2018-2019 ANNUAL REPORT

Dear Families & Friends of St. Helen,

Here we are at the conclusion of another great year at St.

Helen Catholic School. As we look over the last 17 years it is

amazing how far we have come. On behalf of the Faculty and

Staff I would like to thank all of our awesome supporters:

our students, families, alumni, School Advisory Board, PTO,

St. Helen parishioners, and friends. Thank you all for the

amazing support you give St. Helen Catholic School. It is a

true blessing to be part of a community that is focused on

our most precious gift, our children. May the Lord bless

each of you, and keep you ever in His grace.

Mary Kay Sims Principal

Assessment of Catechesis and Religion (ACRE)

The ACRE test is administered to students nationwide in Grades Five and Eight. SHCS students scored above

the national average.

2018 Iowa Assessments (IA)

Based on the national average, all classes scored above the 50th percentile. Three of our eight classes scored

above the 75th percentile.

DUKE University Talent Identification Program

Seven of our 7th Grade students qualified for the Duke University Talent Identification Program. To qualify

for this honor, students must score at or above the 95 percentile on an accepted subtest or total battery/

composite of a grade-level standardized achievements test, aptitude test, or mental ability test. Two of those

students scored high enough to be recognized at the state level!

Private School Interscholastic Association

Students participated in 50 P.S.IA. events this year at District Competition. Of those, 32 students placed and

13 students advanced to the state competition in Fort Worth. 5 of those competing at state placed!

Austin DEEP Program

Nineteen of our Third, Fourth and Fifth Graders qualified for the Austin DEEP Program. To qualify, a student

must achieve 95% on the IA or higher in two or more major subject areas. The Austin DEEP Program

emphasizes higher-order cognitive activities utilizing the multiple intelligences.

Athletics

SHCS is a member of the Austin Christian Athletics Association (ACAA). Our students in grades 5 through 8

compete in boys’ Flag Football, girls’ Volleyball, boys’ and girls’ Basketball and Track, and co-ed Soccer. This

year we walked away with championships in 5/6 Girls Basketball, 6th Grade Co-Ed Soccer , 7/8 Co-Ed Soccer

and 7/8 Flag Football!

Awards, Honors, Accomplishments and Service

St. Helen students in Grades 3-8 volunteered a total of 1,580.5 service hours this year!

ONE GOAL OF ST. HELEN CATHOLIC SCHOOL is to help students learn to live our Catholic calling to serve those in

need and to help familiarize them with the many ways they can practice serving our school, parish, local community, and

the world.

Four of our 8th graders were recognized at the Diocesan Service and Leadership Mass.

These students collectively earned a total of 696.75 hours of service!
