Mission Statement St. Ann Catholic Church is a Christ-centered community erasing shame, diminishment and loneliness from its environment. Guided by the Holy Spirit, the Community gathers to proclaim the Word of God and to celebrate Jesus Christ’s presence in the sacraments. Let us pray…O wise and peaceful God, all across the globe, people are fearful. Unrest and violence, division and angst sadden our hearts. Yet, somewhere in the depths of our hearts lives your wisdom. Unite us, we pray. Lead us to the truth that love is more powerful than fear. In all that we do, may we act with your wisdom. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

ST ANN PARISH COUNCIL MEETING June 7, 2020
PRESENT; Father Moran, Julie Burgett, Jamie Kinder, Tina Peterman, Sue Pfaffenberger, John Smith, Cliff
Wheeldon, Eileen Wheeldon, Rita Vance ABSENT: Nick Bogdan, Roger Crump, Brettina Jeffers GUESTS: Paul Peterman, Duke Sheridan, Karen Sullivan, Tom Sullivan, Vince Marchese Meeting was opened with Father Moran leading us in the Lord’s Prayer. John Smith noted a correction in the minutes from the previous meeting, He said the front walls of the new addition with be structural steel with a stone and not a brick veneer. It was M/S/C by Eileen Wheeldon and Julie Burgett to accept the minutes from the previous meeting as corrected. SOCIAL: Karen Sullivan reported the Money Tree Raffle was won by the Reinhardts. She said the
Lenten Soup Dinners raised $326.00 and the Money Tree Raffle raised $487.00, for a total of $813.00. The money was given to Mr. Danny Newman, treasurer for CMO. To date, $49.00 have been raised from the Crock Pot Raffle. Tickets will be sold at masses again, beginning next weekend. Drawing for the raffle to be announced in the bulletin.
EDUCATION: Julie Burgett reported she sent a notice in March 2020 to families of children receiving
their First Holy Communion, informing them that First Communion would be moved to June 28, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She related that the notice also informed the families that Father Moran will be meeting with the children to discuss the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Father stated he will meet with the children after mass before June 28th.
LITURGY: Eileen Wheeldon reported the money donated for Easter flowers will be used to
decorate the church next Sunday, and for the mass for First Holy Communion. MAINTENANCE: John Smith reported that Father Moran sent the building plans for the church
renovation to the Diocese and they were approved. John noted he is currently in discussion with Rich Gannon of Gannon Construction. Mr. Gannon’s bid was $140,000 excluding electrical, plumbing and HVAC bids. He reported the electrical bid was $11,750.00, the plumbing bid was $20,000, and the HVAC bid was $30,000. Mr. Jack Patterson, of General Heating and Air Conditioning from Flatwoods, KY submitted the HVAC bid. John indicated updated HVAC requirements related to the COVID-19 virus necessitate more fresh air circulation. He stated both 4-ton HVAC units in the church will be upgraded to 5 ton to meet new building codes. Estimated cost for the upgrade is $30,000. Mr. Patrick Kelly, the architect for the church renovation, is investigating fresh air requirement to assure addition is up to building code. John reported exit and emergency lights are not currently present in the church, and will be included to bring the building up to code. He noted the front HVAC unit is not working. He will be submitting an order for repair this week. John also stated he will get an alternate quote from Paris signs regarding the upgrade to the sign in front of the church.
Eileen Wheeldon asked if the parish has voted to approve the building renovation. Tom Sullivan expressed concern he shares with others that people in the congregation are not informed about the church renovation. It is important to note, information about the church renovation has been in the Parish Council minutes for the past two years. Parish Council minutes are included monthly in the church bulletin. John Smith pointed out the bathrooms in the church do not meet current ADA building codes. He reminded the council that much of the impetus for the building renovation was to have handicap accessible bathrooms installed. Current space limitations preclude handicap accessible bathrooms. Rita Vance noted building costs will increase over time. Julie Burgett stated renovation of the church will add to the overall value of the building. John Smith observed that the most ideal time to build is in the summer. He said building renovation could begin in the next 2-3 weeks, with an estimated time to completion of 3 months. Eileen Wheeldon suggested that information regarding church renovation be presented to the parish. Father Moran offered to make a presentation at both masses next weekend (June 13th & 14th). Included in the presentation will be the annual financial report. Building plans will be available for purview at the back of the church. M/S/C by Rita Vance and Eileen Wheeldon for Father Moran to do the presentation. A vote to approve church renovation by show of hands will be held the following weekend (June 20th & 21st).
FINANCE: Eileen Wheeldon reported church revenues are behind due to the COVID-19 pandemic
and decrease in church attendance. Contributions can be mailed to the church. All the church’s stock was sold. Proceeds from the stock sale added to existing funds total $277,000. Eileen Wheeldon indicated the church will have over $100,000 remaining after proposed church renovation. Eileen asked that all church committees submit their annual budgets. She stated information may be emailed to her at: [email protected] She indicated she will hold a Finance Committee meeting within the next 2 weeks.
OTHER BUSINESS: Sue Pfaffenberger thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers for her recent knee
surgery. She stated it is time to nominate individuals for election to Parish Council. She said she, Julie Burgett and Eileen Wheeldon comprise the nominating committee. Please submit names for possible Parish Council members to the nominating committee.
Father Moran informed the Parish Council that Eileen Marchese will be retiring as
church secretary when he retires in May 2021.
Next Parish Council Meeting will be on July 12, 2020 at 10:15 AM The meeting was closed with Father leading us in the Hail Mary.
