERRIMENT!ROBIN HOOD AND HIS MERRY MEN AT THE CORDES HALL

QUINCE PLAYERS, 14–17 AND 20-23 JANUARY

group. Her lines were all meant to rhyme, not only with her own speech but with othermembers of the group, and I thought shepulled that off brilliantly. When your lines aredesigned to connect; You can’t afford toforget! Well done to Lauren!

Patrick McCarthy has a fine song andDance talent, he is described as a Villager inthe programme, and during most of thepanto he lurked quietly in the backgroundaiding and abetting the dance choruses withtheir routines, but (and now this can berevealed) he turned out to be the absentKing Richard.

It’s good to see Stephen and RachaelJohnson in the team, especially in really-not-nice-person roles! I bet Stephen relished theopportunity to kick his lovelywife around in their alteregos as the dastardly PrinceJohn and his long-sufferingservant; It proves that theVillage Community and theChurch Community are notseparate! Their professionalsinging voices added muchstrength to the vocalising inthe many delightful musicalinterludes.

The children’s chorus anddancers were amazing, and Iwas impressed that this wasonly the second night andeveryone seemed to knowwhat they were doing. As aresult they were a joy towatch and to listen to.

And the band! The bandkept the whole thingtogether and were superb. Aproduction full of Beaus (getit? bows?) and Marrows(Nurse Gussett’s pies).Beaus’n’Marrows (get it?).Never mind, this sort of thingis catching.

The whole thing centredaround the relationship ofRobin and Maid Marian, andI thought that TomUnderwood and Lucy Heathwere strong enough to be

pivotal. Robin’s thigh-slapping presence onthe stage caught the attention of my nearly-4 year old, who having been gripped by thewhole thing (although still not sure what abap is), thought that Robin was the best ofall. Lucy was great as Marian and had agood singing voice. In this age of feminism Iwas encouraged to see that she was notentirely cowed by her imprisonment andgave as good as she got. I’m not sure thatRobin was aware of what he was taking on!Although with Stephen’s example of how aman should treat his wife, I’m sure they willlive happily ever after. And so will theQuince players at this rate.

Early in 2015, St Michael and All Angelsreceived a visit from David Bullock, duringthe 9:15 and 10:45 services, who had been

invited to talk about the work he was doing asthe Police Community Support Officer in Windsorto help the homeless and the vulnerable. Heintroduced us to the Windsor Street Angels, avoluntary organisation operating in Windsortown centre every Friday night, which he startedin February 2012 having seen the extraordinarysuccess in other cities around the UK. It replicatesthe original concept founded by Paul in Halifaxback in 2010.

His message was powerful and it made animmediate impact on me; so much so that I haveenrolled and after a few months of training I amnow a proud member of this impressive Group.

We meet at the Baptist Church everyFriday night about 9.15pm and thenpatrol the streets all over Windsorhelping anyone who may be vulnerableor in need of our support and help. Welook for the homeless to start with andoffer them hot soup and bread rolls;typically there will be between 10 – 15on the streets every night tuckingthemselves in for a an uncomfortablenight on the pavements or in dark alcoves setaside from the pedestrian traffic. We alwaysengage them in conversation to see how they arefaring and try to win their confidence so they willshare their problems and any issues which can beaddressed. Some we know well and haveextraordinary life stories. Others can bewithdrawn and deeply depressed, which isprofoundly sad.

We return to base at around 11pm to restockour rucksacks and warm up; we are then backout 20 minutes later to prepare for the closure ofthe pubs and night clubs. We are in constanttouch with the CCTV control centre thatmonitors the town through a multiplicity ofcameras and can see virtually everything that ishappening. We are alerted to anyone who seemsto be in distress or in need of help and off we goto investigate. As the night wears on, the Policeappear in all key areas to monitor the night clubs. We provide an all-important buffer at times andcan often diffuse difficult situations. We have anexcellent relationship with the constabulary andwork closely with them, especially whenyoungsters have enjoyed too much of their ownhospitality and might be having difficulty with

balance or othercontrol functions.Again as the nightprogresses a greatneed arises for flipflops as high heelsare discarded andwomen walkbarefoot on thestreets. It is amazingto see the relief andgratitude that thesefree hand outsprovoke.

On occasions the Street Angels have savedlives and prevented serious problems escalating. We are all trained in First Aid and carryequipment to assist but if necessary we mightneed to call an ambulance – this is rare though.

In a typical year we help over 4,000people, distribute 1,000 pairs offlipflops, 600 bottles of water, make47 referrals to other agencies and calm73 situations.

Street Angels operates under theumbrella of Windsor Christian Action(WCA), which is a local charityoperating social projects in Windsor.

I can commend this volunteer groupto anyone who would like to get involved inhelping other people. It is so worthwhile and thebenefits are tangible and immediate. We haveseveral initiatives for the homeless and have anactive rehousing scheme that works well andsome of the team provide regular meals to thosewho are still on the streets.

To raise funds and bring awareness to thecommunity, we are holding a ‘sleep out’ on theWindsor Streets on 19th February from 8pm until7am the following morning and I will be layingdown my sleeping bag for the night with otherson the team.

Thanks for reading this and anyone whowants to get involved or simply sponsor me(however small a donation – anything would bemost appreciated) please contact me [email protected] or through theeditor of the magazine...

David’s success is recognised now outside ourcommunity as the Windsor Street Angels havebeen nominated for the Queen’s Award forVoluntary Service, the highest award to be givento volunteer groups across the UK.

... DELIVERING AN EXCELLENT CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

YOUR LOCAL HONDA DEALER

It will not have escaped your notice, dearReader, that this year will be longer than mostand I do hope that you are planning to make

the most of it! Sadly, that extra day falls on aMonday, so you won’t be able to have a lie in, orgo to Church more often. It will mean an extraday of toil and strife; talking of which, did youknow that according to an old Irish tradition thatif a woman proposes marriage to a man on Leapyear day, then the man cannot refuse theproposal; it is also said that inthe 12th or 13th centuryQueen Margaret of Scotlandhad even passed a law to theeffect that if the man refusedsuch a proposal, then hewould have to compensate thewoman with a kiss and a newsilk gown. So look out, chaps, heads down at computerscreen, desk, or lathe anddon’t look up!

February is also the monthof Candlemas, GroundhogDay, Pancake Day and CordesHall Cinema Day!

Candlemas, on the secondof February, celebrates thepresentation of the child Jesusin the temple; the CandlemasBells, also known asSnowdrops, symbolize hopeaccording to Christian belief.Christians consider Jesus as the light of the worldso it is fitting that in some traditions candles areblessed on this day and a candle-lit processionprecedes the mass. It is traditional to eat crêpeson Candlemas in some parts of Europe, such asFrance. But why go to France? I’ll bet that if yourun down to Treacle Café in Sunninghill HighStreet, they will be pleased to serve up somedelicious pancakes. Or you could wait untilShrove Tuesday on the 9th, and pancake thenight away in readiness for the great six-weekfast starting the next day (NB: the Parish PancakeParty is taking place at All Souls church on ShroveTuesday at 3:30pm). Or why not celebrate both?Any excuse for a feast of pancakes is my motto! The Government now tell us that we mustrestrict ourselves to a thimble full of wine only ondays that contain the letter R. As fashionable

medical advice seems to vary wildly from oneweek to the next, I think we can safely ignorethis one! So we need to be able to feast on allpossible occasions!

Firstly, may I wish everyone a very happyNew Year. It was a relatively peacefulChristmas and New Year in Ascot. At a

time of year when some of us are makingresolutions, I am reminded of the old saying:“If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” It is disappointing to see that since thebeginning of the year we have had sevencars broken into overnight in the Sunninghilland Woodlands Ride areas. When I say‘broken into’, I mean the vehicles were leftunlocked and someone chanced their arm. Ifyou have grown bored with your SatNav,designer sunglasses or iPod, there is someoneout there who is more than keen to takethem from your car – just leave it unlocked. Isay ‘disappointing’, because this is a trendthat I noticed a couple of years ago when Imoved to Ascot, and I had hoped that themessage was out there. These thieves are morethan happy to jump oversecurity gates and walls,so please do what youcan to protect yourhard-earned goods. When it is so easy thereis very little deterrent.

May I pass my thanksto our colleagues inRoad Policing who havebeen running operationson the area targetingdrink driving. Worryingly, they arrested threedrivers within the spaceof an hour afterstopping cars on theA30 on the 13thDecember.

This time last yearsaw an increase in thenumber of burglaries toproperties around theA30 at Sunningdale.Fortunately this has not

been replicated this year. My team haverecently been revisiting some victims of crimeto offer ongoing support and advice on crimeprevention. There is lots of good advice outthere, so please, don’t do what you’ve alwaysdone, and make a resolution to put some ofit into practice. Did Santa bring you that safein which to store your valuables?

Thanks to all of you, who last yearcontacted us with anything that seemedsuspicious or did not seem quite right – wewant to know and will do our best toinvestigate.

February offers the first OpenGardens of the season, todelight us with carpets of

snowdrops. The yellow stars ofwinter aconites are cheering in wildareas and gardens alike. Cyclamen,

crocus, and other small bulbs are adding to the‘last Hoorah’ of the winter garden, and thearmchair gardener is also stirring, contemplatingthe transition from ‘planning’ to ‘doing’, weatherand soil conditions permitting.

And there is much to be done. Apple and Peartrees are pruned now, along with blackcurrants, gooseberries and redcurrants, to maintain anopen and productive framework, and to containheight and shape. A mulch of well rotted manureor garden compost will be beneficial here; up to,but not touching trunks and stems.

Winter flowering shrubs andheathers are similarly pruned at theend of their display. The dogwoodsand willows, grown for theircolourful stems, are cut right downto base, and ornamental grasses towithin a few centimetres ofground level. Deciduous hedgesshould be trimmed before birdsstart nesting. Roses, Wisteria, and summerflowering clematis, also require our attention atthis time of year.

Ideally pruning is best done during a period ofdry and warm weather. All pruning tools need tobe sharp and in good condition to avoid raggedcuts or crushed stems, which will promote diseaseand dieback. Any diseased material should beremoved, not composted or burnt.

Dormant fruit and ornamental trees andshrubs can be planted out now if conditions arefavourable. So any gaps, dull areas, or unsightlyfences or buildings, (as noted and duly thoughtabout from the comfort of the armchair), can beaddressed right now, perhaps with the addition ofa winter flowering shrub, or the fragrantevergreen clematis ‘Winter Beauty’, which shouldenhance the garden this time next year.

The exceptionally wet and warm start to theyear will encourage pests and diseases, so bevigilant in looking for and dealing with these.

Be wary of sowing too many seeds this early. Results can be disappointing, particularly fromwindow sill trays, as seedlings can become leggy

sand susceptible to damping off (botrytis) owing tolow light levels and humidity issues.

Instead, why not try growing Pea Shoots, nowa popular and pricey salad garnish. Suttons, variety‘Twinkle’ is specifically for indoor planting all yearround, and promises ‘ready in just 3 weeks’. Leafsalad ‘winter mix’ crops in a similar time, and saladcress is satisfyingly quick and easy to grow.

In the vegetable garden, clochesor fleece can be placed over areaswhere early sowings are to bemade, to warm the soil, and offersome protection from persistentrain. Be cautious of covering entireraised beds with impermeablemembranes, as you may create agiant puddle which can stagnate, and then what do you do about it?

Last year on an allotment near mine, a crowwould regularly appear at a mini pond thuscreated, bringing whole slices of bread to dunkand devour, a delightful diversion for me from thetask in hand.

I hope your gardening year gets off to a goodstart.

After the race, the contestants and many ofthe spectators flocked to a local pub where ahog-roast had been organised, and where thewinners received their certificates ofachievement. We wouldparticularly like to thank our main sponsor,DeVere Venues, for their contribution.’ Earlyindications are that approximately £8,000 wasraised as a result of the event.

Cordes Hall is a significant localfacility, built in 1902 and left in trustfor the use of our local community.

The Hall is a vibrant venue for live amateurtheatrical and musical performances, keep-fit classes, parties, meetings and morerecently our Cinema Club. The hall hasbeen the home of our famous QuincePlayers since 1945.

As part of our on-going up-gradeprogramme at Cordes Hall, I am thrilled tolet everyone know that we have just published an “Invitation to Tender” to refurbish all the toiletfacilities in the Hall, to bring them up to modern standards, whilst still retaining our unique“Victorian” atmosphere. As you can see from the photos, this is much needed!!

This is a major scheme for us, and although the “Tender” is open to any appropriately qualifiedcompany, I really hope that local companies – plumbers, building designers, etc., will see this as aspecial opportunity to be involved in such an important community project.

Full details of the “Tender” can be found at www.cordes-hall-sunninghill.org.uk or bycontacting Brian Finch on 07902 190566.

Companies are asked to confirm their interest in the next couple of weeks, and the deadline for“Tender submission” will be towards the end of March.

We look forward to hearing from you!!Jane Richardson

GOOD NEWS FOR CORDES HALL USERS!AND AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR LOCAL COMPANIES

Following their sell out Christmas concert “Ballads and Baubles” the SpotlightsMusical Theatre Group (SMTG) have started preparing for their Silver Jubilee show,THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE by Gilbert and Sullivan. And they need new performing

members!“We want the show to be community theatre at its best”, says Serena Kay, the groups

music director, and are looking for new members to be on stage and perform with us”. The SMTGs production of the best loved Gilbert and Sullivan will be entirely new and

set in the 1920s and have loads of opportunities for everyone to get involved and have afun time.

“It's a great show”, says Serena, “with comic Pirates, cowardly policemen, enthusiastic flappers, a Major-General who really should know better and an apprenticepirate and young woman getting it together against all the odds in the midst of muchhilarity and mayhem”.

And is the SMTG just looking for seasoned performers? “Not at all, says Serena. “Ifyou find yourself singing in the bath, shower, car and around the house and would like a

Monday night out rehearsingwith friendly like minded peoplethen the SMTG could be yournew musical fun night out in2016”

“We are a friendly inclusivebunch” says Serena “who enjoybeing together, singing togetherand socialising together so whynot give us, and pirates, a go andcome along?”

The SMTG will perform THEPIRATES OF PENZANCE at theRose Theatre, part of St Mary'sSchool, in Ascot during w/c 17July 2016 as part of their Jubileeyear celebrations. Want more fun and entertainment? Come along to the Ascot Day Centre and find out more!

We offer a very varied programme of activities: For the physically active, there are optionslike carpet bowls, tai chi, drama and darts too (not just for the chaps)! For the slightly lessenergetic, there are quizzes, sing-alongs, concerts, scrabble, bingo, seated dance or tai chi, cards and draughts. You can also relax reading the paper, use the computer or watch TV.

Or maybe you just want to relax in the company of others. Members may also benefitfrom services such as hairdressing, podiatry and the Citizens Advice Bureau.

A small daily payment provides morning coffee, a two course lunch and afternoon tea. If you are able to drive to the Centre, or have someone to bring you, that’s great,
