Gospel Reflection “They all ate and were satisfied.” Why read the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves this Sunday? Here we see the mystery of our physical and spiritual realities intermingling. Too often, they can feel separate. When we go to Mass, how often we appear more ordinarily human rather than stretching toward the divine. Perhaps our experience of the Eucharist is fairly mundane. We notice when a new sacramental wine has been selected. We feel the varying textures of the host and wonder if they’ll ever bring back the one that tasted distinctly like wheat. As we shuffle up to the front and stride back to our pew, we notice the looks on people’s faces and clothes on their backs. We get distracted by the

crying child, the man blowing his nose and the mechanical sound of the air conditioner kicking in. How human we are, how earth-bound, how material! How good God is for entering into these selfsame realities. How good God is for proclaiming “the kingdom of God,” for heal[ing] those who needed to be cured,” for having mercy on a tired and hungry crowd. How many of the crowd noticed what had been done for them? Did they realize their dinner was a miracle? How often do we miss the deeper reality of the Eucharist? Even if in the moment of receiving Communion we don’t experience radical ecstasy and don’t feel any different, there is a tangible reality to cling to. Our God loves us enough to become bread for us, not only to feed us but to be fed upon by us.

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. O good Jesus, hear me. Within your wounds, hide me. Let me never be separated from you. From the malignant enemy, defend me. In the hour of my death, call me, And bid me come to you, That with your saints I may praise you Forever and ever. Amen.

In June of 2018, members of our Finance Council submitted our balanced Budget for the 2019-20 year. We projected needing $4,943 every week in order to meet our monthly expenses. If you can find it in your budget to help our budget by increasing your contributions by just a dollar or two, it would be greatly appreciated.

All are welcome to join us as we pray the Rosary after the 7:30AM Mass on Mondays,

Wednesdays and Fridays in the Church.

ST. ELIZABETH SCHOOL Farewell and Thank You … As I prepare to end my full-time career in education, I can’t think of a better place to have been for my last position. St. Elizabeth Elementary School and Parish are truly special places and I will miss them both. I have spent over 40 years in education, starting with a year in a public school in El Paso, Texas and a year of substituting in the American Military School in Bitburg, Germany. When my husband and I settled in Pittsburgh, his hometown, there were no teaching jobs so we started our family. In 1980, I began subbing at St. Pius X School in Brookline. I became full-time the next year and stayed there until 2007. At that time I became principal at Holy Spirit in Millvale and in 2010 took that position at St. Katharine Drexel in Bethel Park. In 2013 I was blessed to be offered the position at St. Elizabeth Elementary School. I was immediately welcomed by the families and the parishioners. I have loved watching the children grow, getting to know them and their talents and interacting with the parishioners and parents at our fundraisers; especially the infamous Donut Booth. I am always amazed to see the number of alumni and their parents who miraculously appear to “ice the donuts”. I will now be one of those who comes back to help out at the donut booth and I plan to continue attending the Cash Bash and Fashion Show. I won’t say goodbye because I do plan to be around for those types of events. I can’t thank you enough for all of the prayers and support I have received from you. You have my everlasting gratitude. I will have you all in my

prayers every day. God bless you all! Linda Bechtol

St. Elizabeth JV and Varsity Soccer News Congratulations to both the JV and Varsity Soccer Teams. The teams combined for a record of 19-1 and both finished as undefeated

section champions. The JV finished 2nd in the Diocese and the Varsity won the Diocesan Championship.

On behalf of the parish community of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, I wish to offer my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Linda Bechtol for her forty years of service and dedication to Catholic Education, but especially the past six years as Principal of St. Elizabeth School. Linda will be retiring at the end of June 2019. Linda has shared with us her love of children and the gift of partnering closely with the parents. Linda’s expertise as an educator has been a tremendous blessing to our school and parish. We will miss Linda

and wish her the very best in her retirement. Fr. Bob

WEEKDAY MASSES,

ADORATION, DEVOTIONS AND

THE ROSARY Our 8:30AM Masses on Tuesdays,

Thursdays and Saturdays, are held in the

Oratory, not in the main church. The Oratory is located behind the Parish

House on the lower level. Parking is

available on the lower level or folks

may park in front of the Parish House and walk down the

stairs located to the left of the Parish house. This is also where Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is

held on First Fridays and where Devotions to the

Immaculate Heart of Mary are held on First Saturdays.

The Rosary Prayer Group meets at Holy Spirit every

Tuesday at 4PM. Everyone in the Parish grouping is welcome and

encouraged to join us in this beautiful little setting for any

of these celebrations!

Please Note: On Saturday, June 29 only, the morning Mass time at Holy Spirit will be changed from 8:30AM to 8:00AM. This change is necessary so that all of our Priests may attend the Ordination of Priests that day at St. Paul Cathedral.

CATHOLIC MEN’S FELLOWSHIP The Men's Fellowship Group will meet on Saturday, July 13, from 9AM to 10AM in the Spirit Room. Focus will continue on Lesson 49, "Building Up the Body of Christ." All men in the parish grouping are invited to attend.

What is Liturgy of the Word for children?

And your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the prosperity of your children. Isaiah 54:13

In 1973, the Congregation for Divine Worship promulgated the Directory for Masses with Children. This document offers principles and guidelines for adapting the liturgy for children so that they may gradually take a more active and conscious part in the full Eucharistic assembly. The Directory attempts to respect the nature of childhood and the age and abilities of the young. The children are dismissed from the general assembly at Sunday Mass to a designated worship space for the children to participate in a Liturgy of the Word dedicated to them with the Sunday readings and a reflection on the scriptures geared to their learning level. At the conclusion of the Liturgy of the Word the children return to the main assembly for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

On October 13, 1949, Pope Pius XII formally named Our Lady of Ghisallo as the patroness of cyclists. Medieval legend says that Count Ghisallo was travelling near the village of Magréglio when he was attacked by highway bandits. Spotting an image of the Virgin Mary in a roadside shrine, he broke away from his attackers and ran to it. There he took refuge, pled for Our

Lady’s protection – and was miraculously saved from the robbers. As the story spread, the Madonna del Ghisallo became known as patroness of local travelers. A chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Ghisallo is located at the top of a steep hill in the Lake Como region of Italy. Cyclists often stop to rest and pray there. An eternal flame burns at the chapel in memory of those cyclists who have died.” Our Lady pray for us and all who invoke thy aid.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS by Susan Vogt “Give them some food.” (Luke 9:13)

As spouses, we give our bodies to each other in joy and share each other’s pain when sickness strikes. Taking care of each other’s body is part of being married. Sometimes this means meeting physical needs like food, or times when it’s emotional comfort. Feed each other today. PARENTING POINTERS by Susan Vogt The Summer Solstice was on June 21, which means our days are longer. Use the daylight to do some outdoor family activities together—a hike, a bike ride, a swim … A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE by Bud Ozar In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches that we will find abundance by sharing the little we have. No mater how little time, money or food we have, it is enough to share.
