ALL IN THE FAMILY The fact that we are God’s actual children changes everything in human history. Studying ancient mythologies is fascinating, with such a variety of gods, demigods, monsters, and creatures. But nowhere in those stories does any mere mortal proclaim the intimate goodness of God who parents all of humanity with tender, unchanging love. Deuter-onomy seizes on this astonishing attentiveness of God, asking, “Did anything so great ever happen before? Was it ever heard of?” The people of God must answer, “No, never!” God, the one and only true God, has transformed all of human

history by choosing us as beloved children. And though we have broken every promise ever made, God has remained faithful to our covenant. God shows us how to keep faith with one another in deep, abiding love. Many of us carry wounds from experiences of unfaithfulness and selfishness. As a people, we are not consistently good at loving each other in the way that God loves us. Each one of us knows the savage pain of indifference or betrayal. Many of us have inflicted pain on others. Even so, God loves us. God’s faithful-ness encourages us to try again, to love more selfless-ly.

Pero en ningún lugar en esas his-torias hay un simple mortal que proclame la íntima bondad de Dios quien es el padre de toda la unidad, con un amor tierno e inmutable. El libro del Deuteronomio considera esta situación de Dios preguntando: “¿ha pasado algo tan extra-ordinario alguna vez? ¿Se escuchó algo tan asombroso antes?” El pueblo de Dios debe responder: “¡No, nunca!” Dios, el único y verdadero Dios, ha transformado toda la historia humana al elegirnos como sus amados hijos. Y aunque hemos roto todas las promesas que hemos hecho, Dios ha permanecido fiel a nuestro pacto. Dios nos muestra cómo mantener la fe unos con otros con amor profundo y permanente.

Parish Secretary - St. Bonaventure Church

St. Bonaventure Church is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Parish Secretary. Responsibilities include: provide clerical support to Pas-tor, prepare correspondence, receive visitors, answer phone calls, maintain sacramental records, and prepare weekly bulletins.

Preferred candidate must have a High School diploma or GED certificate; minimum of three years related experience; bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred; possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher as well as Outlook; excellent organizational and communica-

Community Budget Review Meeting: Dr. Saavedra, Superintendent of South San ISD will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 29th, 2018 at 6:00 pm at Zamora Middle School to discuss the budget deficit and to explain

the Tax Ratification Election to be held in June.

“Holy Name News” You are invited to remember and pray for your family members and

friends who are interred at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery and for all who have defended our country and our freedoms.

On Sunday, May 27, at 3 pm, Holy Mass will be celebrated at the pavil-

ion at the far eastern end of the cemetery. The Archdiocesan Union of Holy Name Societies sponsors this annual Mass as part of the Memorial Day weekend observance. Chairs will be

provided as well as cold water.
