The Ascension of the Lord June 1, 2014

He was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight.

— Acts 1:9

Candle Room Candles in our Catholic Christian tradition evoke lots of fond memories, lots of special occasions and events. We have candle light processions, candle light services, midnight masses with candle lights and especially candles lit in memory of our dear departed and devotional candle lights for various intentions. We have also candle lit dinners!

Lighting a candle is something very special. It somehow reminds the presence of the divine. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” (John 8:12) That is why we have candles lit for Holy Masses and other religious services. It reminds us of the presence of the light of the world in our midst.

Saint Felicitas Church has had a candle room from the beginning of the Church. As everything changes and needs upgrading and renovation, we are in the process of introducing electric candles in the candle room. Many churches in the diocese have already transitioned to electric candles as it is highly encouraged by the insurance company.

I am sure some people would really miss the ritual of lighting the candle and the real fire. I pray that they too will be able to adjust to the change gracefully and in a loving manner.

Opportunity for donation

The total expense for the candle room is about $29,000. If anybody would like to donate the entire amount we will dedicate the candle room to the family or persons who have made the donation.

Below are sets of candles on stands or as wall hangers that families can donate in memory of their loved ones:

1. Candles around the statue of Sacred Heart - $3500 2. Candles before Our Lady of Guadalupe - $7000 3. Candles near the icon of St. Jude/St. Michael -$7000 4. Candles near the crucifix - $2300 5. Candles near the Statue of our Lady of Fatima - $2300 6. Candles near Saint Anthony’s statue - $2300 8. Candles near the Black Nazarene - $2300 9. Candles near the Blessed Virgin (Vietnamese) - $2300

May it help us to grow in our devotion and prayer life. Thank you for your generosity.

Father Augustine

Happy Feast of the Ascension of our Lord! The school had a wonderful end of the year picnic on Friday led by Ms. King and our 8th graders. Each year our students gather for the day at Manor Park. They rotate through 9 relay race stations that are designed and led by our 8th graders and end with a BBQ lunch. It’s great exercise, team building, and bonding for our students before we leave for the summer!

It is with bittersweet feelings that I announce that after 14 years of service, our beloved office secretary Toni Whitsitt will be moving on from our school. Toni Whitsitt has been offered a tremendous opportunity to further her career and utilize her amazingly creative gifts. Toni is an asset to our school and will be greatly missed! Please join me in congratulating Toni and keep her in your prayers as she begins a new and exciting chapter in her life.

We will be interviewing for Mrs. Whitsitt’s position. Please contact the school office or email me ([email protected]) if you are interested.

Abundant Easter Blessings!

-Mrs. Meghan Jorgensen

— Copyright © J.
