PERPETUAL ADORATION

For over a decade, the parishion-ers of St. Theresa have been en-gaged in a continual act of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. For twenty-four hours a day, every day of the year, the needs of the universal Church, our nation, the parish, our families, and our per-sonal needs have been lifted up to the Lord. The Emmaus chapel of Perpetual Adoration is open to everyone. The parish invites you to commit to one hour of prayer a week be-fore the Blessed Sacrament. There are a few hours during the week in which we only have one adorer. Some of these hours are listed below. Day Hours Sunday 12am, 1am, 2am, 8am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, & 5pm

Monday 1am, 4am, 6am, 11am, 12pm & 1pm

Tuesday 2am, 3am, 6am, 11am, & 12pm

Wednesday 1am, 2am, 7am, 12pm & 1pm

For more information, or to in-quire about how to become an adorer, please contact Rebecca Freeman (281-844-4616).

2015-11-1 Vatican Radio

Pope Francis on Sunday travelled across Rome to the city’s Verano ceme-tery to celebrate Mass for All Saints Day. In his homily the Pope reflected on the words of the Beatitudes spoken by Jesus as he taught the crowds gath-ered on the hillside around the Lake of Galilee.

Pope Francis said we may ask ourselves how can the poor in spirit, or those who mourn be blessed or happy? Be-cause those whose hearts are free of worldly cares and those who have ex-perienced the sadness and pain of oth-ers, the Pope said, are those who will be welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven and will feel God’s tenderness and consolation in their own lives.

Reflecting on the words, ‘Blessed are the meek’, Pope Francis said how often we act in exactly the opposite way, fretting, complaining and raising our voices, instead of following God’s path of patience and humility. Like parents who show endless patience towards their children, he said, Jesus also fol-lowed the path of meekness, suffering exile and persecution, false accusations and even death on the Cross for our sake.

The Pope spoke of the words ‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for

righteousness’ saying they will be filled with God’s justice. ‘Blessed are the merciful’, he continued, reminds us that we are all sinners and every one of us needs to be forgiven, just as we must show mercy and forgiveness to others.

Finally the Pope reflected on Jesus’ words ‘Blessed are the peacemakers’, saying those who patiently work to build peace and reconciliation are those who find true happiness, unlike those who cheat, or gossip, or take ad-vantage of others.

Let us ask God for the grace to be sim-ple, humble people, the Pope conclud-ed, the grace to be meek and learn how to cry, the grace to work for justice and peace and, above all, the grace to ask God’s forgiveness that we may become instruments of his mercy for others.

PRAYER BEFORE MASS Almighty and ever-living God, I approach the sacra-ment of Your only-begotten Son Our Lord Jesus Christ. I come sick to the doctor of life, unclean to the fountain of mercy, blind to the radiance of eter-nal light, and poor and needy to the Lord of heaven and earth. Lord, in your great generosity, heal my sickness, wash away my defilement, enlighten my blindness, enrich my poverty, and clothe my naked-ness. May I receive the bread of angels, the King of kings and Lord of lords, with humble reverence, with the purity and faith, the repentance and love, and the determined purpose that will help to bring me to sal-vation. May I receive the sacrament of the Lord's Body and Blood, and its reality and power. Kind God, may I receive the Body of Your only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, born from the womb of the Virgin Mary, and so be received into His mystical body and numbered among His members. Loving Father, as on my earthly pilgrimage I now receive Your beloved Son under the veil of a sacrament, may I one day see him face to face in glory, who lives and reigns with You for ever. Amen.

Saint Thomas Aquinas

THANKSGIVING AFTER MASS I thank you, holy Lord, almighty Father, eternal God, who deigned to feast me, sinful and unworthy serv-ant, with the precious body and blood of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, not for any merit of mine, but only because of your merciful goodness. And I pray that this Holy Communion, far from condemning me to punishment, may bring about my pardon and sal-vation, encompassing me with the armor of faith and the shield of a good will. By it let my vices be done away, all lustful desires extinguished. May it advance me in charity, patience, humility, obedience, and every other virtue. Let it be strong defense against the wiles of all my enemies, visible and invisible, allay-ing for me every disturbance of flesh and spirit, bind-ing me firmly to you, the one true God, and bringing my last hour to a happy close. I pray, too, that it may be your pleasure to call my sinful self one day to that banquet, wonderful past all telling, where you, with your Son and the Holy Spirit, feast your saints with the vision of yourself, who are true light, the fulfill-ment of all desires, the joy that knows no ending, gladness unalloyed, and perfect bliss: through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

I could never be a RCIA sponsor. I don't know my faith? A sponsor, as a representative of the community, ac-companies a candidate on their journey to becoming practicing Catholics. They are asked to share their faith experiences, not teach theology. Sponsors invite their candidates to church activities like special prayer ser-vices, such as Stations of the Cross in Lent, as well as date night, fish frys or the bazaar. Sponsors check in with their candidates to see how they and their families are doing. They may have their candidates and family over for dinner, for example. A sponsor gives testimony and stands as a witness to the candidate’s moral character, faith and intention espe-cially before the candidate can be initiated.

THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Almighty and merciful God,

graciously keep from us all adversity,

so that, unhindered in mind and body alike,

we may pursue in freedom of heart

the things that are yours.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ,

your Son,

who lives and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever.
