October 29th 2017,October 29th 2017,October 29th 2017, 30th Sunday In 30th Sunday In 30th Sunday In Ordinary TimeOrdinary TimeOrdinary Time: : : We fulfill the commandment to love our neighbor when we exercise good stewardship — joyfully sharing gifts of life, abilities, and resources to meet our neighbor’s need.

Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family...

BALANCE: Today's scriptures emphasize the funda-mental link between love of God and love of our neighbors, especially those who are most in need. Love of God should compel us to love the people whom God cherishes. Conversely, work for justice and charity for those in need should be rooted in our love of God. That connection and balance, however, isn't always easy to maintain in our lives. Even in religious orders we find that some Christians are more oriented toward contemplation and prayer, while others are more active in reaching out to those who are oppressed. Today Jesus reminds us of the necessity for both in the life of faith. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time

WE ENCOURAGE ALL TO READ AND REFLECT ON THE BIBLICAL PASSAGES THAT WILL BE PROCLAIMED

AT ALL THE MASSES NEXT WEEK First Reading -- Do we not have one father? Did not the one God create us? (Malachi 1:14b -- 2:2b, 8-10). Psalm -- In you, Lord, I have found my peace (Psalm 131). Second Reading -- You have received not a human word but the word of God (1 Thessalonians 2:7b-9, 13). Gospel -- Call no one your father on earth; you have but one Father, the one in heaven (Matthew 23:1-12).

CONFESSIONS: CONFESSIONS: WEDNESDAY, 6:15 TO 6:45 PM WEDNESDAY, 6:15 TO 6:45 PM

And And SATURDAY SATURDAY 3:30 TO 5 PM

Masses: Sat: 5:30 PM. Sun: 7:30 AM. Sun: 9:00 AM. Sun: 10:30 AM. Sun: 12:00 NN. Sun: 7:30 PM.

Celebrants: Fr. Semik Msgr. Cox Fr. King Msgr. Vadakin Fr. Semik Fr. Semik

To Receive Holy Communion (For those who are sick, hospitalized, or home bound). Please call Gloria Bowen, Eucharistic Minister to the sick at 310-670-5971. The Family Visitation Ministry offers spiritual support to those in need. Please call Sr. Teresita @ 310-216-2001, or the Church Office @ 310-670-2243.

FOCUS: Our love of God is best demonstrated by our love of neighbor. Jesus underlines the close and inseparable bond between our love of God and of neighbor. Loving God is not simply a pious or cerebral act, but a lived reality, carried out in the events of daily life. It is our witness to the love of God that will draw others into the mystery of His loving presence in the world.

LITURGY OF THE WORD The writer of Exodus reminds the Israelites of their duty toward the foreigner, the poor, the orphan and the widow in their midst. Saint Paul reminds us that it is the Spirit that turns the human heart away from worldly idols to faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus summarizes the

Gospel message as love of God and love of neighbor.

FACT OF LIFE The Pioneers of Feminist Rights Were Pro Life

A lot of feminists today insist that a person must be pro-abortion to be pro-woman. This is highly ironic since many first wave feminists were adamantly against abortion, and in fact many of the anti-abortion laws overturned by Roe v. Wade were put in place by pro-life feminists in the 19th century. Rather than viewing abortion a tool of female empower-ment, they viewed abortion as a sign of the oppression of women by men. Credited by many as the founder of the woman’s rights move-ment, and herself the mother of 7 children, Elizabeth Stanton was clear that she considered abortion to be a form of infanticide, and therefore rejected it totally. She also blamed men for abortion, saying that it was a symptom of the oppression of women (rather than a sign of their empowerment!). In one newspaper article, she blasted the “murder of children, either before or after birth,” saying “we believe the cause of all these abuses lies in the degradation of woman.” Elsewhere she wrote: “We are living today under a dynasty of force; the masculine element is everywhere overpowering the feminine, and crushing women and children alike beneath its feet. Let woman assert herself in all her native purity, dignity, and strength, and end this wholesale suffering and murder of helpless children.” From Article on ChurchPop.com

Kids Living Faith: Sunday, October 29th, 2017 30th Sunday In Ordinary Time

You should love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. — Matthew 22:37

At Mass, Julia looks at Jesus on the cross and she’s sure she can love Jesus with her whole heart, mind and soul, every single day. But when she gets home, Julia won’t let her little brother play with her. Later, when her mom asks her to clear the dinner dishes, Julia pretends she doesn’t hear. That night, Julia looks back on her day. She realizes that some of her actions weren’t very loving toward Jesus. She tells Jesus she’s very sorry. She asks for Jesus’ help so she can do better tomorrow. Jesus, help me love you by loving others!

Stress can affect the children around you: Everyone has stress, whether it is a bad

day at work, car trouble, or simply too many things to do. It is important to learn how to manage your stress – for your own sake and for the children around you. Too much stress can make it difficult to parent effec-tively. After a while, your children may show signs of stress, too. To learn more about how to identify and cope with stress, visit: https://www.helpguide.org/articles/stress/stress-management.htm.

Getting Through the Holidays: The Heroic Struggle from

Darkness to Light Soon department stores and the internet will usher in the holiday season, initiating a cycle of events which will continue through early next year: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and multiple celebrations of various faith and secular traditions. Surrounded by glitter and good cheer amid myriad expectations and mixed memories we sometimes feel overwhelmed, lonely, left out or even a little hum-bug-ish. Whether you are approaching the season with fond memories and high hopes or you are dreading the stresses the season may bring, we invite you to journey with us to explore the myths of Christmas, the social and personal consequences of the holiday season, and the reality of Advent. When: 2 Saturdays, October 28 and November 11. 9 - 11 a.m. Come to one or both. Where: In the Parish Office Conference Room Contact: Sue McLaughlin for more information 310-413-2575.

Rosary Message: Now that the Fatima Centenary year is drawing to a close, it’s good to remind ourselves about the essential points of the Fatima message. [At Fatima between May & October 1917, Our Lady spoke to three children, Jacinta, Francisco and Lucia]. On May 13, 1917, she said, “Pray the rosary every day to obtain peace for the world and an end to the war,” and this message was repeated by her over the summer culmination in her October 13 apparition when she said, “I am the Lady of the rosary, continue always to pray the rosary every day.” NEW!
