  • Message from the desk of the Pastor

    My dear people of God,

When Jesus appeared to his disciples for the first time after his death, one disciple was not with them. He became known as “doubting Thomas,’ because he did not believe that Jesus had risen from the dead. He told the other disciples that his disbelief would only end if he could see Jesus with his own eyes.

In today’s Gospel there are two very important lessons, that Jesus teaches us. In the first part, Jesus gives the apostles the gift of the Holy Spirit and the power to forgive sins. The second important message of today’s Gospel is proof of the resurrection of the actual Body of Jesus into glory.

My brothers and sisters, we all face encounters, events and people that can create distress and leave us fearful. But Thomas, John, Peter and the other disciples teach us today that Jesus came to liberate us from our spiritual and emotional prisons of fear. Jesus invites us to embrace the peace he offers and joins with the other believers, who walk with confidence knowing the peace of Jesus dispels any fears. Jesus’ desire for us to enjoy his peace is echoed in his words when he told Sister Faustina, in one of his appearances to her: “My child, life on earth is a struggle indeed, a great struggle for my kingdom. But fear not, because you are not alone.”

Lord Jesus, help us to remember the words of Thomas: “My Lord and my God” and to make them our own prayer. Help us to see you in the actions and words of the people we meet,

so that day by day our belief in you will grow stronger. God bless you.

Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Joseph

Prayer for a Child’s First Communion

Lord Jesus, Bless the children coming forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time. May this day be an initial step into a life-long love of the Eucharist. Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance, and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship.

Thank you for their innocence and goodness. May their hands, extended in antic-ipation of your Body and Blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sa-cred sacrament.

The Lord Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm. -Exodus 14:14

So before I tell y’all this story, God does have a sense of humor! This entire thing happened on April 1st. As I was driving back home from

class, my front left tire got too close to the curb and it caused me to have a flat tire! I ended up turning into the closest street so I would be out of the way. I motioned for a car to stop to see if they were able to help me or at least stay with me until I found someone to either change my tire or air it up for me. There was this sweetest lady who realized I was freaking out and she told me she would stay with me until someone would help me! She told me that maybe there would be some guy who would stop and help me. I'm not even joking about this, as soon as she said that, there was this most kindest man who realized we needed help and he stopped!! I told him how I needed someone to change my tire because I had a flat tire and I remembered that I had a spare tire in my trunk. He said, "Ok, I'll help you." and get this, he is even a policeman but he was off duty during this time! This is kinda an embarrassing story, but it made me realize that there are still the most kindest people out there in this ugly world we live in; we just need to look a little deeper because they are disguised as Angels! I hope this story somehow inspires one of you and even in the most scariest moments, we need to stay calm because God is fighting for us be-hind the scenes. God will make a way when there is no way. When you find the time, please listen to “Proof of Your Love” by FOR KING AND COUNTRY. Kylie

    DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY

Come join us 3:00 to 4:00 pm this Sunday, April 28th as we celebrate the tremendous gift of Divine Mercy from our Lord Jesus Christ.

Pope St. John Paul II designated the Sunday after Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday. In thankfulness for this wonderful gift of Mercy we will have one hour of Eucharist Adoration, pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet, the Rosary and have quiet time to meditate. Praise God

for St. Faustina for being such a faithful witness for the world, giving us the message of His Divine Mercy.

To receive a Plenary Indulgence for Divine Mercy Sunday we must go to confession within a week before, or after, the Sunday of Divine Mercy, attend Mass, receive Holy Communion, give reverence to His Divine Mercy, and do at least one Act of Mercy.

Jesus told St. Faustina, Jesus desires Divine Mercy to be cele-brated and reverenced throughout the world. Jesus is Merciful and He desires that we be channels of His Mercy. Any questions call Cecilia at 922-8783.

    Dear Fathers,

As the Church gathered on Holy Thursday evening to commemorate the Last Supper, Father William T. Kelly (known as Fr. Bill) was called from his life of dedicat-ed priestly service into his reward of eternal life.

Father Bill, as he was known, served as a faithful priest in our Archdiocese as the beloved pastor to the people of St. Anthony De Padua in Danbury. For years, he served as a theology Professor at the University of St. Thomas, where he formed many Catholics and brought others to the faith. As a faculty member of St. Mary's Seminary, he taught and guided many seminarians and was a living example of how to be a priest. Father Bill retired as a Professor Emeritus from the University of St. Thomas in 2008 to St. Mary Church in Plantersville where he served the community until recently.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, April 23rd at St. Mary's in Plantersville with the Rite of Committal immediately following at St. Mary's Ceme-tery.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

Our prayers and condolences to Father Bill's family, friends, colleagues and the many seminarians, now priests, who knew and loved him.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful depart-ed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
