TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Two centuries ago, Archbishop John Carroll worried that Americans would not appreciate the linguistic veil over our worship, and asked that the liturgy in the new United States be in English, not Latin. How did our lit-urgy come to be in Latin in the first place? In the first century, the dominant language in the regions where the church first flourished was Greek. Today in much of the world, almost everyone speaks at least a bit of English. Recently, the European Union even considered making English its official language, a curious proposal since only two English-speaking countries are members. Just as English is a unifying language today, it was hard to function in the ancient world without a smattering of Greek. Even the word “Eucharist” comes from the Greek for “thanksgiving.” For a long time, Greek was the language of worship, even in Rome. Slowly, society in the west shifted to a bias for Latin and against Greek. Latin first appeared in public prayer at the end of the sec-ond century, in the colonial outposts of North Africa. Soon, Latin became the language of culture, and so as fixed prayer forms were written, they were transmitted in Latin. From Rome and Africa, over the next four centu-ries, the new liturgical language of Latin spread north to Gaul and Britain. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

FOUR WAYS TO LEAVE A LEGACY
Did you know there are four easy ways for you to remem-ber your parish in your will? 1. A Specific Bequest—You may designate a certain amount of cash or specific assets to the parish. 2. A Residual Bequest—You may plan for the parish to receive all or a portion of your estate after other specific bequests have been distributed. 3. A Percentage Bequest—You may designate a certain percentage of the estate to go to the parish. 4. A Contingent Bequest—You may make the parish the recipient of a bequest if others named in your will are not living at the time of your death. No matter how you decide to remember your parish, a gift from your will accomplishes several key benefits.
It sends a stone message to your heirs that the Church played an important role in your life. It guarantees that your generosity to the Church will be continued even after you are gone. It provides important assistance to our parish. It may even provide tax benefits for your heirs.

BIBLE STUDY
Please join us as we begin the study of the Book of Reve-lation on August 9, 2017. We meet in the Activity Center from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on the second and fourth Wednes-days of the month. You will need a Catholic Bible, The Catechism of the Catholic Church (Vatican Edition) and the Collegeville Bible Commentary on the Book of Revelation. CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
Thank you to those of you who continue to give to the Capital Campaign. We have been collecting money for the Capital Campaign since 2009 when we did the big renovation and repairs project. Loan amounts were $1,325,228.00. The money you give to the Capital Campaign goes to paying off the loans. Balance is $933,883.99
If you need more envelopes or would like to start giving to the Capital Campaign and would like enve-lopes, please contact the Rectory at 532-6309.
ALTAR SOCIETY Recruiting new members! This great ministry is responsible for the cleanliness of the sacristy, cleanliness and proper adornment of liturgical vestments, sacred vessels, and for the arrange-ment of the flowers on the altar. We are seeking new members. If you are 18 years of age and a registered member of St. Margaret Mary and you are interested in joining this ministry, please call Mary Lou Lafuente @ 210-333-2471.
ORGANIZATIOIN USE OF ACTIVITY CENTER
Due to decline in event bookings at the Activity Center, we are asking all the or-ganizations to use the small meeting room instead of the large hall. We also ask that you limit meetings to 2 hours and do not bring in food and drinks for your meetings. This will help us reduce our expenses. This goes into effect im-mediately. Thank you. Fr. ENTHRONEMENT OF THE SACRED HEART HOME BLESSING MINISTRY
Teams of lay ministers will visit your home. Prayers are said in each room of your home with the purpose of consecrating your home and your family to the Sacred Heart of Je-sus. Through this act, you offer to the Heart of Jesus yourself and all that belongs to you.
