At a retreat for peace, conducted in Los Angeles by Thich Nhat Hahn, a Vietnamese monk, some American veterans of the War
were invited to attend, and to share their stories. With tears of shame and regret one veteran confessed how before
combat he and his buddies would throw money into a jar and whoever killed the most enemies that day would get the money. Another veteran told how one day during the war he captured a young Vietnamese solder. With his hands clasped on his head,
the Vietnamese soldier captive fell down on his knees and crawled. Moved by the look of absolute terror in his enemy’s
eyes, the American soldier began to ask him questions through an interpreter.
“How old are you?” “Nineteen.” “So am I. What do you do?” “I am a student.”
“So am I. Do you have a girlfriend?” “Yes.” “So do I.” Then, reaching into his knapsack, the young American pulled out
a tin of beans, gave it to his enemy and let him go. At first the Vietnamese ran as fast as he could, zigzagging back
and forth for fear that he would be shot in the back. Then suddenly he turned, raised the tin of beans high over his
head, bowed a deep bow and disappeared into the jungle. For this Vietnamese soldier a tin of beans was a feast to be
shared. From that day on the young American soldier marched with his gun turned upside down.
Every day there may be opportunities to show compassion in action.

This verse is a great reminder that the Stewardship lifestyle is one of service, putting God first and to “love one another.” Unfortunately today,
many people have “passion” for activities they enjoy - their job and off-work activities. Many times our “passion” to excel is at the expense of someone
else. Maybe we need to focus on a little less passion for our individual concerns and a lot more compassion for others .

GRADE 6-8 YOUTH GROUP is planning an evening of fun including a game of “T-Shirt Chase”. It will be held on Wednesday, June 8th at 7:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Church. All youth in Grade 6-8 are invited to attend, and asked to bring a friend.

COME CELEBRATE WITH US! The Confir-mation Class at St. Augustine’s in Taber will have a Celebration of their Journey Mass to be held on Sunday, June 19th at the 6:00 pm Mass followed by a social. Please mark your calendar and plan to join in this very special celebration with our youth.

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING has been re-scheduled for Thursday, June 16, at 7:00 pm in Vauxhall. This is a joint Parish Council meeting for Vauxhall and Taber, however, Parish Council also invites anyone who wishes to speak about any aspect in our parish to attend this meeting.

CAMP COLUMBUS is currently accepting registrations for their ALL boys and girls camps for youth aged 8-14. Registration forms are available in the entrance of the church. For more information, call the church office or go to their website at www.campcolumbus.com.
TABER CARES upcoming Spaghetti Supper & Silent Auction will be a fundraiser for Fort McMur-ray Fire Relief. This will take place on Wednes-day, June 15 at the Taber Civic Centre. Supper & Silent Auction will be from 4:30-7:00 pm. Tickets are $12.00/person and are available at the church office, Bluewave Energy, Taber C-op and Taber Scotiabank. STRENGTHENING OUR PARISH COMMUNI-TIES-ABUSE PREVENTION WORKSHOP “Taking Action Against Abuse of Older Adults” (9:30am – Noon) and “Called to Protect” (1pm-4pm) workshops will run on Saturday, June 4 at All Saints (Assumption) Parish in Lethbridge. CWL BAKESALE last weekend was a huge suc-cess with $1,157.00 raised to assist with Fort McMurray relief. Thank you to everyone that sup-ported this bakesale in any way.
CWL POTLUCK/MEETING for the month of June has been moved to Thursday, June 16 (due to the Graduation Mass) Please watch the bulletin next week for further information as to time and location.
