Dear Community of St. Augustine,
This weekend, the readings tell us what the name of God is and how He is. In the reading from the Book of Exodus God tells us that, for generations, His Name has been and will be “I-Am”. My dear brothers and sisters, God’s essence is “BE” and, indeed, He is the one who knows us, who calls us by our names, who talks to us and gives us a mission. This God knows His people’s suffering, frees them from oppression and promises them that they will receive blessings.
In Jesus Christ, our Lord, the God of the Old Testament reveals Himself to us as a compassionate and merciful God, who always gives us a new opportunity, yet who calls us to conversion and asks us to bear fruits.
In our Lenten journey, of what sins must we repent? What should we change to bear good fruits? This Sunday, our elect, Mithu Ghosh Deb, will go through the First Scrutiny. We pray for her mind to be imbued with the sense of Christ, the Redeemer, that she gets away from all sin, and that the Lord will protect and defend her from the grasp of Satan so that she can bear good fruits.
I want to express my gratitude to those who came to clean and work in the outside areas of our church in preparation for the celebration of our 50th anniversary. The task is hard, but with everybody’s joint effort we will accomplish it. Next Saturday, March 30th, we will continue; I invite you again to join in the effort to beautify our community.
I also invite you to come this Sunday, the 24th of March to enjoy the documentary The Face of Mercy. It will be a great opportunity to learn and deepen from the testimony of people who, in their lives, learn to say, Jesus, I trust in You!
May all of us have a blessed Lenten Season!

The parable in today’s Gospel clearly warns that we, like the fig tree, will be judged by our fruit. While God mercifully provides us with time
and opportunity, let us give witness to our faith with deeds of kindness and generosity!
