We are fortunate in the St. Johns County School District to have a history of student success. We nurture and continue this success with an attitude of “children fi rst.” With the guidance of a dedicated and caring group of teachers, staff and administrators, our students walk along a recognized path of achievement. St. Johns County retains the designation as a high-performing school dis-

trict by the Florida Department of Education. We continue our work, confi dent that our students are equipped with 21st century skills to garner success in an ever-expanding society.

As we experience unprecedented growth in St. Johns County, the importance of maintaining a quality educational environment has remained a priority. Thanks to the support of local voters, the half-cent sales surtax referendum was passed, which allows our school district to help address the rapid growth of the county and surrounding areas. These funds will permit us to enhance the educational experience of our students by providing funding for new school construction, school expansions, critical maintenance projects, technology upgrades and safety and security improvements.

Construction will begin soon on an elementary facility in the World Golf Village area. Two new K-8 facilities to serve students in the northern areas of the county are also being planned. We are pleased to be able to provide our students with permanent facilities in which to learn and grow. Schools, as we know, provide a sense of community for students, parents, business partners and stakeholders, all of whom work together to make our schools great.

I am proud of the efforts we have made to recruit the highest quality instruc-tional staff to support the great instruction and learning taking place in our county. Since February of 2016, our district has participated in more than 20 teacher recruitment events, with the goal of hiring those who focus on student growth and achievement as the number one priority. The growth and development of the individual child remains at the core of why we do what we do each and every day. I am blessed and honored to be part of such an amazing team.

Sincerely,

Joseph G. Joyner, Ed.D.Superintendent of SchoolsJoJoJooooJoooJoJoJooJooooJooseph G. Joyner, EdEEEdEEEEdEdEdEEEEdEdEdEEEdEEEEd.D.S S

Children brought sandwiches and ate them in a classroom where a big pot of soup was prepared daily. In the 1930s the children raised some of the vegetables for the soup in a garden out-side. Electricity came to Mill Creek in 1948.Th e current building was opened for the 1991-1992 school year and a 10-classroom wing was added in 2000. For the

As the little country school, many of our parents and grandparents were also students at Mill Creek.Mill Creek is home of the “Mustangs” and the school’s motto, "learning for all" is representative in the services and education provides that is not packaged in a one size fi ts all box.

Wards Creek Elementary is situated in a long-time rural area of St. Johns County; the plot of land that would be-come Wards Creek was origi-

nally a fi eld surrounded by farms. Th en, as the population exploded in the early 2000s, another school was needed to relieve Mill Creek Elementary.

Th e Wards were a local family that had been in the area for generations and lived along a creek near the school. Th e stu-dents then chose "Warriors" as the school mascot with black and gold as the school colors. Th e school is built around an architectural concept of four "houses" surrounded by a common areas. In 2010 an ad-ditional wing was completed.Wards Creek sponsors Odys-

Parent Home Access CenterThe St. Johns County School District (SJCSD) offers parents a tool to monitor their child’s academic progress. The Home Access Center (HAC) is a web-based application that is part of the Student Information system, eSchoolPlus. The HAC portal is now available to registered parents and/or guardians.

The HAC portal provides parents and students with a daily summary page of student information including schedule and attendance, discipline information, class work, test scores, grades and course requests. It also allows students to view their own records in the system to help keep them informed and actively participating in their progress.

All schools in grades 3-12 will be participating in HAC starting this year (exceptions may apply to charter and DJJ schools). HAC access for kindergarten through second grade students is currently being piloted at several elementary schools.

Parents who had access to Parent Assistant in the past will be able to use the same Login and Password information to access the HAC portal. The previous parent tool, Parent Assistant, is no longer available. Parents who do not have access to a HAC account must fi rst visit their child’s school to complete an email verifi cation form and show a positive form of identifi cation. For many schools and parents, this can be accomplished during the upcoming Open House at their child’s school. Once parents have completed the email verifi cation form at their school, they can register for a HAC account online.

For additional information on the HAC portal access the district’s website at www.stjohns.k12.fl .us/hac.
