St. Vincent dePaul Society St. Anthony Conference

In the Gospel today, Jesus moved with pity touched the leper and healed him. Let us pray today for the grace to be

generous with our gifts to help those who are suffering. By your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you indeed put our faith into action as you bring healing to the poor, hungry and weeping. “It is in giving that we receive”. Thank you for your generous donations to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. NOTE: If you or someone you know living in the St. Anthony area may need some assistance, have the person in need call our SVDP Parish office phone number 815-469-3750 x114 and leave a message. The call will be answered as soon as possible. Spring Cleaning time is near. When you are cleaning out your closets and other spaces in your home, consider packing up the things you are no longer using and bring them to the St. Vincent de Paul truck that will be in the church parking lot March 13 and March 14. Drop off during the Mass hours. We will accept….Clothing, shoes, linens and books in good or bad condition. Unusable clean clothing, shoes, linens and even books generate income for the needy because they are sold for rags or in bulk. Small housewares and electronics – dishes, glassware, utensils, toasters, blenders, coffee makers, radios, cd players, Bicycles, power tools, sports equipment etc. ALL Clean BABY CLOTHES & Toys are ACCEPTED!

Shining the Light of Christ through the 2021 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal

This is Commitment Weekend for the 2021 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA). Please prayerfully reflect on how you can best support our annual appeal and help our parish reach its $98,000 goal. Because not all of us have returned to worshiping in person, our pastor is mailing a packet to parishioners this week. Included will be the envelope many of us use to make a gift at Mass, as well as more information on how the CMAA shines the light of Christ not only in our parish, but across the diocese. Seventy percent of any amount we raise over our goal will be returned to our parish, for our needs. To make a gift, complete and return your pledge envelope in the mail, visit jolietdioceseappeal.org or text DONATE to (815) 205-1949. Thank you for considering the most generous pledge possible to this year’s annual appeal.

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday

February 17th 1. Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent. 2. All from the age of 18 years up to the beginning of their 60th year are bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. 3. On these two days of fast and abstinence, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. 4. To disregard completely the law of fast and abstinence is sinful. 5. Lent is the principal season of penance in the Church year. Therefore, all of the faithful are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of voluntary selfdenial. All Catholics are encouraged to support generously the charitable works of the whole Church, pray and perform works of charity and mercy. Those who are sick, pregnant, or nursing, or whose health would adversely be affected by fasting or abstinence, should not consider themselves bound by these norms
