From The Desk of Msgr. Matthew Mitas:

CONTINUED

REMEMBER THAT MAY IS THE MONTH OF OUR LADY!

BEYOND SUNDAY This major archdiocesan collection (the third in the last 20 years) has been going on for over a year now in roughly two-thirds of the other parishes of the archdiocese and will soon begin here. The archdi-ocese is trying to raise 100 million dollars to support our parish schools. It’s quite an ambitious under-taking, and everyone will be asked to make a major contribution.

Of course our schools are worth it and they certainly do need it, and so our parish will accept and embrace its portion. There’s much work to be done, and leaders and workers are needed for it. If you love our parochial school system, have benefitted from it, would like to see it still be there for your grandchildren, and would be willing to help, then please make yourself known to me. The whole pro-cess starts in a couple of months. SHAW’S GARDEN NORTH It’s spring, and the St. Angela Gardeners have sprung into action. In a flurry of unsurpassed planting, they have turned our parish grounds into another Eden. Kudos, congratulations, and thanks to all! (And thanks, too, to our Pro-Life Committee and our green-thumbed parishioners who made the Pro-Life Plant Sale a huge success!) THE ANNUAL FLORISSANT CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION The immemorial Florissant annual Corpus Christi procession from Sacred Heart to Old St. Ferdi-nand has been revived and be celebrated in grand style again this year. It’s coming early, May 29th, so keep it on your calendars. It starts at 1:30PM and concludes with a picnic on the Old St. Ferdinand grounds. LOURDES - THE “NON-VIRTUAL” TOUR I was quite edified by both the quality of the presentation of our “virtual tour of Lourdes” last Sunday and by the participation of our faithful. So much so, in fact, that it has whetted my appetite for the real thing. I have never been to Lourdes (it’s located in an obscure part of France and is not easy to get to), but have always wanted to go. I’m going to throw this out there and see whether or not anybody wants in on it: let’s think about having a tour from our parish sometime soon, perhaps in the fall of 2017. It would be a pilgrimage to Lourdes, but not just there; we would probably also stop in Rome and Assisi, and maybe even Fatima on the way home. Just a thought; let me know if you’re interested. QUIZ-A-CATHOLIC Since the American bishops in their wisdom have moved the feast of Our Lord’s Ascension to Sunday, that is the feast we are celebrating today. That being the case, this quiz will test your knowledge of that great event in our salvation: 1. How many days after His Resurrection did Our Lord ascend into heaven? 2. In what year did the Ascension take place? 3. From what city did Our Savior depart this world? 4. From what part of that city did He depart? 5. What were His last words on earth, according to the Book of Acts? 6. What were His last words on earth, according to St. Luke? 7. What were His last words on earth, according to St. Matthew?

8. What were His last words on earth, according to St. Mark? 9. Do we know the exact spot from which Jesus ascended into heaven? 10. True or false: the Feast of the Ascension is the end of the Easter Season. ANSWERS: 1. 40 2. 33AD (same as the Crucifixion and Resurrection) 3. Jerusalem 4. On top of the Mount of Olives (which was the scene of His Agony in the Garden) 5. “…you will be my witnesses in Jeru-salem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 6. “…behold, I am sending the promise of My Father upon you; but stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” 7. “…and, be-hold! I am with you always until the end of the age.” 8. “These signs will accompany those who believe…they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover.” 9. Yes! There is the impression of a footprint in a stone on top of the Mount of Olives, believed to have been set there by the Lord when He vaulted Himself heavenward (well, it sort of looks like a footprint, if you use your imagination…) 10. False; it ends next week with the great feast of Pentecost. QUOTES OF THE WEEK “Disorder in society is the result of disor-der in the family” – St. Angela Merici (ed. note: this quote is found on the banner on the wall of our gym)

“If God had wanted us to vote, He would have given us candidates!” – Joseph Sobran

Annual Catholic Appeal

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you” (John 14: 27). These familiar words from the Gospel of John invite us to reflect on the great need for peace in our world today.

The Annual Catholic Appeal is an invitation to reflect Christ’s peace. Thousands of people turn to the archdiocese for hope and healing every day. In our parishes and apostolates, they experi-ence the light and love of Jesus.

This Easter season, we can open ourselves to Christ’s peace, and joyfully share that peace with others by making a gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal.

The Annual Catholic Appeal Pledge Cards are available for the final week in the Cafeteria. If you are still make your decision of your level of support, please take an envelope from the pew, pray for guidance, and return the completed en-velope in the Parish Collection or the Parish Of-fice.

Your gift will be joined with others to do the good works of the Archdiocese. Thank You!

Summertime is “PIZZA TIME”

Summer time is so busy, that it’s hard to plan and cook a big dinner. The Men’s Club has the answer, TJ’s Pizza and Desserts. The Men’s Club will be taking orders for pizzas and desserts after the masses on May 21 – 22 and June 4-5. Pick-up will be Saturday, June 18 in the lunch room from 12:00 noon – 2:00pm. The profits from the sale will go to support the Men’s Club Charitable endeavors. Thank you in advance for your support.

Last week our third and fourth graders enjoyed their trip to the Science Center. They also en-joyed a movie at the Imax theater. They spent the entire day there. We were a little worried at the beginning because the bus was late almost an hour. They must have run out of school buses because the kids had the pleasure of riding in a tour bus! Did they love that!!

Kindergarten and first grade were suppose to go to Purina Farms on Wednesday but the weather forecast so terrible that we canceled. They are going to try again this Wednesday.

We are celebrating the talents of our seventh grade science students and their wonderful teach-er, Mrs. Steinbruegge. We had five students take their science projects to Queeny Park's Science Fair. All of our students received ribbons and two of them received extra commendations.

-Caroline Lindsey received a Red Ribbon. -Michael Rose received a Red Ribbon and won a special award from the East Central District/Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri. He re-ceived a $100 savings Bond -Jeremiah King received a Blue Ribbon -Alanna Fenner received a Blue Ribbon -Dean Palmer received a Blue Ribbon and a special award from Monsanto. He received a $200 scholarship.

Congratulations for great work! We are very proud of these students and their teacher.

The end of year is coming quickly. Keep us in your prayers as we will do the same for you!

God is Good!

Movie Night at S.A.M. will continue on Friday, May 20th with the

showing of The Way. Check next week’s bulletin

for a description of the movie.

Legion of Mary

If you want to feel the "Peace of Christ" that Msgr. spoke of this week-end, try giving Jesus an extra hour this week. A young man referred to this as taking a "holy nap" definition: A time of reflection between you and the Lord. A time where you close your eyes, breathe, focus on all the goodness surrounding you and offering up all of your burdens to Jesus to take care of. “Come and spend an hour with Me," Jesus, Himself, made this request of us, His disciples. The bene-fits we receive are tremendous. Why not give it a try and then consider being placed on the list. See contacts below. Eucharistic Adoration is at St. Angela Merici on Tuesdays, after the 8am Mass, and closes with Perpetual Help and Bene-diction at 7pm.

Another means in which the Legion displays its love of God is to offer to parishioners the oppor-tunity of displaying in their home the statue of Our Lady of Fatima. Normally the statue remains in the home for about two weeks. The statue is in a box about the size of a small tabernacle. This can be either an individual or family partici-pation. What a wonderful opportunity to explain to your children or grandchildren the Church’s view on Devotion to Mary. Something to consid-er, as this is the month we dedicate to her.

If you are interested in either of the above, please contact Jane-741-9359, Joan–839-0694, or, Mary–831-7537. At that time we would then “Pass It Forward”.

St. Vincent de Paul Society

Our next Food Drive will be May 21/22. We will need non-perishable, canned, bagged or boxed food items. That includes meat, fish, veg-etables, fruits, chili, soups, pastas and pasta sauc-es, and cereals. We also need paper products and toiletries, as these items are not covered by food stamps. Please continue to use the SVDP envelopes for your donations. We appreciate

Witnessing at our local Planned Parenthood

Please join some fellow parishioners in sharing our message of Life in front of the Planned Parenthood on Lindbergh in Surrey Plaza II. We will be present there from 4:00 – 5:10 pm this Thursday, May 12. Please help us to share the truth with our North County brothers and sisters. For more information, please call Julie Rater-mann (401-0047).

A Rose for Life

If you are expecting a baby, awaiting an adoption, or trying to conceive, the Pro-Life Committee would like to place a rose with your name on it in a vase in front of the St. Angela statue in the Church lobby. Your parish family will remember you in their prayers as you await your arrival. A special white rose repre-sents those who have conceived, and a special yellow rose represents those we are praying for who are waiting to be blessed with a pregnancy or adoption. Please call Karen Dietz, 314-799-5936. For those whose babies have arrived, please take your rose as a remembrance of this very special time.
