BINGO IS A CHURCH FUNDRAISER

About a week after Jesus plainly told His disci-ples that He would suffer, be killed, and be raised, He took Peter, James and John up a mountain to pray. While praying, His personal appearance was changed into a glorified form, and His clothing became dazzling white. Moses and Elijah appeared and talked with Jesus about His death that would soon take place. When a cloud enveloped them, a voice said, “This is My Beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.” The cloud lifted, Moses and Elijah had disappeared, and Jesus was alone with His disciples. Jesus warned them not to tell anyone what they had seen until after His resur-rection. The three accounts of this event are found in Matthew 17:1-8, Mark 9:2-8, and Luke 9:28-36.

PATRON SAINT of PARISH PRIESTS

The body of Saint John Marie Vianney, found to be incorrupt by the Catholic

Church. The body, wearing a wax mask, is entombed above the main altar in the

Basilica at Ars, France

Vianney was born on 8 May 1786, in the French town of Dardilly, France and was baptized the same day. His

parents, Matthieu Vianney and his wife Marie had six children, of whom John

was the fourth. The Vianneys were devout Catholics, who helped the poor

and gave hospitality to St. Benedict Joseph Labre, the patron saint of

tramps, who passed through Dardilly. Jean-Baptiste-Marie Vianney

commonly known in English as St. John Vianney, was a French parish

priest who is venerated in the Catholic Church as a saint and as the patron

saint of parish priests. He is often re-ferred to as the "Curé d'Ars"

internationally known for his priestly and pastoral work in his parish in Ars,

France, because of the radical spiritual transformation of the

community and its surroundings. Catholics attribute this to his saintly life, mortification, his persevering

ministry in the sacrament of confession, and his ardent devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. His feast day

is August 4.
