Saint Gabriel the Archangel Saddle River
Our liturgical year begins with the season of Advent; a time of hopeful expectation of the coming of the Lord. On the First Sunday of Advent we look forward to the end of time when we will awaken to the dawn of Christ’s new day. Today we hear Isaiah speak of a day when God’s power will have brought universal peace and God’s Word will have instructed all people, radiating God’s “light” or teachings into all of human society. Only when humanity walks “in the light of the Lord,” when all people desire to be instructed “in [God’s] ways,” will the world be set aright and our deepest longings fulfilled. The reading from Romans calls us to “awake from sleep” for this final “day is at hand.” Together this Sunday’s scriptures proclaim our Christian faith that Jesus is the One who will finally come to fulfill God’s plan of salvation. Peace, Fr. Frank

SJA GIVES BACK
While reflecting on the many blessings we have re-ceived in our lives, the SJA community helped others this Thanksgiving season. Each class donated food items that were made into baskets which were distrib-uted to needy families of St. John the Baptist, St. An-drew’s and St. Rose of Lima in Newark. At our Thanksgiving prayer service, the students of-fered monetary contributions to Several Source Shel-ters, an organization that assists homeless women, young mothers and babies and other families in need.
