The SSAC is a learned society founded in 1974 to foster the study of Canadian architecture, including historical and cultural issues relating to buildings, landscapes, streetscapes, cities, and the countryside. The SSAC’s members include individuals and organizations that have a particular

interest in architecture in Canada. Our membership brings together a wide range of disciplines and people with professional, amateur, and

academic interests in the field: people who have made major contributions to the increased awareness of Canadian architecture.

What A special performance of Neptune Theatre’s production of The Color Purple in support of the 1588 Society’s drive to preserve the building known as the Khyber.

When May 30th, 2019 7:30 PM Showtime Pre-show reception at Neptune, and possible tours of the Khyber at 7:00 PM Possibility of meeting the cast post show.

Where Neptune Theatre - Fountain Hall 1593 Argyle St. Halifax, NS (Directly across from the Halifax Convention Centre)

Who Special invitation to members of NSAA and SSAC. Also invited are members of the public and supporters of the Turret Arts Centre project.

How Much $70.00 (student discount code | code de prix étudiant "SSAC 2019" A donation to the 1588 Society of $70 will get you a seat for the performance of Neptune Theatre’s The Color Purple, and access to any of the additional activities of the evening, possibly including: Tour of the Khyber building. Meet members of the cast after the performance. Pre-show reception and networking.

Why The 1588 Barrington Street Building Preservation Society has worked for 4 years to save the building known as The Khyber, and to turn it into a space for artists to work in downtown Halifax.

In November of 2018, the Society achieved the milestone of acquiring the property from the city for the cost of $1.00. Now the hard work of raising funds for the renovations needed to bring new life to the building is beginning.

This event will raise funds for the Society to finish detailed design work, and to begin the construction phase of the project. Donations from this evening, and partial proceeds from the bar sales at the theatre for this one evening will go to the Society.
