Summer Sermon Series Be the Church!
Today we continue our 2019 Summer Sermon Series, Be the Church! As the lectionary readings leading up to Easter, and through Eastertide, focused on John’s Gospel, we now shift to the Gospel of Luke, where the readings over the next few weeks focus on Jesus’ teachings to his disciples about what it means to be a disciple – what it means to be “the church.” What we will notice together in this 7-week journey, is that Jesus calls us to go, do, and be his church in our communities and in the world. * Call to Worship (responsively)
We are called to bring a new understanding of God – that God so loves the world. We remember that Jesus proclaimed that we are the salt of the earth.
We are called to bring a new hope in God – that God gives us new life. We remember that Jesus said that we are the light of the world.
We are called to follow the commandments and the law. The Law of God is to love God and to love one another.
Come, let us be the salt of the earth, the light of the world; let us love one another with the love of God. Let us join together in our love of God to worship and follow Jesus.
*Hymn No. 577 God of Grace and God of Glory Prayer of Approach (in unison)
We thank you, God, for coming to us as a neighbor, a stranger, an immigrant, binding our wounds and carrying us to safety, so that we might love you with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Through our worship this morning, move anew our hearts to welcome the stranger, help all who are in need, and truly love our neighbor as ourselves. Amen.

Morning Prayer and Lord’s Prayer Affirmation of Faith We Are Not Alone
We are not alone, we live in God's world. We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit. We trust in God. We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God's presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
