SOCIETYOF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL The St. Edward Conference is again partici-pating in "Toys for Tots." The U.S. MarineCorps Reserve founded the program inLos Angeles in 1947 to provide toys tochildren disadvantaged as a result of World

War II. Since then, more than 200 million underprivi-leged children have received toys at Christmas thanksto the Marines. In Orange County, the program is managed by theSVDP Council. Complemented by toys brought by ourgenerous St. Edward students and parishioners, we'reable to brighten the lives of many local kids.

TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE--STILL STRONGDespite the rising figures for cohabitation, divorce, andsingle parent child rearing, a new study by the PewResearch Center on how Americans view marriageand family shows only five percent of those under 30don't plan on getting married. With the marginallymisleading title of "The Decline of Marriage and Rise ofNew Families" the study, based on census data and anew telephone poll of 2,691 adults conducted betweenOctober 1 and 21, found that traditional marriage asthe most viable basis of society is in no danger of dis-

    appearing.
