“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under Heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1

As I reflect upon the past twenty-three years of being a parishioner of St. Joseph Parish, I realize more than ever what a blessing and honor it is to serve here. The parishioners are dear family members to my family and me. Love, kindness, and hope are never lacking. My family and I found our way to St. Joseph’s Parish when our son, Brett, began preschool and continued through eighth grade, graduating in 2003. During these years, I was employed at St. Joseph School as an aide and a substitute teacher. These experiences introduced me to fund-raising. I became a Eucharistic Minister, a Care Minister at Elmhurst Hospital, and a religious education teacher. In time, I began a prayer group, started the Cursillio Movement, and intro-duced Marriage Encounter weekends in our parish. I gave various talks on my personal experi-

ences regarding my spiritual journey, here at St. Joseph’s, at St. Isidore’s, at the Diocese of Joliet, and other surrounding parishes. I’m always grateful for the opportunity to give God glory for his abundant blessings. Addison School District 4 has employed me for the past eight years. Presently, I work in Special Education Resource with bilingual students; many of whom are parishioners. I became a member of the Council of Catholic Women (CCW) years ago, renewing involvement over the past few years. I truly love and appreciate my sisters in Christ who tirelessly give so much in serving our parish. From Doughnut Sundays to our outdoor Christmas Nativity set, these are the results of their many good works. As a member I continue to decorate the show-case window and bulletin board. I collect rose petals for the Carmelite Sister of Des Plaines for their handmade rosaries for which they are thankful and offer their prayers for our parish. Most recently, my husband and I were a part of a small committee, commissioned by Fr. Luis, to raise funds for a new roof for our church. We were successful in raising $85,000 because of the generosity and devotion of our caring parishioners. We sold hundreds of tamales over many weekends. It was a positive and insightful experience and we were able to meet many new parishioners. Being voted “Woman of the Year” is deeply touching and most appreciated and came in God’s perfect timing. The women of St. Joseph’s Parish are so giving and faithful that I share this joy with all of you. We truly accomplish all things through God’s grace and with the helping hands of one another. Thank you for all your encouragement, perseverance, and friendship. May God continue to bless us, guide us, and call us to serve Him in His perfect time. Love and Prayers, Joanne M. Bezad O.C.D.S.
