Parish Mission Statement We, the parish family of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church welcome all, young and old, active or inactive, committed
or alienated, to enrich their lives by joining and participating in our faith community. We seek to reflect the light of Jesus
Christ by reaching out to serve all, and by sharing our joy and hope, as we continue our faith journey. May our lives,
inspired by the Holy Spirit, and nourished by the Eucharist, bear witness to our love for neighbors near and far.
ST. ANTHONY PARISH COHASSET, MA
Dear Parishioners,
In January 2011 Cardinal Sean O’Malley established an
Archdiocesan Pastoral Planning Commission. The group was
comprised of a bishop, pastors, deacons, religious, lay ecclesial
ministers and members of parish staffs, school leaders and
parishioners with families. The work of the commission was to
develop a recommendation for a pastoral plan for the
Archdiocese so that every Catholic might embrace the new
evangelization echoing the teaching of Saint John Paul II and
Pope Benedict XVI. The shortage of priests, and the declining
number of people attending Sunday Masses led to the need for
pastoral planning in the Archdiocese. The Pastoral Plan
recommended by the Planning Committee is entitled Disciples in
Mission. “To summarize the 25 page document, the parishes in
the Archdiocese were divided into seven phases with two or three
parishes in each phase forming a collaborative. No parish church
will be closed in the new plan, no parish will cease to exist, each
parish will retain its own identity, retain its own Finance
Committee but share a single administration, and share Parish
Pastoral Council with the other parish(es) within the
collaborative. To date there have been six phases of
Collaboratives operating. St. Anthony Parish has been placed in
Phase Seven in a collaborative with St. Mary Parish in Hull. The
collaborative will begin on June 1, 2019. I mention this at this
time, since the names of the parishes in Phase Seven will be
announced in The Pilot next week. Last Thursday was the date on
which letters of resignation had to be sent to Cardinal Sean, so
Father Mark Derrane in Hull and I had to send our letters of
resignation. This opens the way so that any priest interested in
pastoring the new collaborative can become aware of the
opening. I think the name of the Pastor is made known sometime
in January, and the effective date of the assignment is June 1st.
The new collaborative will have a Pastor, possibly a Parochial
Vicar (the old “curate”) Pastoral Associate (lay or religious)
Business manager, Youth Minister and Religious Education
leaders. The Commission recommended that religious and laity,
as well as clergy be formally involved in the assignment process
of pastors, and it is hoped that the Priest Personnel Board will
have an open meeting to allow the parishioners to offer their
suggestions and recommendations, without naming a specific
person. I will keep you posted on the process of the Collaborative
as time goes on. Sincerely,
Fr John R. Mulvehill

From the Deacon’s Bench
A plant without water cannot stay alive and
bear fruit. Nor can faith, unless it drinks
deeply of the memory of all that the Lord has
done for us.

appointments. The time commitment for van drivers is typically 3
hours per month. FISH drivers are on call 1-2 assigned day(s) per
month. Candidates must have a safe driving record and valid
