September 20, 2020 25th Sunday of Ordinary Time
Welcome to St. Bernadee! You may come as a stranger to us; yet you
are known to the Lord, Jesus Christ, and in His name we bid you
welcome; praying that you find peace, inspiraon and friendship in His
house of worship. We are happy that you have joined us in worship! If
you would like to become a parish member, please contact the Parish
office at 7394157 to receive informaon on the next Welcome Sunday.
Weekday Mass Times:
Tuesday: 6:00 pm
Wednesday: 8:00 am
Thursday: 8:00 am
Friday: 7:45 am
Weekend Mass:
Saturday: 4:00 pm
Sunday: 8:30 am & 10:30 am
Welcome back to the celebration of the
Mass. The Bishop has lifted the dispensa-
tion and all Catholics are invited to gather as
a community of faith and share in the Eucha-
rist! Please know we are doing everything
within our means to provide a safe environ-
ment.
I'm so grateful for all of our volunteers! I
know my staff feels the same way, and
many of our parishioners. Annually, as a
sign of our gratitude, we have a special
gathering to celebrate and encourage this
spirit of stewardship. This year we won't
be holding that celebration because of
Covid 19. Instead, I'm writing this article to express my
gratitude and to promise a special gathering in the
future just for our volunteers. Please stay tuned!
Some of you that are reading this are volunteers, others
are those who have volunteered, no longer can, or might
step forward in the future. First, thank you. I can't say
enough how a good turn out of volunteers first and fore-
most for each Mass, helps set the tone and spirit of our
parish. Everything else flows from our experience of the
celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Thank you
for helping people encounter our Lord in a well celebrat-
ed Mass.
I also want to make special mention of those who help
pass on the faith to our youth. These Catechists are
critical in helping our parents in their duty as
parents. We are always looking for confirmed adults
who are actively reading, studying and living their faith,
deepening their faith. We provide excellent textbooks
and many resources to help our catechists, but also our
parents and the youth, to continue learning and practic-
ing their faith with greater and greater authenticity.
We also have many who help in the office and with the
buildings and grounds and on the various committees,
clarifying and enabling us to pursue more effectively our
vision for the future of St. Bernadette Church.
We have much to be thankful for here at
St. Bernadette's. Let's keep our brothers and sisters in
prayer, especially our volunteers. Let's beg the Lord to
help us grow in the spirit of Stewardship. How is the
Lord calling you and me to serve, or to serve more
generously? May we always hunger and thirst for right-
eousness and be eager to show mercy. As the Lord
promised, those who live these beatitudes, shall be
shown mercy and be satisfied.
In Christ,
Rev. Joseph E. Dorner
Pastor of St. Bernadette Catholic Church

St. Bernadette’s to Host
Pillars Adult Warming Shelter
1928 W. COLLEGE AVE
(October 1- 4, 2020)
Jesus calls for us to feed the hungry, cloth the naked
and welcome strangers. Here is a wonderful opportunity
for you to follow Jesus’s call in an active way!
St. Bernadette will be hosting the Pillars Adult Shelter on
Thursday, October 1 thru Sunday October 4. Volunteers
are needed to prepare meals at home (8-10 volunteers
per day), serve meals at the shelter (5-6 per day) and/or
purchase meal supplies. We are in need of a great num-
ber of volunteers to fill these shifts. You may sign up for
one job or as many as you like. No special skills are re-
quired, a kitchen host and staff from the Pillars Adult
Warming Shelter will be on hand at all times.
During this difficult time of Covid, Pillars is following
state guidelines and using protective measures to keep
volunteers, clients and staff as safe as possible. Volun-
teers will be asked to wear masks all times and gloves in
the kitchen area.
Parishioners can sign up after masses, at the table in
the narthex, the weekends of September 12-13 and
19-20th. Someone will be present to assist you with sign
up and answer any questions you may have about the
positions available. Students ages 14-17 looking for ser-
vice hours may volunteer, if they are accompanied by an
adult.
If you cannot make the sign up, but would like to partici-
pate or have any questions, please contact Diane Lynch
(205-4030) or Ester Christian (257-3485).
We know that not one person is perfect in this world or our
parish community. We need to reflect on those areas in our
lives that need to be transformed. Check out season 1 of
Forgiven in FORMED. Forgiven is about the transforming
power of Confession. This can be used as a sacramental
preparation program too. There are a total of 9 sessions.
Explore the grace and healing offered in Confession and It
shows how this sacrament of mercy reveals the depth and the
bounty of God’s love for each of us. God reveals Himself and
His mercy within Scripture. Take a step by step examination of
Confession. Forgiven is an opportunity to come to experience
his indescribable love in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
FORMED
Please join us on Saturday, Oct 24th at 9:00 am for
the Parish Fall Clean-Up (backup on Nov 7 if the
24th is rained out). Please bring rakes and gloves to
help clear our church grounds. Thanks in advance
for your help!

need is still there. Holy Land Collection was usually held on
Good Friday (4/10/20), but this year it was held this past
weekend. See below for the remaining changes to the collec-
tions.
† World Mission Sunday will be held October 18th (normal
timing).
† The World’s Poor is usually held the 4th Sunday of Lent
(3/20/20), this year it will be held November 7th & 8th.
† Home Mission Sunday - Our Own Needs Collection, is
usually held on Pentecost Sunday (5/31/20), this year it
will be held November 7th & 8th.

2020 Disaster Relief Giving
Our prayers go out to families who have lost loved ones,
homes and businesses due to the devastating impact of
Hurricane Laura and the wildfires in the West.
At the request of the USCCB, Bishop Ricken is asking all
parishes to have a voluntary special collection to support
the USCCB Bishops Emergency Disaster Fund as soon as
Possible. We have decided to have this collection the weekend
of October 3rd & 4th.
The funds collected in this special collection will be used to
support humanitarian, long-term recovery and Church needs
arising from these calamities. The fund will be used to support
both Catholic Charities USA and Catholic Relief Services, the
official relief agencies of the U.S. Catholic Church, as they
respond to immediate emergency needs; and the USCCB for
pastoral and reconstruction needs of the Church.
The need is great to provide assistance and pastoral
outreach to those in need and to the church itself. Checks can
be made payable to St. Bernadette and memo for Bishops
Disaster Fund. Credit Card donations can be made by calling
Loving Father, we pray today for our catechists. We
thank you for their gift of ministry in your Church. Grant
them your wisdom that they may grow in the
understanding and teaching of your Word. Grant them
also your love that they may be fruitful heralds of your
Word and lead others to love you. Pour forth your Holy
Spirit upon them to grant them wisdom about what is
important; knowledge of the truths of faith;
understanding of their meaning; right judgement about
how to apply them in life; courage to persevere even in
the face of adversity; reverence before all that is sacred
and holy; and that loving zeal which leads others to a
transforming encounter with your Son. We pray this
through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
