Wine Tasting Education Event – Tax Deductibility
For those of you who donated to the Wine Tasting Education Event in February, the average cost per person to stage the event was $23.33. If you gave more than that amount per person as your free-will offering, you can deduct the difference as a charitable tax deduction. Amounts do-nated will not be included in your annual giving statement. This article and your canceled check (if paid by check) are the only documents you have for tax documentation.
The average cost per person for the July 2016 Wine Tasting Event was $16.30.
If you have any questions about the tax deductibility of your free-will offering, please contact the
Treasurer (Jim D).
Rubber Ducks Baseball Games

ECW continued
The ECW Book of Remembrance is a way to honor or me-morialize a person for her or his contribution to the church. There is a form to be filled out to recommend someone. The name is then inscribed into the large book which is kept in the diocese and all four volumes are displayed at the annual ECW meeting. If anyone would like to add a name to be commemorated please see me for the form. For 2016 the names of Mrs. Pauline Neilsen and Mrs. Marianne Morgan will be inscribed. Others in the past have been Betty Graham, Albert’s mother, and Rev. Gay Jennings for their contributions to the wider church. Others were Mike Griffith, Mike Richmond and Pat Shutts.
Thank you, Kathleen Flarry
deacon’s reflections
In late March, a business trip took me to Atlanta. On our last day, with time before needing to be at the airport, I took advantage of the 79º weather to sight see. With luggage in tow, I went up and down Peachtree-this and Peachtree-that, among bicyclists, joggers and a school group – all enjoying the beautiful day. One surprise was discovering the Margaret Mitchell House, now a museum to the author of Gone With the Wind. I took a few photos for mom; as I crossed the street a man called out – “I’m mad at you.” He was older, heavy set, sitting on a low stone wall, wearing a red sweat suit. I walked up and asked why he was mad. “You didn’t come back to see me”, he said. I explained that I was heading to the airport but he didn’t understand. Something inside told me to sit down, so I plopped down on the low wall with him. “What’s your name”, I asked. “Big Al”, he said and fist-bumped me. “I’m Anne, how are you doing?” He explained something about a court case and expect-ing a huge settlement, but till then could I help him find a place to stay? He didn’t grasp my being from Ohio so I gave him a few dollars and we continued to talk. Mental illness was evident but he was kind; when I got up to catch the train, he asked me to come back tomorrow.
At Easter we say, Alleluia, Christ is risen. We believe we meet the risen Christ in others – family, friends and people on the street. Maybe we also meet the risen Jesus in our hearts, in a little voice that says, change your way, take a detour, talk with this member of my family. If you think about it, we probably meet the risen Jesus many times each day. When we least expect it.

Dump and Bake Meatball Casserole
Ingredients (4-6 servings)
1 (16 ounce) package uncooked rotini pasta
1 (25 ounce) jar marinara sauce
3 cups water
1 (14 ounce) package fully-cooked miniature (cocktail-size) meatballs (if using frozen meatballs, make sure that they are completely thawed before using)
2 cups shredded mozzarella (or Italian blend) cheese
Optional: Parmesan cheese and fresh chopped herbs (such as basil, oregano, and parsley) for garnish
Directions
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
In a large baking dish, stir together uncooked pasta, marinara sauce, water, and meatballs. Cover tight-ly with aluminum foil and bake for 35 minutes.
Uncover; stir. At this point you should check the pasta to make sure that it is al dente (firm but just about finished cooking). If it’s still too hard, cover the dish and return to the oven until pasta is al dente. Then move on to the next step.
Sprinkle mozzarella over the top and bake uncovered for 5-10 more minutes (or until cheese is melted and pasta is tender).
