Saint Maria Faus�na was born in a village in Poland on August 25, 1905. Her birth name was Helena Kowalska. Her family was poor but prayerful. As a child Helena loved to a'end Mass. She was kind to others and very helpful. She loved Jesus and she wanted to be a saint. ! !As Helena grew older, she felt God calling her to become a nun. She tried to ignore the call because her parents did not want her to do this. Jesus waited pa�ently. One evening, while at a dance, Helena saw an astonishing sight. Jesus appeared to her covered in wounds and very sad. He asked her, “How long will you put Me off?” Helena ran to a nearby cathedral to pray. She threw herself before the tabernacle and said, “Oh my Jesus, forgive me for neglec�ng You! Please tell me what You want me to do!” Jesus responded, “Go at once to Warsaw [Poland]; you will enter a convent there.” The next morning Helena le7 her home and took a train to Warsaw. Over �me she looked for a convent but was turned away again and again. Finally she was welcomed by the Congrega�on of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy. There she became Sister Maria Faus�na, a bride of Christ. While in the convent Sister Faus�na had many opportuni�es to show mercy to others. Our Lord appeared to her many �mes because He was pleased with her compassion and obedience. !!On February 22, 1931, a7er returning from prayer, something amazing happened to Sister Faus�na. She received a profound vision that would forever change her life and the lives of many. Jesus appeared to her wearing a dazzling white robe. One hand was raised in blessing and the other was touching His garment at the breast. Two large rays of light, one red the other pale white, were coming from His heart. ! !A7er a while Jesus said, “Paint an image according to the pa'ern you see, with the signature, “Jesus, I trust in You.” Jesus promised, “Anyone who venerates this image will someday join me in heaven. I desire that there be a Feast of Mercy. I want this image to be solemnly blessed on the first Sunday a7er Easter; that Sunday is to be the Feast of Mercy.” This was the start of an important mission for St. Faus�na. ! !!Sister Faus�na’s spiritual director asked an ar�st to paint the image. It was hard to capture the beauty of Jesus. Since Sister Faus�na received the wonderful grace of seeing Jesus many �mes during her life, her spiritual director asked her to keep a record in a diary. !!Jesus taught Sister Faus�na the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, a special prayer using rosary beads. He told her, “Whoever recites this prayer and marks the hour of My death in even the smallest way will receive more graces than his soul could ever need.” Sister Faus�na died on October 5, 1938. !!!On April 30, 2000, Sister Faus�na, was canonized, or proclaimed a saint, by Pope John Paul II. He also established the Second Sunday of Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday, just as Jesus had requested. Saint Faus�na is known as the Missionary of Divine Mercy. !
Santa María Faus�na nació en un pueblo de Polonia el 25 de agosto de 1905. Su nombre de nacimiento era Helena Kowalska. Su familia era pobre pero orante. Cuando era niña, a Helena le encantaba asis�r a misa. Era amable con los demás y muy ú�l. Amaba a Jesús y quería ser santa.!!A medida que Helena crecía, sin�ó que Dios la llamaba para conver�rse en monja. Intentó ignorar la llamada porque sus padres no querían que ella hiciera esto. Jesús esperó pacientemente. Una noche, mientras bailaba, Helena vio un espectáculo asombroso. Jesús se le apareció cubierto de heridas y muy triste. Él le preguntó a ella: "¿Cuánto �empo me dejarás?" Helena corrió a una catedral cercana para orar. Se arrojó ante el tabernáculo y dijo: “¡Oh, Jesús mío, perdóname
por descuidarte! ¡Por favor, dime lo que quieres que haga! "Jesús respondió:" Vete de inmediato a Varsovia [Polonia]; allí entrarás en un convento. A la mañana siguiente, Helena salió de su casa y tomó un tren a Varsovia. Con el �empo buscó un convento, pero fue rechazada una y otra vez. Finalmente fue recibida por la Congregación de las Hermanas de Nuestra Señora de la Merced. Allí se convir�ó en la hermana María Faus�na, una novia de Cristo. Mientras estaba en el convento, la hermana Faus�na tuvo muchas oportunidades de mostrar misericordia a los demás. Nuestro Señor se le apareció muchas veces porque estaba complacido con su compasión y obediencia.!!El 22 de febrero de 1931, después de regresar de la oración, algo sorprendente le sucedió a la hermana Faus�na. Ella recibió una visión profunda que cambiaría para siempre su vida y la de muchos. Jesús se le apareció con una deslumbrante túnica blanca. Una mano fue levantada en bendición y la otra tocaba su ropa en el pecho. Dos grandes rayos de luz, uno rojo y otro blanco pálido, venían de su corazón. ! !!!Después de un rato, Jesús dijo: “Pinta una imagen de acuerdo con el patrón que ves, con la firma:“ Jesús, conRo en � ”. Jesús prome�ó:“ Cualquiera que venere esta imagen algún día se unirá a mí en el cielo. Deseo que haya una fiesta de la misericordia. Quiero que esta imagen sea bendecida solemnemente el primer domingo después de la Pascua; ese domingo será la fiesta de la misericordia ”. Este fue el comienzo de una importante misión para Santa Faus�na.!!La directora espiritual de la hermana Faus�na le pidió a un ar�sta que pintara la imagen. Fue diRcil capturar la belleza de Jesús. Como la hermana Faus�na recibió la maravillosa gracia de ver a Jesús muchas veces durante su vida, su director espiritual le pidió que llevara un registro en un diario. ! !!!Jesús enseñó a la hermana Faus�na la Coronilla de la Divina Misericordia, una oración especial con rosarios. Él le dijo a ella: "Quienquiera que recite esta oración y marque la hora de mi muerte, incluso de la manera más pequeña, recibirá más gracias de las que su alma podría necesitar". La hermana Faus�na murió el 5 de octubre de 1938. ! !!!El 30 de abril de 2000, la hermana Faus�na fue canonizada o proclamada santa por el Papa Juan Pablo II. También estableció el Segundo domingo de Pascua como el domingo de la Divina Misericordia, tal como Jesús lo había solicitado. Santa Faus�na es conocida como la Misionera de la Divina Misericordia.!
