St. Claire Surgical Weight Loss Receives National Accreditation as a Comprehensive Center for Bariatric Surgery

We are proud to announce that St. Claire Surgical Weight Loss earned comprehensive center accreditation for bariatric surgery under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

The MBSAQIP Standards ensure that bariatric surgical patients receive a multidisciplinary program, not just a surgical procedure, which improves patient outcomes and long-term success.

“This recognition acknowledges our commitment to quality improvement and patient safety efforts for bariatric surgery patients,” said Riki Watts, MSN, RN, Director of Surgical Services.

St. Claire Surgical Weight Loss offers patients pre- and post-operative care, in addition to continued medical and support services to help patients improve

their health. Our team consists of surgeons, a program coordinator, nurses and nutritionists, who all collaborate to provide coordinated, safe and seamless patient care.

To earn the MBSAQIP designation, SCH met essential criteria for staffing, training, facility infrastructure and protocols for care. As a Comprehensive Center, the Medical Center participates in a national data registry that produces semiannual reports on the quality of its processes and outcomes, as well as identifying opportunities for continuous quality improvement.

Sister Jeannie graciously enjoyed a lifetime of helping others.Sister Jeanne Frances Cleves, SND, RN, was one of the original Sisters of Notre Dame who came to Morehead to

help open St. Claire Regional Medical Center in 1963. Sister Jeannie fell in love with the community where she spent more than 45 years truly giving her heart and hands to St. Claire and all those who walked through its doors.

Her commitment to the community was recognized in 2012 when she received the Ora L. Cline Award by the Morehead-Rowan County Chamber of Commerce. She was recognized again in 2016 when she was awarded the Difference Maker Award by Congressman Hal Rogers for her dedication to healthcare in the Morehead region.

In honor of our beloved Sister Jeannie, we have placed a memorial display in the St. Claire Café along with a remembrance book where those who knew and loved her can share thoughts and memories with her family.

A formal celebration of her life is being planned. Details will be announced soon.

In loving memory of our beloved

Sister Jeannie. Her love and generosity will continue to live in

our hearts and minds forever.
