Stewardship Reflection

St. Faustina Parish is a community of Roman Catholics Inspired by the Holy Spirit called to reflect God’s Divine Mercy,

to foster spiritual growth, and attend to the temporal and spiritual needs of all God’s people.

Today’s readings offer beautiful illustrations of two of the “Four Pillars of Parish Stewardship” — hospitality and service — and the joy that a life lived for others can bring. Our second reading, from the letter of St. James, teaches that all are equally worthy of our hospitality. We must welcome and serve everyone who walks through our church’s doors, extend-ing warmth and a dignified greeting to all. The person who wan-ders in late to Mass, who is not dressed to our personal stand-ards, may be just the person who is most in need of Christ’s love. Sometimes we can offer that love simply with a smile and offer to come and sit next to us in “our” pew. The Gospel reading from Mark demonstrates the connection between hospitality and service. In this passage we find Jesus on the go, and “people brought to Him a deaf man who had a speech impediment and begged Him to lay His hand on him.” These people had already heard the Good News that Jesus was preaching. In response, they reached out to a man who literally could not hear and brought him close to Jesus so that he could receive the Good News, too. This is true service and hospitality at its finest. Jesus responds immediately with a miraculous healing. He blessed those whose service and hospitality had made this en-counter possible, confirming their faith to such an extent that they could not stop themselves from proclaiming the wonder they had witnessed. This week, let’s challenge ourselves to step out of our comfort zone to reach out to someone who needs to hear the Good News of Jesus. We may just find ourselves astonished at what miracles He accomplishes!

Father Ramon’s

Message

They were exceedingly astonished and they said, “He has done all things well. He makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.” (Mk 7:37) Jesus used his touch, a bit of spit and praise to God in order to heal a deaf mute. Tangible signs which hint at how intimate a relationship the ultimate healer wants from us. When was the last time you've reached out with consolation and encourage-ment to a frightened person? When have you been a healer? Have you brought someone closer to Christ for healing? Our parish believes in the lasting effects of being a welcoming com-munity - someone new in the community always ends up with a dinner or lunch invitation. Bringing people together brings heal-ing and wholeness to a community. The letter of James urges everyone to 'show no partiality' when adhering to the faith in Jesus Christ. The following sectors are somewhat overlooked and underserved in our faith community: the homeless, youth, aged, or disabled. So what ongoing ser-vices exist in our parish family? May our upcoming Ministries' Fair be a fruitful experience of welcoming and empowering parishioners and their talents to better enhance our worship services and outreach to the poor and needy. Also by now you may have already received in the bulletin a shortened version of our parish financial report. I thank Tom Madden and the financial committee of our parish who, in col-laboration with Elaine Goth, our accountant and myself, have approved a finance report and budget presentation for our dear parish. There is a dedicated follow-up evening of questions and answers regarding parish finances and resources, a 'town hall forum' style of gathering, at 7pm on Wednesday, September 26th, in the church. So please mark your calendars for this important evening. I would like to thank those of you who have participated in the First Friday Holy Hours of Adoration, Prayer and Atonement on behalf of all victims of sexual crimes in the church and in the society. Again, there is an open invitation to everyone from 8:30am till 5:00pm every first Friday of the month to drop in to the church and experience an hour or more of silent adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. Our quest for holiness finds fulfillment through a genuine and devout practice of the faith coupled with a keen awareness of the need for outreach to all the marginalized in ministry. May this beautiful month bring more blessings to you and yours! My brothers and sisters, show no partiality as you adhere to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. (Jas 2:1)

THE 2019 MASS INTENTION BOOK IS NOW OPEN FOR SCHEDULING—Reminder of the new procedures we had to install back in March of 2017 in order to be fair to all. Be-cause we have grown somewhat, Parishioners/

requesters may offer NO MORE than 3 Masses per month. Re-questers are only permitted ONE intention per month on the WEEKEND, and 2 intentions per month on weekdays. Masses must be paid for at time they are put in the book. If someone calls to “hold a date”, there is no guarantee it will be held for more than 5 business days. Customary offering of $10.00 per intention must be in hands of parish office to finalize scheduling. Only one intention per Mass unless from same family (no more than 3 names) and approved by Pastor. Again, to be fair to all, this is done on a first come/first serve basis. Preferred manner of scheduling is to come to parish office. NO PRIVATE INTEN-TIONS will be scheduled on Christmas, Easter, Mother’s & Fa-ther’s Day, All Souls day, Thanksgiving Day, Holy Thursday and any others blocked off by Pastor. Due to Pastor’s Obligation to offer Mass for the Parishioners weekly, there will be one week-end Mass set aside for that on a rotating basis.
