New Year Message 2019
Dear brothers and sisters, greetings and happy New Year! The experiences of life have taught us that a New Year does not give us a clean slate, but gives us a fresh start with eyes set on a new horizon. Since we are participants in the mystery of the divine life her-alded in the Incarnation event, we can enter the New Year with a refreshed vision of faith, a renewed com-mitment to Christ and a fervent belief that God is with us always.
Remember, the joy of the Christmas season is that God pitched his tent and dwells among us. So, if God is with us, the end of one calendar year and the begin-ning of another does not change God’s abiding pres-ence and love for us. God is ever faithful and un-changeable, even though the circumstances of life and seasons of the calendar year do really change. As powerful as is the fact of sin and evil; there is more powerful presence among us as the Son of God be-came flesh and blood to dwell among us.
Friends, with the dawn of the year 2019, all of us en-dowed with grace have a journey to make. Jesus Christ becomes a permanent companion on this life journey. We are no longer alone in our journey through the dessert. Begin to walk with Jesus, make him the closest companion of your life. Make his Gos-pel, his Church, his Sacraments a vital part of your life. You will find gradually coming to life again within yourself a new man, a new woman, undeterred for the mission to make disciples of all nations.
As Church, let the good news of the Incarnation reso-nate in our hearts and fill us with potent passion and joy to bring Christ to the world in which we live. Trusting in the words of the angel, “be not afraid,” let us say a resounding YES to God this 2019. Yes, to the divine life within us, yes to the mission of Christ, the Church and our St Jerome church to make disciples. And we will be willing to risk our life as the gospel teaches.
I enjoin you all therefore, to enter this New Year with a renewed sense of joy and trust in the Lord Jesus. In the same spirit, let us reassure one another that our love for them “will be like wine, it will get more re-fined and more precious with time.” This is the true essence of our being in God.
With love in Christ Jesus,
Fr. James Ekeocha
